7:02 AM
chat is almost dead

7:29 AM
morning EL&U

@MattЭллен You are early today.

I am early then.

I guess :D

I just woke up from my nap.

7:32 AM
any good dreams?

Nope. My sleep is still pretty intermittent.

I dreamt about winning a Magic: The Gathering game
it was nice

Maybe I should try not to sleep until I feel very tired, and then sleep longer.

@JasperLoy that's a shame. I tend to dream more if I lie on my back
@JasperLoy maybe
probably

@MattЭллен In my school days, people always played magic.

7:33 AM
mine too
it's still a very popular game

Nowadays kids have other toys, like iPads.

but adults still play Magic :D

I hate all computer and card games.
Are you now on Ubuntu 14.04?

that's your prerogative
@JasperLoy not on my laptop. for some reason it hasn't prompted me to upgrade. I might have to do it manually
@JasperLoy are you on Mint?

@MattЭллен It is the latest release and also the latest LTS. You probably have the prompt set to off.
@MattЭллен Yes. Mint 17, which is an LTS. In fact Mint will only produce LTS from now.

7:36 AM
@JasperLoy It was, but I turned it on on Staurday

I always do a clean install. Upgrades might go wrong.

8:28 AM
I always do a filthy install.
@Cerberus dunno if this's been posted, but I came across this 2048 clone yesterday. The hardest one so far.

8:46 AM
Okay WTF.
Grand Master Flash, Led Zeppelin, and NICKELBACK?
Are you insane or what.

no, just diversified my friend :D

That's like a slap in the face of, um, everyone.

turn the other cheek

Nickelback is not diversified. Nickelback is the exact opposite of diversified. Look it up in a dictionary.

i meant my taste in music pal

8:47 AM
Seriously. You are allowed to post XKCD before you're allowed to post Nickelback.
@skullpatrol I am not sure what Nickelback has to do with either taste or music.
Post more Led Zeppelin quick.

@RegDwigнt you don't wanna be a rock star?

@skullpatrol I am a rock star. And no, I don't wanna be one.

9:04 AM

@RegDwigнt damnit this game requires skill

@MattЭллен I got to 243 on my second try, but that involved some luck. It took me ten more games to get there again.
My record right now is three 243, but not merged. Plus change. I think in points that's something like 4000. Don't remember, and the screenshots are at home.

I've only managed to get to 2 81 tiles.

I can get to 1800 points quite reliably, but above that it's really hard.

930 is my best so far

Let me see. I haven't played since yesterday.
Damn it, I'm at four 81s already, but no chance to merge.
Ah, got it.
But no real chance to go anywhere from there.

nice
I keep getting my biggest tile in the middle at the bottom with pairs on each side :(

Yeah, that's where you're screwed. 2-1-2.
You really have to rethink with this one. You have to move to all directions.
The usual strategy of sticking to a corner only works for the first couple moves, if that.

Oh my goodness.

9:28 AM
:D

Lilac is the new black.

I guess I'm going to have to learn to use the up key!

Anyone wanna give a few upvotes for this?

@skullpatrol The three women are very beautiful. I would like to marry all of them.

9:43 AM
@JasperLoy Those are not "women," they're gold diggers.

@skullpatrol Oh really? Too bad I have no gold. I am only a banana.

@JasperLoy you and I both pal :-)

anyone have ever tried drinking water from clay pot? it tastes amazing

First try.
But maybe I got lucky.
Also, 243's favicon is that of 2048's.

First try :-O

9:58 AM
Is probably going to be my highest score for the unforeseeable future.

You are a natural.

Yeah, you should have scored 17k instead. Now it's too late.
Now it's only 1700 forever.

I was shit at 2048.
But I attribute that to the game's repetitive gameplay.
I keep spamming and when I realise I should stop, I'd have already lost
Because I see the game over screen.
So I realise I should've stopped

Meanwhile I'm at 1.2 billion points at 9007.

What if you accidentally close the tab.

And have it closed.

@Alraxite I make a snapshot every couple minutes.

Oh.
OK. Cool.
Didn't think of that.

10:42 AM
@skullpatrol Hello!

@DamkerngT. how are you?

@skullpatrol Ah, I was a bit busy. Sorry for the delay.

11:10 AM
@JasperLoy How did you figure that out?
@Hugo I ask myself that all the time.

11:36 AM
Gawd, I just spent half an hour trying to get a QA person in India to understand and agree to a simple request.

11:51 AM
Eww. You people are gross. Now I can never drink out of bottles again.

A: What do you call the final sip of water in a bottle (with all the saliva)?

Matt ЭлленThe word I am aware of is backwash (ODO). Although it doesn't specifically refer to the last sip, it is what the last sip will be made of. The liquid that flows back into a bottle, glass, etc. after someone has taken a drink, assumed to contain that person’s saliva So I would call it the "b...

I know. it's horrible. I don't think I send saliva back into a bottle, but I guess maybe?

@Robusto Did it feel like this?

@JohanLarsson Kinda.

#AnythingIsPossible

@RegDwigнt In the US we call it blowback.

12:03 PM
That is just awful.
We don't call it anything ever.
Who are you, Indians?

Q: Is there a term for something that is tainted with another's saliva?

@Robusto backwash?
@RegDwigнt May be handled in the family????

Matt said backwash. I've heard blowback. I don't share beverages normally.

Effing caste-ists! UNCLEAN! UNCLEAN! UNCLEAN! Burn the witch!

@tchrist I did say Indians.

Sorta like "Eww girl germs"

12:09 PM
@skullpatrol I already said cootied.
@Robusto Yeah, like who would ask even?
They’re both a bunch of weirdos.

infected with germs

Mysophobic.
Mysophobia (Verminophobia) (from Greek μύσος - musos, "uncleanness" and φόβος - phobos, "fear"; colloquially germophobia/germaphobia, a combination of germ and phobia to mean "fear of germs", as well as bacillophobia, and bacteriophobia) is a pathological fear of contamination and germs. The term was coined by Dr. William Alexander Hammond in 1879 when describing a case of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) exhibited in repeatedly washing one's hands. Mysophobia has long been related to the OCD of constantly washing one's hands. However, Harry Stack Sullivan, an American psychologist and p...
Or Germanophobic.
Fear that it has kraut in it.
Freaks.
Look what it did for Howard Hughs.

contamination

@RegDwigнt Sloppy seconds. Sloppy sevenths. Sloppy thirty-seconds.
If a dusty plate was good enough for the Lone Ranger to give Tonto to eat off of, it should be good for any Indiean.

@tchrist You missed the "e".
HughEs
and to think he lived the american dream

12:21 PM
@skullpatrol I gave it to Tonto.
It’s out on loan.

icic
Hughes said "Money is like manure, you have to spread it out, because if you keep it all in one place it will make a big sink."
@tchrist are you loan sharking Tonto now :-)
you already took his land

Why do you think we call him Tonto?

Because Tunte is German for fag.

poor Tonto

@RegDwigнt Tanta información por una sola preguntita.

12:35 PM
@skullpatrol yeah that's totally gay how he's crying.

> The long black cloud is coming down
Is ^ correct and if so what does it mean?
I get that it is about death.

@RegDwigнt that's how men cry in the 21rst century

@JohanLarsson Could be about anything at all. It's just a cloud. Could be a metaphor for your mom.

ok a @Rob q then :)

For some reason it sounds kinda funny to call a cloud long.

12:39 PM
and coming down?

Cirrus are ~long shaped~ compared to cumulus

Well if it's coming down it's coming down. Not that clouds do that, but if this one does, so be it.
@JohanLarsson cirrus is not shaped at all, compared to cumulus.
It's just some ice crystals in 12 km height.
I know all about clouds. My final exam was in geography.

can you count clouds?

One, two, four, five...
Yes I can!

not

so egoistic and any other word that means it?
so how is that even possible?

it is not

Are you saying it is not possible in English to say that he is also knowledge?

But I only just said just that! So it's possible after all.
Now I just need a single word because reasons.

@MattЭллен De Niro gained approximately 60 pounds (27 kg) to portray La Motta in his later post-boxing years.

@RegDwigнt Sorry, I meant Dutch

Dutch era German planes?
They had planes in that era?

Fokker was a Dutch aircraft manufacturer named after its founder, Anthony Fokker. The company operated under several different names, starting out in 1912 in Schwerin, Germany, moving to the Netherlands in 1919. During its most successful period in the 1920s and 1930s, it dominated the civil aviation market. Fokker went into bankruptcy in 1996, and its operations were sold to competitors. == History == === Fokker in Germany === At age 20, Anthony Fokker, while studying in Germany built his initial aircraft, the Spin (Spider)—the first Dutch-built plane to fly in his home country.
