"Rude Boy" is a song by Barbadian singer Rihanna, taken from her fourth studio album, Rated R (2009), that was released as the third single from the album on February 19, 2010, through Def Jam. It was written by Mikkel S. Eriksen and Tor Erik Hermansen under their stage name StarGate, Ester Dean, Makeba Riddick, Rob Swire and Rihanna, and produced by Stargate and Swire. "Rude Boy" is an up-tempo song and incorporates elements of raggamuffin, pop and R&B. The song received mixed to positive reviews from critics; some called it is the highlight of the album, but others criticized Rihanna...

In linguistics, a word is the smallest element that may be uttered in isolation with semantic or pragmatic content (with literal or practical meaning). This contrasts with a morpheme, which is the smallest unit of meaning but will not necessarily stand on its own. A word may consist of a single morpheme (for example: oh!, rock, red, quick, run, expect), or several (rocks, redness, quickly, running, unexpected), whereas a morpheme may not be able to stand on its own as a word (in the words just mentioned, these are -s, -ness, -ly, -ing, un-, -ed). In mathematics, a matrix (plural matrices) is a rectangular ' of numbers, symbols, or expressions, arranged in s and s. The individual items in a matrix are called its elements or entries. But the rule for matrix multiplication is that two matrices can be multiplied only when the number of columns in the first equals the number of rows in the second. A major application of matrices is to represent linear t...

They also totally broke GIMP. You thought it was broken beyond repair, but no, they went that extra mile and broke it further still.

how is it broken now?

I can't type shit. Nothing. A stupid (semi-transparent!) dialog pops up, in which I can enter shit like size and family, and what I want to type, and that is it. It has no effect on the actual image whatsoever.

a guy just asked "does masturbation cause hair loss" in the math room, i told him stop it and find out

2:57 PM
@RegDwigнt Have you ever typed stuff in gimp before?

I do find text insertion to be highly unintuitive

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 yes, whence the "broken beyond repair" bit. But it still sort of worked, you see. Now it works not at all.
They really managed to make it worse with every single build.
And they did that to a great many things, mind you, but the Text tool in particular still stands out.

ah, I'm apparently using 2.6, not the latest

Same old, same old.

@MattЭллен yeah, so you can curse and swear, but then it kinda works. In my version, the last step has been removed.

3:00 PM
@RegDwigнt what version do you have?

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 I wonder if they'll let me look that up!
I have the version where all icons magically disappear after a while.
And entire windows.
Not to mention that I am still not on top of the "export rather than save" paradigm, and neither is the tool.
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 2.8.2.

So on my 2.8.2, when I click the text input tool, it pops up a thingy that looks like a text input, but is actually a font selector. You have to draw a box first.
the box you draw is the text input thingy.

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 I tried drawing the box first, I tried drawing it later, I tried not drawing it at all.

Dunno, it works perfectly fine for me, except the totally unintuitive first step of having to create the text layer

And what's the point of drawing the box if you invariably go on to fine-tune and reposition anyway?
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 totally unintuitive doesn't begin to describe it.
A door handle is totally unintuitive. This here is GIMP.

3:05 PM
@RegDwigнt well, it does for me. because that's as far as it goes. it is actually working.

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 it does nothing for me. I can only type inside the text input tool. The box stays empty at all times. I can copypaste into it from elsewhere, though.

So I conclude that your gimp installation is broken.

One of the more frustrating things I've found is that to use my wacom tablet for input I have to open GIMP with it, otherwise it ignores it

No, you have to click on the box to type there.

Oh.

3:07 PM
that one-line text-input thing is a font selector

Okay, that works. But the font size or color cannot be changed.
Nor the font family.
Oh FFS. I have to mark the text for that.

Seriously, who came up with this shit. I will seriously bludgeon him to death.

why isn't the font selector a combo box. HTF do I know what fonts are installed by name.

Don't break further what's already broken!

3:09 PM
that's not our motto! "Break it until it works"

hey, if you click on the tool options, you can make a "dynamic" text box, which at least means when you s tart typing the text layer is created and sized for you

Where is tool options?
Gah, and when I make a new text box, it doesn't remember my selection from the last time. I have to start at 18pt again where I already set 95.
Meanwhile I think @skullpatrol made me make a Math mod grumpy.

@RegDwigнt Thanks for your contribution...

@RegDwigнt on the tool box
or maybe it's a dockable dialog. Windows->Dockable Dialogs->Tool Options
on the Tool options there is a list of the installed fonts, at least.
And if you change the font THERE it affects the whole text layer you're editing.
wow this is more annoying than I recall it being.

I gave up and closed everything.
And went on to promote my animals in the Math room instead.

@Cerberus I tried the Google input tools as an input method. Besides extending the keyboard it has a mode where you simply draw the character you want, and it does a text recognition and pastes the character. I was able to paste an o with micron by simply drawing it.

Britannia rules the waves and all, but does that mean they have to come on to her?

oh, yes, I see

@Cerberus I don't know ... writing is not a strange way to create text.

Is that on to or onto?
@MετάEd It is on a computer.

@Cerberus on to

Especially while typing.
@MattЭллен But the waves are literally falling onto her lands.

4:42 PM
@Cerberus It's unexpected, maybe, but not funny. In fact on my Samsung S3 mini I handwrite a lot of things to text, so actually it didn't even strike me as unexpected.

> preposition

1 variant form of on to (see on).
so either is fine

@MετάEd 1. It is a lot easier to switch to handwriting with your finger when you are already using your finger to input text. 2. Typing is a lot less convenient on an S3 Mini than on a PC keyboard, so the lower efficiency is less noticeable.
@MattЭллен I wouldn't write "I fell on to the ground".

I would

That would mean "I continued to fall, towards the ground".

I don't normally use onto

4:46 PM
Hmm.

@Cerberus It wiould mean that the ground is where I landed

It was actually meant as a pun in my Britannia sentence, but I'm glad I'm not the only one who's always messing with to and -to, then.
@MattЭллен That would no doubt be the intended meaning...

@Cerberus and the actual meaning
as ODO points out: many style guides frown on onto

Onto: Aboard. "We got onto the train." "He started off all anxious, but then he got ontological."

@Cerberus actually, according to the search, I never use on to but I'm guessing that's due to stop words
I've said onto 29 times in chat
30 now

4:51 PM
You said it. Ow! I said it! Aieee! I said it again! Aieeeeee!

@MattЭллен There you go!
I've never heard of style guides frowning on onto, on the contrary?
Don't make me consult Fowler...

I didn't write the ODO entry. I'm merely pointing out that it agrees with me
so I am more right than you!
> Many style guides still advise writing it as two words, and that is the practice followed in this dictionary
