no
thank you
you are full of you know what...
what does it mean?
slang?

@user4550 It means "You are full of shit." The "you know what" is a euphemism for shit.

oh
i see
thanks

@Robusto so his day is holy.
@HotLicks so... you just publicly instructed the mods to delete as pointless noise any and every post of yours that includes words such as "of course", "clearly" or "obviously". — RegDwigнt ♦ 29 secs ago

@RegDwigнt So?

@Robusto no, not so. Completely differently.
Pay attention!
Get with the noobgram.

Ich will nicht aufpassen.

Haha.
That is a double-entendre.
"Aufpassen" is that form of contraception where you, well, "pay attention".
Pulling out.

Hah, I did not know that.
Obviously I didn't frequent the same brothels you do.

2:45 PM
You did, just forty years earlier.

Uh, not so many. Not forty.

That was the pun. Pun intended. Did you see what I did there?

I see what everyone does everywhere. I am the pun monitor.

So you're the one to handle punitive damages.

May 10 '12 at 21:34, by Robusto
Very punitive.
I saw what you did there, too.

2:51 PM
Did you saw it in half or in smaller chunks?

I'm see-sawing back and forth on that.

Very savvy of you.

More salvey than savvy.

Mo resolvey?

Prolly not available in your poor country.

2:53 PM
@Robusto it is! That was the one video it recently bought.
But I must be "back" to "work".
Lators.

3:20 PM
Today, Kris actually liked my answer.

no telling what Kris will do

My best friend's final exam is next week. After that, he will get his PhD and return for good.
I will ask for his advice on that matter.

I guess you're looking forward to seeing him

Yes, I have not seen him for a few years. He has a wife and two kids here. I don't like to see his parents though.
I know what Maria looks like now, lol.

Are they unpleasant in some way?

3:26 PM
Well, maybe it is just me, but sometimes I think they look down on me.

My university "friends" have all abandoned me.
Many people probably think of me as a douchebag.

maybe.

If I try to get 10 points each day in Nov and Dec, I can reach 2000 this year, lol.

sounds like a a good target to reach for
but don't worry what people who are not in your life are thinking about you.

3:45 PM
I have worries, which are as many as the moments of the day.
Does this work?

"Work" is kind of a vague term. As is "moments".

a metaphor, you see.
like...a day has many moments
so I have that many worries!!
thats the import.
thereof

I know what you're trying to say. The question is whether you're actually saying it.

what do you mean?
the import is not there?

The export is not there.

3:53 PM
,,,,
im stumped.
i need your expatiation

Look, you can say whatever you want. Don't look for my approval. I would write something different.

oh...i see
thank you

Q: Why is "did" italicized for emphasis in "Where did you come from?"

username901345 Where did you come from? What is the nuance of this emphasis? I could understand it if the emphasis were on where.

Someone just downvoted all the answers there, LOL.

@Robusto You know what?

@JasperLoy looks like that got systematically invalidated

3:57 PM
@MattЭллен Looks like the user changed his mind.

or that

I don't think the system reverses these things automatically.

probably not

thats my gem

@Mitch Yes. I do.

4:08 PM
know what?

Q: Semicolon or period in the following?

Ezra PounditHere are two instances in a formal paper I submitted where my professor told me my semicolon usage is incorrect. (For the record, he told me this as he was reading it for the first time. He said most students use semicolons incorrectly and to avoid them altogether. I'm not .)

This has an upvote when there is no question in the question? LOL.

@RegDwigнt Have the appropriate amount of fun:

4:57 PM
@Robusto Shit.
@user4550 What 'what'?
I pointed it at P = NP.
It gave N=1.

A: Why are reveries sometimes called "brown" studies?

B.W.CullenPerhaps the term "brown" refers to the tendency of people to do their thinking in the can? (just joking)

Not An Answer.

6:19 PM
Just joking, right.

@Cerberus like looking in a mirror. A broken mirror.

Simchona is still a mod? I thought if you didn't show up for three months you lost your badge.

I'm not sure how long the period is. maybe six months?

8:00 PM
It's six months.
So November 11 is when she'll be demoted, provided she does not return between now and then.

How are you doing these days, Matt?

I'm doing fine, thanks, @Mahnax
How are you?

I'm well enough. I've moved out, started uni, things are good.

So I've read, on occasion :D glad to hear you're enjoying uni life
what is your degree on?

8:03 PM
Bachelor of Science Honours in Chemistry :D

cool! I work with some chemists. they're a good bunch

Glad to hear it! I'm hoping to go to grad school. I've met a bunch of people in grad school or academia so far and it sounds great to me.

to do a doctorate?

Yeah.

think it is alpha now if someone wants to throw some OCD at it. /cc @AndrewLeach

8:11 PM
@Mahnax what kind of area are you thinking of?

@MattЭллен Not sure yet. I haven't had enough experience with the various sub-fields in chemistry to make any sort of decision. If I had to pick today, though, I'd say organic chem.

nice.
done anything with NMR yet?

Not really, just a tiny bit.
I likely won't get into that until second or third year.

fair enough. All I know is that we're trying to break into academia with a 60MHz spectrometer
oh, and I know the difference between trimethylsilane and ethylcrotonate :D (visually, from spectra)

That's really cool!

8:18 PM
chemistry is what pays the bills!
well, sort of

With any luck, chem will pay my bills someday too.

Maybe I'll come to the UK and work on your 60MHz spectrometer if getting tenure doesn't work out ;)

yeah! sounds like a plan. or even if it does! our head of applications was a professor at ... York, maybe.
somewhere
somewhere up north

Cool!
BTW, I know you have a fairly unique musical taste—ever heard of a band called Mccafferty?

8:22 PM
I have not. What are they like?

The genre is called dancepunk, but for me the best descriptor is acoustic punk. One of those bands that has a singer who's not particularly talented that sounds good anyway.

Yeah, I think I've found some of their stuff.
pretty nice
Found a song called "Skeleton bones"

One of my favourites, actually.

Similar feel to An Horse
but more punky

An Horse? Hmm, never heard of them. Mccafferty reminds me of the Front Bottoms though.

8:29 PM
lol I like the name

Haha, me too. They're pretty good, they have fun.
A good song by them is Be Nice To Me, if you want a sample.

Oh thanks! I'm currently listening to "Twin Size Mattress"
"Little Lungs" is a good An Horse track

Oh, that one's very popular too. That one got me interested in the band.
I'm twelve seconds into "Little Lungs" and I already love it.

Aw man, this is great. Thanks!

8:38 PM
no worries! Thanks for your recommendations.
I've been looking for something new.

Happy to help! Hopefully you enjoy.

So far, yes! :D

Awesome!

I would pay for McCafferty, but I can't see anything but the preorder on bandcamp.

Their old stuff can only be obtained for free now, actually.

8:49 PM
cool. how do I do that?

I found a link to someone's Google Drive that had all of it. Let me see if I can find it.
The lead singer took it all down because he's trying to become a teacher and the lyrical content is really not so becoming.
There it is.

@Mahnax ah :D

@MattЭллен Yeah. I'm not sure why he's decided to release this new EP though.
The preorder.

the minds of artists, eh? ;)
apparently I can give them money for BeachBoy. I will endeavour to do that

@Robusto you wrote it?

8:55 PM
@MattЭллен Where?

not necessarily directly to them, but close as I can get :D

Oh, great!
Kate from An Horse reminds me of Tegan and Sara, in a strange way.

@JohanLarsson OK. I've unzipped it all into Dropbox to have a look at. There's an awful lot. What would you like me to do?

yeah, I can see that

@AndrewLeach You don't have VS?

9:04 PM
It's been good catching up, @Mahnax but it's time for me to sleep. CU!

@MattЭллен Adios!

@JohanLarsson Well my laptop does identify a .sln file as a Visual Studio Solution, but doesn't appear to know what to do with it. I do have VB.

It is C# and the sln is for VS 2013.
Perhaps not much fun to look at without VS. Gu.Units is the project with the public api. That is where I worry I have done abusive things to BrE :)

I can get VS Express 2013.

yeah
Don't waste too much time on it though, it will probably not be used for a March mission.

9:09 PM
In fact, I can get VS Ultimate "from my subscription". My employer's link to Visual stuff must be working!

ah, nice
VS is good to have any way
you don't use git?

I have a Git account -- I had to create a bug report on something -- but no, I don't use it.
At some point I'll make all my avatars match across everything :)
OK. VS is downloading. As I don't take my laptop everywhere, it might take a couple of days to look at.

ty sir

Hello

@AndrewLeach ok I just thought cloning would be better than downloading the zip

9:17 PM
I've downloaded that anyway. It's not large.

Actually you can just run it and have a look in the datagrids. Should be pretty fast.

VS Ultimate, on the other hand, is very large.

The UI-thing is just a hack to generate the code so it is probably buggy
how large is the dl?

It needed 9GB of drive space.
Not sure if that's download + installation.
Got about a sixth of it so far.
I think I'll go to bed and click Next in the morning!

10:18 PM
@AndrewLeach See you in your dreams!

Hi everyone!
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 @Mahnax I heard about the shooting in Parliament this afternoon, pretty bad.
At least he was killed before he could kill many people.
