15:00
har har
All this talk of meteor showers and proposals reminds me of the time...
My original family name was, let's say, Marley. My brother naturally shares the same last name. He decided that it would be very romantic to propose to his girlfriend during the Leonids, which were particularly marvelous that year.
He had the ring for over a week and was really, really nervous about making the proposal a memorable one. He really adored this woman and wanted her to have a very special memory of the event.
He is sweet like that.
So they'd both taken work home and were trying to meet deadlines and were stressed out until late in the evening, when his girlfriend said "I know! Let's go watch the Leonids tonight!"
does she still remember it?
shh I'm getting to it.
Around midnight, they went out driving, looking for a spot to watch. First, they pulled into a gravel pit, but that wasn't particularly romantic, plus she'd gotten out to pee and was convinced there were rabid wild ducks in the bushes. Thankfully, they moved on.
They ended up on the hood of the car on the reservoir dam.
By now, it's about 1:30am and my brother is exhausted and so anxious he can barely breathe.
But he's determined, and man, this kid can get things done.
So he takes a deep breath and gets down on one knee and opens his mouth to propose.
He gets stuck somewhere between "Will you be my wife?" and "Will you marry me?" and ends up with "Will you be my Mrs. Marley?"
laughs
wipes tear
hehehe
that's one for the grandkids
15:10
She laughs and goes to hug him, and they fall against the railing of the reservoir dam.
He is holding onto her and the box with the ring very tightly, so he ends up sliding ass over teakeattle down the bank with her in tow.
They land at the bottom, slightly scuffed. She grabs the ring box and shouts (still laughing) "I said YES!"
haha. how comical. :D
And they live happily ever after.
@MattЭллен It gets better every time I tell it.
That's a fun story.
so now we know: you're Kit Fox née Marley.
Marley. Humbug! There's more of gravy than of graves about you!
15:17
It's like you can see right through me with my clever choice of names.
Is it telling that I think of Govenor Elaine Marley before I think of that Dickensian ghost?
It depends on what you think of her.
I think she's someone called Marley
Bob Marley comes in third
There's also a dog or something.
Oh yeah, Bob Marley. A Maine comedian.
Oh. Yeah. Guybrush!
15:19
Also, the other one.
Oh! FFS, I have been looking in the completely wrong place for why this wasn't working.
@MattЭллен The 1951 adaptation of A Christmas Carol is one of my favourite holiday films.
I don't think I've seen it. The Muppet's Christmas Carol is alright.
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 It freaked me out as a kid.
I saw scrooged at the cinema. I don't remember it too well
I never wanted to watch it again after that, until I saw Scrooged.
15:23
I only saw Scrooged once. I don't recall much about it, except that I didn't like it.
It was funny when I was in high school. I don't know if I'd find it funny now.
Sort of like Groundhog Day crossed with Ghostbusters.
@KitFox yeah I was probably too young for it when I saw it.
hm, it's suddenly dark here. and thundery.
Oh, shit. Sorry.
Groundhog Busters
I was debugging.
Let me see if I can fix that.
15:29
nah it's okay, goes with my mood
I keep making exclamations like the talking cat in the original talking cat "wake up kitty" video.
Fuuuck. Whaaaat? No.
Etc.
I showed it to my husband last night because he had never seen it. He lol'd.
l'dol
I'm not sure I've seen it
!!/youtube "wake up kitty"
time to go
15:30
Hmm.
!!/youtube "talking cat wake up kitty original"
@KitFox Video not found (rule 35?)
I am sooo lazy.
There. That one.
ah, yes. I have seen it before.
phew
I just ran to the union and back.
takes off pants
Too hot for pants now.
15:54
Guess I didn't need to run.
16:28
@KitFox I knew it was time to come back in.
Mmm. Hiya, @cornbread.
Just in time for dessert.
After this important phone call...
gets out syrup and jalapeños
OK, your turn.
I'm preheating the oven.
Is...is that a...euphemism?
16:45
Um, yes.
A euphemism.
heeheeheehee
Hold up, is that boysenberry?
Uh...
No?
Chocolate?
You can't have maple syrup with cornbread and jalapeños.
ponders
Well, maybe you could.
We could try it and see.
You...like trying new things?
I'm already forking some holes in myself.
For the syrup.
I guess I could just sit in a pool of it.
Wet my bottom side.
(like that)
pauses with fork in the air
(only with different words)
...
splutters
16:51
Let's get you cleaned up.
ok.
Time to put my calzone in the oven.
uh, ok.
I have to fix my code.
Ok. I don't want to get pregnant.
@KitFox I'm having a Zippy moment for a different reason than yesterday.
16:56
Hi, MeteorEd.
I don't understand "Zippy moment."
I first read that as Ziggy.
I think I'd rather have a Zippy moment.
That's what I was thinking, but I'm not very familiar with the cartoon, so I don't know what to ask.
And I was working up to the glazed donuts just now, @Mr.Shiny, and you totally cockblocked me.
puts pants back on
It's my superpower
sadly it works on me too
Like a dog. Enthusiastically breaking everything by accident.
I had thai food with my husband for lunch and now I feel like I'm going to barf. I ate so much.
Why? Why must you do these things?
Now I have to talk and talk to get that image off my screen.
But it will never be out of my head.
Like the chicken on a raft.
Like what is love?
Like the voices that tell me I'm a vegetarian.
17:18
baby don't hurt me
don't hurt me
no more
bobs head
you can delete the message if you want
nnchk nnchk nnchk
Apparently, love is three weirdly dancing vampire chicks.
Which takes us right to—
suddenly...desperately...wants a mullett
Too. Much. Cheese. Must. Drink. Coffee.
17:33
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 let me hear your balalaikas ringing out
come and keep your cornbread warm
I'm back in the USSR. You don't know how lucky you are, boy.
@KitFox I do that with spicy food.
back in the US / back in the US / back in the USSR
It took me a second for the song to click. I was in the middle of "Pump up the Jam"
wiggity, wiggity, wiggity wack
17:40
brb kerfuffle.
wishes for ffl ligature
brbwork
Good enough. Thank you.
Whachamean, good enough. It's the precise thing you asked for.
Some people.
The l isn't connected.
The effs are ligged to my satisfaction.
17:46
it's connected on my screen
It's a single glyph. It's the codepoint for the ligature. How your computer displays it, is your problem.
Well that should be about enough substituting for tchrist for the day.
Now I can relax.
17:50
I shall follow your advice.
Oh cute!
I like this "WTF are these my feet" expression. I wonder where I can use it.
hee hee hee The more I look at it, the funnier it gets.
@RegDwighт We haven't got the GREP results list yet. You can relax after that.
Everyone wants to hear about my lego train, right? The motorized passenger train, which I thought was pretty boring, has turned out to be lots of fun. It can really fly around that track.
The old-style steam engine locomotive, by contrast, is a relatively poor performer on curves and it fails on switches.
Its wheelbase is too long
Also lego track takes up tons of room. Luckily my three-year-old son was smart enough to explain to me that if I didn't have enough room on the table, we could just build the track on the floor.
18:06
Very good thinking.
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Whew, that WAS lucky.
You may smirk at me if you wish. But actually if he hadn't suggested it I wasn't going to bother. But I'm glad I did, because the larger layout lets me use switch tracks properly and get more track length in play.
I wish not to smirk.
I wanna shoop.
Not smirking. Praising your practical-minded child.
Definitely smirking.
18:10
I was referring to David :)
Oh sorry. Distracted by code and asmr.
there's code asmr?
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Yay!
goes and sits in the smirking compartment
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 No, but great idea.
18:11
Well done.
whispers public void main(String[] args) { }
Mmm...
Where's the crackling noises?
oops, forgot static.
Ah.
Better.
whispers public static void main(String[] args) {}
18:13
I think we've lost Kit.
She's spacing out on ASMR hormones right now.
I think I am getting better at keeping my levels even.
I have yet to do a video worth posting though.
Ohh it actually worked a little bit!
I love it.
@cornbread would like my collarbones today.
Make a video where you explain your code and edit a few things!
18:19
I have to star that.
Gonna listen to Strawberry Letter 23 first.
@Cerberus It doesn't work for me. I'm too busy picturing the code and trying to decide if it makes sense or not
You're being too critical!
Not that ASMR typically works for me. But this one less so. Can't relax enough.
18:21
Yes, you always have to be in the mood at least somewhat.
Code is too much like work.
maybe if it was something more foreign to me. Like game programming or 3d simulations.
You're like a musician who can't listen to live music any more.
OK, something else then.
Something to show off my collarbones.
I've got it. Recording something now.
18:38
Look at this purty bug I seen.
@cornbreadninja麵包忍者 Wow! Purdy.
Hmm. I wonder why it is so big.
That's what ... never mind.
I don't have a very good webcam. I think that is the best it can do.
frowns I think I will have to stick to audio-only ASMR.
18:45
@cornbreadninja麵包忍者 Oh. I think I've seen those in north Texas.
@KitFox I like your blouse.
It's a dress!
It's super pretty!
It's got a boatneck, which is why I thought you'd like it.
Very flattering for the collarbones.
@KitFox I liked the way the wifebeater straps stretched across them.
Or Old Navy beateresque tank.
18:48
Oh, I see.
I should lift more then.
Uh...a few times a year.
I have weights in my office.
looks evasive
It's cool, baby.
Some sort of webbernets meme.
Oh right.
Derp.
