Some toys are just so much better than other toys.
But in retrospect I must say we had good taste as kids, didn't we?
Absolutely. I only wish I had had more of these old Castle sets.
I am drooling looking at Brickset. I must stop myself.
Brickset?
I kinda wish I'd know when I was a kid that I wouldn't care later about Littlest Pet Shop and should spend all my allowance on LEGO.
Oh no, what have you done? I must have all those sets.
We got this one twice, because my brother and I just absolutely had to have Merlin.
Littlest Pet Shop? That sounds dumb!
That brings back memories of how I would buy a set just because it was the cheapest one with a really cool thing... I think I have that exact one, and I think I ended up with two wizards when someone gave me another set with him!
16:08
Haha.
brickset.com/detail/?Set=6037-1 I think this is one of the last sets I bought before I started to have to use my money for high-schooler things. I got it for the dragon, of course.
I really can't remember whether I had any really dumb toys.
Ooh that one is really cool! Never seen that wagon thing.
@Cerberus Your fantasy sets were dumb dude, we had the technic ones, like this: brickset.com/detail/?Set=8054-1
We did have several of those dragons, and a black one.
@z7sgѪ Those are cool too! I had a few of them.
16:10
Yeah... but those shiny swords? Didn't like them.
I was a conservative even then.
Aesthetically.
It was pretty dumb.
Wow.
It's brave of you to admit to having played with that!
I had this fish and I can't believe someone is trying to sell it for this much.
Then again, I did play with my friend's My Little Ponies. But we always had epic battles—no hair combing.
@Cerberus The old ones weren't completely ugly and giant-headed, at least. They were just overpriced miniature animals.
16:15
Wow. That looks somewhat better. But $22?
The new ones are frightening-looking.
Oh, dear.
@Cerberus I still have a fondness for My Little Ponies.
Ah.
I always just had to be the one with wings.
I take it you've seen this "trailer" then?
There's several others like it :-)
16:17
They're way better than Barbie, of which I had a few, but Barbies were frustrating... I remember I got stands for them one holiday because they couldn't even stand on their own. Who wants a toy who can't stand on her own?
@Rhŵdri Oh my God... what are those mutants in the background?
@aediaλ Yeah Barbie and Action Man just sucked.
I really never liked the Asian style of drawing characters, no offence.
They have weird hair, huge eyes, tiny noses: I just don't like it.
And I don't like the light "specks" in the eyes of those ponies either.
@Rhŵdri I haven't seen that! So awesome! I am covering my mouth to stifle laughter...
@Rhŵdri I've heard really good stuff about the new MLP
AHhhh but it's ironic! Then I like it!
Hadn't watched the video.
@FallenAngelEyes So have I, though I doubt I'll ever watch the real thing.
I've only had time to watch "My Little Serenity" and "Watchponies", but I want to watch the others!
16:29
Oh my Watchponies was great
So well done
@Cerberus The ponies with the clear wings, or the molded-on ones? I only had ones with the wings molded onto the body, but I had a friend who had one with the big, clear wings... I was always jealous ;)
I used to pretend all mine could fly anyway.
@aediaλ Haha why not!
I think my friend had both eventually, but I mostly remember the molded wings.
By the way, we even played MLP at school with a group of friends; that is, we didn't have any, but we pretended we were flying horses who battles various enemies at the playground. Boys and girls, it didn't matter.
Is the kind with the wings my friend had that were rarest.
I had one just like this that I got at a garage sale but his poor wings were broken off.
@aediaλ I remember something like that! I think perhaps they appeared by the time we stopped playing with MLP?
Aww.
This is exactly him!
16:43
Awwww!
Except mine was even in worse shape.
I feel sorry for him.
He was still one of my favorites. One of the last ponies I acquired I think.
@aediaλ I remember that one
@Cerberus You played My Little Pony?
16:44
@Cerberus I was definitely in middle school around the time I got my red-haired flamingo dude.
@aediaλ That is pretty cute though I must admit! :)
@FallenAngelEyes They were so cute, and smaller than the regular ones! I used to pretend mine was a rebellious teenager.
@z7sgѪ Well only for a short while, and everybody did!
We were probably 8 or so.
@Cerberus Well I guess you weren't psychologically harmed by it.
So that's ok.
16:50
I had a couple friends who always liked to play ponies, and they didn't have as much LEGO as I did, so we continued for a long time.
Serious question: what if an accepted answer is.... wrong?!?!
What should we do?
@z7sgѪ Post the correct answer and show up the original answerer.
Also downvote.

Maybe even comment if you aren't going to explicitly call out the other user in your answer.
@z7sgѪ Not a great deal, no. Probably.
16:52

A: Difference between an acronym and abbreviation?

nohatAn acronym (as the term is commonly used) is a term that is formed from the initial letters of some longer name and is pronounced differently than the expanded form. Examples of acronyms as the term is commonly used: FBI, which stands for Federal Bureau of Investigation, but is pronounced ef-be...

We have a duty to be right and comprehensive - leaving a wrong answer because it's old is actually pretty bad on the list of "Bad things you could be doing here"
16:53
His point there is that everyone says acronym so it is.
Or at least that it's widely used...
You want to cherish all content on your site, not just the new stuff. The old stuff is what people who search on your site will find, so if that's wrong, you're just making the site's reputation as a supplier of bad information.
@GraceNote It's not bad information actually, let me reconsider that. But I've answered old questions before and in reality, those answers get ignored.
@z7sgѪ The important thing is to have the right answer. It may not be seen right now, but that the correct answer is present for future readers, that is what is important.
@z7sgѪ I remember looking askance at that when it first appeared, because I've only ever used "acronym" as a synonym for "initialism". Pronunciation never entered into it. I assumed that I'd always been wrong, which is usually a safe bet :-/
@Rhŵdri Well I am fine with saying "it's commonly used for..." but I think that should be backed up by something otherwise it could just be made up.
16:59
I have no opinion on this question. I think the word "acronym" is ill chosen for such specific meanings as it currently appears to have at any rate. It should just mean something like abbreviation of you look at the Greek.
"A word that just uses the edge or edges of another word or words".
@Cerberus But you don't call etc. an acronym though it is an abbreviation.
That's how I'd want to interpret it.
@Cerberus That sounds prettier, like a stencil!
@z7sgѪ I agree that it is not commonly called an acronym; but the differences between abbreviations, acronyms, and initialisms do not necessarily follow from the Greek.
@aediaλ Hehe yeah, you could call that an acronym too! I had to look up how stencils work.
@Cerberus The Greek is sort of irrelevant here, though I wish I could understand it anyway.
17:03
Well, it's not to me.
If a.) there is no true consensus about the usage of a word, and b.) no real basis for a certain distinction if you look at etymology and consistency, then I just cannot feel strongly about it. But perhaps there is some sort of consensus that I am unaware of. So I will not meddle with it. You do it!
@Cerberus Were you deprived of art education after Spirograph? You poor dear!
@aediaλ Spirograph seems like the anathema of creativity to me. I am so glad I was brought up on etch-a-sketch. I am still crap at drawing. :(
@z7sgѪ It has endless variation within its own constraints; it has its own mathematical, near-fractal beauty!
I think it was seeing that ad... I wanted to burn those vapid smiley people.
I spent hours trying to create perfect egg shapes using only a compass and ruler.
I am far better at photography than at drawing or painting. I did have an etch-a-sketch too, but I always got mad at it the first time I would go the wrong way.
17:16
That is sort of similar I suppose.... some beautiful eggs.
Egg shapes? Like... oval-y eggy shapes, you really mean?
@z7sgѪ I love to decorate real eggs at Easter, and I've even blown out the contents sometimes in order to paint and keep them, but I always wanted to learn the intricate painting some of my schoolmates had in their family traditions and I never have.
Yo
Yoyo?
Hola, @Chaos!
17:19
...I was just saying hi.
Not yoyo.. lol.
@z7sgѪ Ohhh, beautiful!
Once you have the egg of course you rub out the construction lines and then you can colour it! :)
@ChaosGamerΕΛΥēelū I know, I was just having fun. And then got distracted by something shiny, so broke off before it was actually funny. Ah well.
17:22
No, yo :-)
@z7sgѪ I never made eggs but I had a Martin Gardner math and puzzle book, and one of the things in there was a Hexaflexagon. I made a ton of them:
In geometry, flexagons are flat models, usually constructed by folding strips of paper, that can be flexed or folded in certain ways to reveal faces besides the two that were originally on the back and front. Flexagons are usually square or rectangular (tetraflexagons) or hexagonal (hexaflexagons). A prefix can be added to the name to indicate the number of faces that the model can display, including the two faces (back and front) that are visible before flexing. For example, a hexaflexagon with a total of six faces is called a hexahexaflexagon. In hexaflexagon theory (that is, conc...

Electronic body music (EBM) or industrial dance is a music genre that combines elements of industrial music and electronic dance music. It first came to prominence in Belgium. Emerging in the early 1980s, the genre's early influences range from industrial music (Throbbing Gristle, Cabaret Voltaire), European synthpunk (DAF, Liaisons Dangereuses, Portion Control), and electronic music (Kraftwerk).
