LAME is a free software codec used to encode/compress audio into the lossy MP3 file format. History The name LAME is a recursive acronym for "LAME Ain't an MP3 Encoder". Around mid-1998, Mike Cheng created LAME 1.0 as a set of modifications against the "8Hz-MP3" encoder source code. After some quality concerns raised by others, he decided to start again from scratch based on the "dist10" MPEG reference software sources. His goal was only to speed up the dist10 sources, and leave its quality untouched. That branch (a patch against the reference sources) became Lame 2.0. The project q...

If you post a really dumb, troll question and it is closed, does it affect your reputation?
closing does not affect reputation unless you have too many closed questions in one go and then you get suspended. I think that temporarily puts your reps to 0, but that might not be the case
if you questions get downvoted then you will lose rep

@meer2kat the link is this, and the TL;DR instructions are the first two paragraphs on that very page. It's completely free, and completely anonymous, but people do have to create an account, even if it's throwaway. And most just don't want to do even that.
And thank you for spreading the word if you can.
@RegDwigнt Well, Exosuits are a common thing in sci-fi. At least that one is generic enough that it serves a purpose. But more importantly, it's a really great model. Unlike some of the other kits, which are basically "Here's a car, and some custom minifigs"
15:11
Yeah it's cool I suppose but I am still torn on whether I'll actually be getting one.
I mean, I plan to pick up the Ghostbusters set, don't get me wrong. But I don't think it's the best thing Lego could be spending their time on.
As a parts collector I don't care much what's on the box.
@RegDwigнt You made these? Super duper cute
So to be perfectly frank, I totally see myself buying Ghostbusters, but exo suit I dunno.
@meer2kat thank you.
And, like, the Sherlock and Dr. Who projects that are really popular. Srsly? It's just minifigs. Where's the great new building technique, never blessed by Lego until a fan got it into cuusoo? Where's the smorgasbord of great parts in rare colours? Seriously the tardis and sherlock's office have got to be pretty boring.
15:13
Yeah I didn't support these.
Even though I've been supporting quite a few projects lately.
Yes, some people are really good at making Sherlock's office, just like it appears on TV, or whatever. But unless you're a huge fan of the show, the model is just any other building interior. And LEGO has those nailed with things like the haunted house and the modular buildings.
I do wonder why the heck Wind Waker doesn't get more supporters. Great model, excellently representative of the game, with play value, great parts and building techniques. What's not to love?
I said I was sorry, @Mr.Shiny!
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 I didn't get the Big Bang Theory for the same reason. And now there's a second BBT project that's expressly titled "Sheldon's Room".
To be fair, BBT all plays in those three and a half rooms. Don't know about Sherlock, presumably he does get out more.
@KitFox It's okay. I was just joking. Well, joking about the crying part.

I've never played any Zeldas, so it doesn't work for me. I think that project needs better renders to look more serious.
15:21
Fair enough. I've never watched Sherlock.
I am actually not sure if Nintendo fanbois outnumber Sherlock fanbois.
Ten years ago certainly. Now, no idea.
I've never watched Sherlock either, tbh.
But that zelda kit does have lots of the typical features of a lego kit. multiple vehicles, or protagonist+antagonist, some kind of play features, etc.
Yep. I actually liked just the first image I saw, but then it kept getting better as I scrolled down to find out how you can clap open the island to access the chest inside and all.
Oh well. I am off in a minute.
Actually going to the LEGO Store, among other things.
I overheard the Simpsons CMFs were available in the UK already, so I wonder if will be getting them here as well.
Preparing for hours and hours of tactual shopping.
Over and out!
Yeah, the CMFs: a good example of how Lego doesn't need to do a whole theme, if they just want to satisfy people's urge for figs.
15:38
I like Sherlock. I never played Zelda.
Still I'd be more likely to play with Zelda lego than Sherlock lego.
Also I want to add that I am very disappoint with the new Lego video games. They are all crap.
I think the Cuusoo people have a bit of a problem, similar to our blog. Who is their target market? Because kids probably don't care much about 80s movies.
@KitFox i like them. i like the marvel one in particular. how open the world is. though the original indiana jones one is still by far the best
Yeah, but no.
@KitFox no?
Batman 2 is the best. Marvel is OK if you don't know the Marvel Universe at all.
Otherwise, it was clearly written by people who read DC.
15:41
@KitFox lol fair enough
I just realized I have not documented a single bit of work today.

Why are so many people into Lego here?
prepares to duck
Why is that noteworthy?
I guess.
Of all the toy related things.
Wait, was that an actual question or were you suggesting what I meant to ask?
That's a question. Why do you find that to be an interesting question?
Because many people are into Lego here?
Reg seems to have some sort of campaign promoting animal Legos.
Yes. Many are human as well.
There are also parents and coders and people who speak English.
Why is the Lego enthusiasm the focus of your question about this community?
I mean, really, the only answer is "because".
You might just as well ask why so many of us wear shoes or eat spinach.
16:15
Right. Sorry. You seem annoyed.
It's a peculiar thing to ask.
Especially when you are prepared to duck.
It seems like what are you asking is "Why do you like Lego?"
But then you follow it with something that makes it seem like you are really meaning "Why do you like Lego, because I think it is stupid?"
Well, I apparently wasn't aware that so many people were into it.
I didn't mean that.
Which in the end is really just trolling, because you could just say "I don't like Lego."
If you can compare it to wearing shoes and all.
I don't have an opinion on Lego.
So it's better just to say what you mean.
Like "I find it noteworthy that there are many people who are into Lego."
16:18
Yes.
I didn't read Reg's Lego's page well enough to know what he's exactly doing. I presume that's where your annoyance comes from. Sorry.
No, it's not that. It's that it is disingenuous to ask a question like "Why are so many people into Lego here?"
And how do you propose I should have asked that instead?
Well, what is the information you are actually looking for?
I clearly didn't know that Lego was so popular that my question would be interpreted as disingenuous.
Now I do.
So, I got the information I was looking for.
So what you wanted to know was whether Lego was popular in here, starting with the premise that Lego is popular in here?
16:30
Apparently it's not popular just here.
Well, no. They made a whole movie with Lego. I believe it was a blockbuster.
If it were, it wouldn't or at least, shouldn't be construed as an annoyance.
Not everyone watched it.
Not everyone watched The Deer Hunter either.
The important thing is why is it important to you that it is or isn't popular in here?
Are you interested in Lego? Are you conducting a survey? Do you want to know specifically what we find enjoyable about Lego?
Or are you just remarking in a semi-rhetorical way and now wishing you had never typed that?
Because I'm curious? Seriously, I'm finding your questions troublesome because I don't really see the big problem with my question. I simply didn't know about its widespread popularity.

@Alraxite Lego is more than a toy. It is an art form, a kind of design, a kind of engineering, a kind of mental conditioning. Not to mention a collectible. There is a huge sub-culture of lego fans, not even including the regular kids who just see it as a toy.
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Okay. Thanks.
@Alraxite And you'll probably find a high correlation between lego-fans and programmers, and also a lot of us here are programmers and came here from StackOverflow.
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Why would that be?
I mean, the correlation between lego-fans and programmers.
@Alraxite Because the activities are similar. Programing computers is similar to building structures and machines out of lego. I used Lego in my computer engineering course, when we were learning computer organization. And there are even programmable lego products now (Mindstorms).
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 I see. That helps!

@meer2kat It's never too late to go back. There will be more lego to buy next year, or the year after, when you've got money again.
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Exactly....I'm actually wondering if there's any way I could build them in to my curriculums when I start teaching
17:00
@meer2kat What will you be teaching?
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 math if i go the middle school route. math and physics if high school
Lego has many useful ideas in the bricks. re-use. scarcity. creative problem solving. mechanical engineering. architecture and visual design. story telling.
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Physics would be very easy to incorporate. math itself, i'm not sure
@meer2kat At those ages math probably doesn't need lego to help it out. Maybe if you have a good demo to show off an idea or something.
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Yes probably. Not sure. I could always just have contraptions on display in the classroom for brain stimulation or something

A Turing machine is a hypothetical device that manipulates symbols on a strip of tape according to a table of rules. The "Turing" machine was invented in 1936 by Alan Turing The idea came to him in mid-1935 (perhaps, see more in the History section) after a question posed by M. H. A.
