Oh my everloving Christ.
13:27
I have spent over an hour wading through flags this morning.
WTH people?
13:44
yuppers
I've never seen so many flags.
I'm having chili with pasta now, because I forgot I was having chili and thought I was having bolognese
@KitFox so much crap content
@MattЭллен I used to have chili ziti sometimes. It's really good!
!!wiki ziti
Bucatini, also known as perciatelli, is a thick spaghetti-like pasta with a hole running through the center. The name comes from , meaning "hole", while bucato means "pierced". Bucatini is common throughout Lazio, particularly Rome. It is a tubed pasta made of hard durum wheat flour and water. Its length is 25–30 cm (10–12 in) with a 3 mm (1/8 inch) diameter. The average cooking time is nine minutes. In Italian cuisine, it is served with buttery sauces, pancetta or guanciale, vegetables, cheese, eggs, and anchovies or sardines. Similarly, ziti are long hollow rods which are also smooth...

looks nice!
I'm having conchigle
Why can't I keep the clipboard contents in my head when I switch computers? I always seem to think that's what happens IRL, but it never works for me. Stupid technology!
nerd rage
Yeah, technology sucks.
^V needs enhancements.
@Robusto They're working on it.
This is me today.
13:54
@KitFox People are dumb
@Robusto You've changed.
i no rite
It's on account of the crash.
Or rather, my imagination of you has changed.

The fourth card is The Troll, extroverted. You kicked someone in the nuts with their own foot.
@Mitch I'm sexy in a 1980s kind of way. Who knew?
@Robusto It only just dawned on me what that means. I thought you were sarcastically pointing out that I couldn't write.
Wait, maybe you do mean that.
no i dont
i mean "I know, right?"
But said ironically, as if lampooning a YouTube comment.
13:59
I know that now. The better response above would have been to say 'i no rite'. I would have laughed until I stopped.
I always laugh until I stop.
Not me.
Even if I laugh longer than that, I still stop at the end.
What the ... @Mr.Shiny?
What's with your avatar?
it looks fine to me
14:02
Oh! Ah!
Must have been the alt-text...
Sorry if I caused you undue alarm
Nah, I'm just jumpy on account of things being all weird this morning.
I think Reg must not have been at work today, which means his friend probably died.
Also, then he didn't handle flags this morning.
So I feel sad.
could he just be sick?
Could.
What happens to super-glue if you microwave it?
i'd imagine it expands...
apparently it emits toxic fumes.
Shout out to Rodney Thomas from Jaytek Development who solves all of my programming problems when I'm too dumb to fix them myself! throws confetti
user116900
14:15
Shout out to me who solves all other problems, lol.
user116900
Wow, some nasty fellow had to downvote my ovine answer.
Jasper <3 Hello!
user116900
Once again, my friend told me that Australians dislike Asians, is it true?
!!google do australians dislike asians?
14:19
!!google do non-asians dislike asians?
user116900
My friend who spent 9 years in the US said that Americans also slightly dislike Asians, but they dislike Blacks more.
Blacks and Hispanics are more disliked than asians in the US.
I actually recently saw a video about racial preferences for dating partners. It was really interesting.
user116900
I dislike my own people actually, lol.
14:21
I wish I knew what it was called...I forget
user116900
I would prefer to marry a white, even though I am Asian.
I prefer darker skinned people.
Although I find my husband very attractive and he's about as white as you can get.
user116900
White, Asian, Hispanic, Black is approximately White, Yellow, Brown, Black, lol.
Americans dislike everyone, the same way people are dumb but a person is smart
Really you can say that about any country
That's not true. We like Brits.
3
14:26
Some do, others have plenty of bad names ;)
And Canadians, even though they are kind of dumb.
2
I just feel that you can always find someone who hates someone
Well, sure.
user116900
I find most of the Whites here attractive and most of the others unattractive, lol.
But Merkins as a group don't typically hate Brits or Canadians.
14:28
And I feel that judging ALL americans as disliking ALL asians, is just begging the asians to generate more racism back towards americans, which is of course begging for more racism back towards asians again
user116900
Today my friend told me about the movie Caligula in 1979, I am going to find it and watch it, think there is lots of fornication in it.
user116900
@MickLH When people make a statement usually they mean that it applies in most cases, not all.
I've found that every single neighbor in my town that I've met isn't racist, and doesn't hate anyone except assholes regardless of race
@JasperLoy It's pretty much all fornication.
That's what he was famous for.
The worst of it is this guy who makes N-bomb jokes, but when it really comes down to it, he doesn't do that if someone takes offense, and his definition of the word includes white people, spanish, asian, or anyone wearing their pants too low basically :P
user116900
14:31
@KitFox Haha, I guess you have not watched it.
@MickLH Except the Norwegians. Everyone knows what they're like.
@KitFox everyone likes brits
Yay for me! I just had my first official documentation approved, and my first project completed!
@meer2kat Except all the former colonies.
user116900
Yay! I found Caligula! I am watching it now...
@MickLH Everyone is racist. The real question is how much.
user116900
14:41
It's over 2 hours.
@Mitch That isn't a race.
@KitFox I started finding that I really don't have a preference. I've dated nearly ever common ethnicity and have found them all equally attractive. Everyone has their little quirks that make them that much more cute and I don't think your skin color really affects that. I do find tan guys/mixed guys the most attractive but have dated just about all skin colors.
@KitFox you just said Americans like brits
@MattЭллен I did.
@KitFox america? we still like them :P
14:44
oh! you're still a colony. I forget
giggles
America isn't a former colony. The only part of it that might be considered as such dislikes the Brits on April 17th.
huh?
!!wiki april 17

14:45
It's Patriot's Day, Southern girl.
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 If you change "racist" for "prejudice" I'll agree, but racist is way too loaded of a word
user116900
Oh they told me I need to register after watching 5 seconds, lol.
@KitFox oh.
If anything, some Americans are so ignorant of other races, that they actually can't even be racist because they don't know the race exists
There are only three. Which one don't they know about?
14:47
the other two?
@kit it's not always april 17 :P that's why i didn't get it :P
@MickLH prejudice is too broad. People are prejudiced about lots of things. race is just one of those things.
hey guys, how does "while the key features and differences are pointed out" sound to you? Semantically, when I describe something, it is not really stressing/pointing out, is it?
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 exactly ... race is just one of those things, therefore racist is a misleading word
@Vochmelka What's the whole sentence?
14:48
@MickLH hence everyone is racist.
everyone is also sexist.
See, in that usage the words become useless
user116900
Shit, I can't find that movie, hehe.
i'm sexist. boys are icky. and women are bitches.
You might as well just say "human" and sum it all up
humanist?
:P
14:49
That's a bit different, innit?
@MickLH It's only useless if you refuse to acknowledge degrees. It's not a binary concept.
@KitFox Something is tested, while...
@KitFox just a wee bit :P
user116900
@Vochmelka Who is the guy in the picture?
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 I'm gladly acknowledging degrees, it's sortof the core of my point if you actually give some effort to understanding it instead of just trying to break it apart so you can feel as if you "won" something on the internet
14:50
@Vochmelka Sounds OK to me if you mean that someone is doing the testing and either showing someone else or being shown by someone else what the differences and features are.
@MickLH Oi. Back up a bit there.
We're all friends here.
f is for friends who do stuff together
@MickLH okay. You don't want to admit that you and everyone you know has some degree of racism. You'd rather use a different label for it. Maybe that makes you feel better. Go nuts then.
u is for you and me
n is for anywhere and anytime at all down here in the deep blue sea...
So uh, what happened to the friends thing now?
I don't know as we've determined whether balrogs have wings.
14:52
I mean I did just literally say that everyone having some degree of racism is at the core of my point
@mr.shiny and @mick you can put the rulers away :P
So obviously he's trolling, or blind (either way not worth wasting another moment on!) glad that's solved :)
k is for kryptonite
y is for y u gotta be like that?
s is for supercallifragilisticespialidocious
@KitFox a is for ain't nobody got time for dat
14:53
Dude. Seriously. I do not want arguments in my chat room today.
@MickLH So I guess I don't understand your point. You just said everyone has some degree of racism. I said everyone is racist, the question is how much. Are we agreeing or disagreeing?
user116900
I still can't find that movie. bangs table
you're disagreeing to agree

We are in agreement on that point
the end!

All the sites require me to create an account, lol.
@JasperLoy try the patented thigh patting technique
@KitFox Yeah, that's pretty much what I'm doing in my thesis. For a moment, I was thinking about saying mentioned or discussed as it could be more convenient as it is a thesis. Dunno... Anyway, thanks!
@JasperLoy try megashare
user116900
@MattЭллен A bit like Mr Bean.
14:56
I guess, a bit
Speaking of the word prejudice, I think it is overused these days. What most people do, however, is a generalization.
all people over generalise
which is not a prejudice

Q: Proactive vs Preemptive

Gary's StudentI need to explain the difference between "proactive" and "preemptive" and come up with a sample of the proper context of each word. Can someone point me to a previous post or give me their thoughts?

Seriously? Why this not closed?
I agree but I'm afraid to make my point lol
14:59
@Robusto it's closer now.
@Robusto I see you're being proactive
But not preemptive.
@Robusto Because it just got asked.
Actually, I think I was being prophylactic.

I would like to shake my mother sometimes.
You want your cards read?
And was I sending you the shirt? I forgot.
@cornbreadninja麵包忍者 upside down, so that the loose change falls out of her pockets, and you can take it to the candy store and buy Nerds?
@cornbreadninja麵包忍者 Yes.
But first I must have candy.
brb
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 that'll do nicely. But really because she sends me about 20-30 emails per day that are forwarded jokes and emails I just don't care about.
@KitFox yes!
@Mr.Shiny like breaking news from People magazine.
She actually got in trouble for it at work because some coworkers were on her list. The office manager told her she can't possibly have time to send all those emails and get her work done. So now she just sends them to family members. -_-
And now I feel terrible about saying that.
15:06
I'm going to get some coffee in lieu of candy.
good luck
@MattЭллен I do. I have horrible thoughts about her.
@cornbreadninja麵包忍者 No worse than anyone else about their parents
parents can be annoying
Send her an email and say "OMG, your account must be hacked because I keep getting shitloads of garbage from you!"
We meet once a week for lunch at Target and then do some shopping. She buys crap food like she's training to eat it competitively.
@KitFox :(
She is lonely and I should leave her alone.
15:07
"I'm going to block your address until you get it fixed!"
Her loneliness is not your fault. Your job is to set clear boundaries.
The electric kettle is a wonderful invention.
Sorry. I have baggage from my own mother.
I'm sure I've mentioned it.
@KitFox I suppose it's Dad's fault for dying. But she dated someone for a bit and my brother and I were bristly about it.
15:09
And the lots of therapy I had about it.
He was a jackass, though. Then she dated a dude who lives closer, but I think the condition of her house scared him off.
She can resolve her own issues.
She won't. She will eat them.
And watch TV.
And complain about her weight.
Still not your fault.
That's all on her.
user116900
My favourite line in Good Will Hunting is "It is not your fault", lol.
15:11
It was the second best phrase my therapist gave me.
The first was "You don't get to tell me how I feel."
I said that to an old boss once. Well, I said "don't tell me how to feel".
It's not. your. fault.
Coffee acquired.
OK. Ready for your cards?
I'm bald.
I have a beard
15:16
@Vochmelka I hope to be balled later today.
Goodness.
That reminds me that I have to follow up about date night.
You want the short version or the full spread?
@KitFox dealer's choice.
Let's start small. That's what everyone got yesterday.
@KitFox Or was that about date night?
And I'm a rig worker. Probably the only one using LaTeX.
15:18
@Vochmelka yeah, I have an IUD.
I...
user116900
I finally found Caligula, shh...
Happy leasehand, happy lease, they say.
Oh noes, @corny!
user116900

The second card is The Safe, inverted. Your financial security is at risk.

The third card is The Letter. Some unexpected news will change the course of your path.
user116900
@cornbreadninja麵包忍者 Yay! Congrats!
probably breaking news from People
15:22
well she wrote me a letter, said she couldn't live without me no more
@MattЭллен lol
@JasperLoy he ain't opposed, but he ain't ready.
I'm highest paid janitor in Alberta.
"[I]n a survey of nearly 1,500
editors in chemistry, a plurality of respondents stated that
double-blind was “pointless, because content and references
give away identity”" What does 'plurality' mean here?
So altogether, your hopes were not realized, but still hoping, you have put yourself at risk financially. Something will make all of it moot.
user116900
@Vochmelka Are you a rig worker or janitor?
@GlenTheUdderboat The largest segment was less than 50%.
15:24
@Jasper Loy That's the same thing.
@KitFox my bank account got pretty low and I rode it out instead of moving money from savings, but I got paid last night. Could that be it?
Car's in the shop, but they already told me how much it will be.
!!youtube the boxtops the letter
I would think bigger than that. Like, you can't support yourself independently of your partner.
But that's pretty cynical of me.
@KitFox Please explain further. What does that imply for x% < 'plurality' < y%?
!!define plurality
15:26
@GlenTheUdderboat 50% or greater is a majority.
@MattЭллен plurality (uncountable) The state of being plural.
@KitFox I have three jobs.
Two of which are for fun.
But there is always the looming threat of being laid off from the big one.
I had no idea that guy was so hot.
Juggling, fire eating and accountancy
That means there are three or more segments, and the largest segment is less than 50%, so not a majority, instead a plurality.
I know all about it, since our last six governors we elected by a plurality.
@KitFox more than two segments, right?
15:27
@KitFox Ah, so, there is at most 1 plurality in a sample?
plurality: the 51st state
The plurality is the biggest segment. But it's not more than half the population, so it's not a majority.
So you could have pointless: 34%, not pointless: 33%, neither: 33%.
Pointless would be the plurality.
@KitFox Clear! Thank you.
When I was really little, I thought this was the 51st state.
15:28
true: 33%, false: 33%, file-not-found: 34%
@cornbreadninja麵包忍者 ??
@KitFox cause it looks like new york.
Oh.
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 that is the internet!
So that's it? It's all bad news?
Or bad news made moot?
15:30
But New York is the 11th state.
@cornbreadninja麵包忍者 This one, if that's bad news to you.
I could do a full spread if you want.
@KitFox hmm.
@KitFox Sure!
Give me a minute to rearrange my bedclothes.
@cornbreadninja麵包忍者 Just remember what those people who don't know anything about Chinese say: the Chinese word for "crisis" = "danger" and "opportunity". Those people are wrong, but they mean well.
And get more candy.
What is the 51st state?
15:32
@GlenTheUdderboat Puerto Rico? Guam?
user116900
@GlenTheUdderboat Plasma?
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 I like it.
@cornbreadninja麵包忍者 It isn't true. But it's nice to think that it is.
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 I would have guessed that. In fact I did. But I think it is something else.
15:33
@GlenTheUdderboat It depends on our next election. If the same asshole remains in power, we will more and more become the 51st state. Or the 51st-64th states, probably. If we can turf him, we might stay Canadian for a bit longer.
The "51st state", in post-1959 American political discourse, is a phrase that refers to areas or locales that are – seriously or facetiously – considered candidates for U.S. statehood, joining the 50 states that already make up the United States of America. They can be external territories or parts of existing states which would be admitted as separate states in their own right. The phrase "51st state" can be used in a positive sense, meaning that a region or territory is so aligned, supportive, and conducive with the United States, that it is like a U.S. state. It can also be used in...
@JasperLoy That's the 4th state.

A: Can an adverb be a noun?

tchristYou’ve asked a loaded question when you say, “Can an adverb be noun?” It has hidden assumptions that render both potential answers — that is, either yes or no — in some way wrong. It’s like asking someone whether they’ve stopped beating their husband yet. No matter whether they answer yes or n...

At your head is Temperance. Rely on the balance between your internal self and your social support to help you. Use your own judgement, but don't neglect the advice of people that you trust.
At your feet is the Knight of Wands, inverted. Someone led you astray spiritually, convinced you to do something against your better judgement.

I am going to watch Caligula now, I will give my review of it later on!
In front of you is the Six of Cups, inverted. Your dilemma centers around the conflict between an external ideal (from family or society) and your internal ideal.
Probably children.

Hello.
user116900
@Cerberus Woof! How did the date go?
Behind you is the World, inverted. You have had doubts about yourself and your purpose in life.
@JasperLoy Oh, well, it was OK. I haven't decided yet how OK.
@KitFox But that's for the football team, right?
user116900
15:49
@Cerberus Alright. I hope you get married soon, lol.
And I hope that I won't!
That's the first part, which I would say roughly translates to feeling like if you don't follow the path that others have set out for you, what path will you take, and why will that be OK for you?
Ready for the second part, or you want more detail from the first?
Because I'm a stubborn path maker, and as long as I can support myself and stay out of jail, who gives a damn?
@KitFox Um, I think I'm ready for the second part.
Hello, Dad? I'm in jail!
Oh. Huh. Seems like you have more doubt than that.
@meer2kat f is for fire that burns down the whole town.
15:53
For the second part, you have Six of Wands, Nine of Swords, Ten of Coins inverted, with your outcome as The Falling Tower.
Which is ohmygod.
But let me think a minute.
@KitFox numbers and so hard to remember their meaning. The wheel of fortune and the fool are pretty straightforward but 7?
Six of Wands is the same as what I said before, do you follow the path that others suggest, or are you master of your destiny?
Nine of Swords means that, whatever your decision, you are in for a lot of conflict.
Could this still be about babies?
Do you think it is about babies?
15:56
Or wishing to write for a living?
You find out if you're pregnant by the ads that Target sends you.
Tim's mom wants grandchildren. My mom wants grandchildren.
@Mitch ha.
@cornbreadninja麵包忍者 So at least they're consistent.
Six of Cups makes me think it's probably more like being a writer. Babies or no babies is always a big conflict though.
Maybe both.
She doesn't want babies and she wants to write for a living!
judgy judgy judgy
15:58
@KitFox and write about babies?
Could the conflict be what I write about?
Or only whether my writing is worth a damn?
She's giving up a lucrative career to write! And she's not even going to do it in order to be a stay-at-home mom like all women should be!
No, the conflict of Nine of Swords is external.
Having to do with your relationships with others.
But I didn't finish.
