11:01 PM
@MετάEd Yes.
Hi.
Also, I read your answer and I liked it.
Hi @Jasper.

user174558
@KitZ.Fox Hi, that is a very nice hat you have.

Thanks, it's cozy.
I'm surprised you don't have one.

user174558
Oh, haha, I know I said I like hats that day, but today, I don't really like them.

That's OK. Hat liking is not required.

user174558
It is 15 days to 2016. I am excited. I must try to start studying on 1/1 this time.

user174558
I see what you did there. Let me take a look at the faq.

user174558
Oh it links to 5 questions on meta.

It's coming along nicely. We'll have a well-ordered chat before you know it.
@JasperLoy There will be more, but I figured that's enough to get started.

user174558
Well, it is already pretty well ordered to me.

user174558
I like it that there is a chat room for us to talk. Otherwise SE would be very boring.

11:14 PM
@MετάEd Yes!
But would it be terribly annoying if I had more?

user174558
@Mitch Have you seen the post about increasing sequence on ELU?

@JasperLoy I did not see what she did there. Really. What's the difference?
@JasperLoy link?

user174558
@Mitch What she did there was to change the subtitle of the room.

@MετάEd I'm thinking maybe a link to the Use-Mention distinction on Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Use%E2%80%93mention_distinction

user174558
@Mitch english.stackexchange.com/questions/294251/… I don't know how he got the other answer.

11:19 PM
I kinda would like
1 - something more per line, to add nuance
2 - there's do and do not, what about "it's OK to " (eg ask for language things that would be off-topic on main , like minimal proofreading, or "am I the only one who pronounces word X this way?"

user174558
@Mitch I might be wrong, but I suspect he did a google and tried to pull off an answer. Also, it has nothing to do with convergence or divergence. I am not sure what math class he took.

@Mitch I think 2 is covered in your other post, about what chat is for. But maybe that should be linked to and maybe those things should be called out more.

@JasperLoy I agree with your answer and se that deadrat's is just wrong. But how to say that diplomatically?

user174558
@Mitch I already said that in the comments.

Also, @MετάEd, I'm thinking that we should have something like "idle chatter is OK, as long as you don't mind being interrupted by serious, on-topic conversation."

11:28 PM
@KitZ.Fox Yeah. You had closed it before. When I tried to reclose, it said I had already voted to close it.

user174558
@KitZ.Fox Yes, that sounds good.

Or something like that. It's OK to be off topic, but on-topic takes precedence.
@tchrist Weird that's not in the timeline.
What did I close it for?

Dupe.
The timeline should have my close vote if it's going to tell me I have one.

@KitZ.Fox @Mitch Would it be too much bother to put those suggestions in the comments on the answer so I can find them later?

Would someone else who agrees with me mind doing it? Because of my involvement in chat reform, I don't want to come across as a puppetmaster.
And if no one agrees with me, then just don't post it as a comment. no harm, no foul.

11:31 PM
@KitZ.Fox @MετάEd I don't want you to have to write an essay there, but I feel many points (not all) need nuance. eg pseudonym (do you mean always use a false name instead of your own or change the default to a memorable one.

user174558
@KitZ.Fox How do we do it?

@KitZ.Fox yes. I want that said explicitly.

@Mitch Maybe you could ask questions for clarification on specific points?

@KitZ.Fox You might as well do it. There's a record here of you pulling strings anyway :-]

user174558
I mean, put what where?

11:32 PM
the Do/Do not trope, while a useful simplification, cn be interpreted, who said it here recently, stalinistically if it's not prohibited it is mandatory

Um. OK.

@KitZ.Fox @MετάEd I will. (It's just a nunber of points that I'll go through.)

Except I didn't you know, actually write it. I'm overthinking it, aren't I?

THere's no end to thinking

user174558
Yeah, don't think too much, it is just the internet.

11:33 PM
@KitZ.Fox when I grow up I want to be a sockpuppetmaster
@MετάEd yes...sometime this evening.

@Mitch You know I know about your socks, right?

user174558
Yes, I think I know that too.

user174558
I have several accounts on this site which I did not email SE to delete, but nonetheless renamed to please delete me.

gasp WHAT!?

user174558
Let me show you...

@KitZ.Fox I will link in the use-mention distinction article but I will neither use nor mention Strunk & White who are, sadly, referenced in the article.

user174558

11:37 PM
I'm surprised those aren't deleted yet.

user174558
I never emailed them, so it's not a surprise.

please delete me, let me go

Would you like me to take care of them for you?
@JasperLoy Well, I think there's still an autoscript that looks for that.

user174558
@KitZ.Fox I deleted those email addresses associated to them too, so technically I don't own those accounts anymore.

I will delete them if you want.

user174558
11:39 PM
Hmm, I think we can just leave them as they are, in case you get into trouble for deleting an account you are not supposed to.

user174558
So I say, we just leave them as it is, unless the script does it automatically.

Oh I wouldn't get in trouble for it. I can confirm that they belonged to you and you are telling me you want them deleted.
You could also request to have them merged into your current account.

user174558
OK, then go ahead and delete them, though I can only be 99 per cent sure they belonged to me now.

@KitZ.Fox No sock smell shaming in chat.

@JasperLoy I can be 100% sure, but I will wait until later to do it.

user174558
11:45 PM
@KitZ.Fox OK, thanks.
