3:00 AM
@Robusto that seems to get dirty.

You have to go all the way with it.
An apple serves as well as any skull
To be the book in which to read a round,
And is as excellent, in that it is composed
Of what, like skulls, comes rotting back to ground.
But it excels in this, that as the fruit
Of love, it is a book too mad to read
Before one merely reads to pass the time.

@cornbreadninja麵包忍者 You’ve found Holland.

@tchrist New Amsterdam, it's become much too much.
To sleep, perchance to dream.

And you thought I wouldn't get the reference.
"I speak double-Dutch to a real double duchess"

Have you gone mad?
Has the NSA installed a borked brain plug?

3:06 AM
I just put the user whose name anagrams to "I'd rush" on ignore, and that makes me feel really good—about me!
It really ties the room together.

Ah.

@Cerberus That is irrelevant. Normal standards of sanity do not apply here.

So I see.

Sew aye sea.
Sow eye, si.
Sough aieee C.

Which brand?

3:09 AM
Not PHP. PHP should die.

pppppppplleeeeeaaaazzzzzz

It won't kill itself off, though. It will require help.

Oh good, I can come back

Worked for me.

I should have some standard videos to pop in. Maybe nyan cat.

3:19 AM
The paper's terrified to report
Anything that isn't handed on a presidential spoon,
I'm just profoundly frustrated by all this. So, fuck you, man (fuck 'em)
Yeah, yeah, yeah, ignoreland. Yeah, yeah, yeah, ignoreland
If they wasn't there we would have created them. Maybe, it's true,
But I'm resentful all the same. Someone's got to take the blame
I know that this is vitriol. No solution, spleen venting,
But I feel better having screamed. Don't you?
Good night.

homemade word
JUNE 28
Those words invented at home, and used in the family but don't have a meaning outside of the family or friendship group
Tom: Sorry I didn't understand that, what did you say?

David: Oh, sorry, it was a homemade word.
=D haha

5:56 AM
My English teacher once told me to stop using "used to" because it does not make sense or something (I cannot exactly remember what was the reason). Do you think it is totally fine to use it in everyday conversation and even in formal writings?
If not, what should be the replacement?

It's fine, but of course we would need to see the context.

All from my side..

i care for you.
Do you have for me?
No!!!
I don't Care..!!!

2 hours later…
7:44 AM
@KitFox thank you.
@tchrist thank you.
@cornbreadninja麵包忍者 thank you.

8:01 AM
You know what's really good for concentration? lots of noise and activity going on around you. Makes focusing on your task really easy

I am screaming at you right now as hard as I can. Hope that helps.

It's like a refreshing beeze

You misspelled "refreshing booze".

mmmm. Lagavulin

8:18 AM
@MattЭллен Listening to Pantera used to work for me when studying math

Maybe music would help. I'd prefer silence right now.

Okay, my new favorite sentence shall be,
> Who right use to and for?

:D I tried to change it, but I couldn't decide what it meant
d'oh

Well for starters I would wager the "use to" should be a "use to".
But it's okay. It's more than okay. It's perfect.

yes yes
I moved the formatting to the wrong word

8:24 AM
No you didn't.

You only properized it.
No movements involved.

I would really like to know what language uses songs for, um... written? It's quite a nice change.

9:07 AM
> This question appears to be off-topic because it is about spam.

People must have confused us with spam.se

Haha.
An understandable mistake.

maybe we need a tag line to our title
English Language & Usage (not to be confused with spam.se)

But then we won't get any questions any more!

lol
Now, I'ma let you finish, but Mitch asked the most popular question of all time.

9:19 AM
Spamish language and usage.

spam, eggs, hash browns, spam, bacon and spam

9:40 AM
> Source: Europa.eu
Now that's a nice address.

Croatia joined the EU!
I didn't know it wasn't

@MattЭллен I thought they'd been in it for a while?
In fact, I'm sure they were.

@DavidWallace me too

But they didn't use the Euro.

9:43 AM
Yes, I can read it. I just can't quite believe it.
Sve po osam kuna may have to think about a name change.

Hi!
Yay!
I knew they were about to join officially.

OK, so you're smarter than me or Matt. We know.
And Hi. And Yay.

Just happened to have read the news.
I'm sure you're smart enough!

Haha. For some reason, I'm thinking of one of our TV presenters here, who a few years ago, read on air a letter he had received from a child.
"Dear Mr Holmes. How come you know everything?"

Aww.

9:47 AM
He said "well, I read a lot". Then he realised how it sounded, and said "also, I have lots of people to do research for me".

Heh.

This is the same guy who got himself into trouble for his racist remarks about Kofi Annan.

By the way, congrats on your publication!

Haha, I bet it wasn't what you were expecting.

What did he say about KA?
I...don't think I was expecting anything!

9:49 AM
He called him a cheeky little darkie, if I recall correctly.

Well, that's not so bad?

Well, yeah, it's pretty bad.

Why? It's friendly?

But inappropriate on public radio.

Treating people badly because they are of a certain "race" is racism to me. Not just any reference to race.

9:50 AM
darkie is diminutive and hilites the colour of his skin, which is taboo

I wish it weren't.
But anyway.

one day, maybe, not today though

Associating the colour of his skin with being cheeky is unacceptable.

I can hear a tour guide talking to his troupe: "this is where I had my very first biking accident".

:O
outside your house?

9:52 AM
Which is in front of my house. It's in the top-10 of most frequent accidents.

how brave of him to visit the traumatic site

Yes, outside.
The accident probably wasn't too bad.

Was he in a hurry to meet you?

People drive slowly but carelessly here.
I can't see him, the curtains are closed.

No, I mean when he had his accident.

9:54 AM
Well, I can't see who he is.
So I wouldn't know.

peek though your curtains

Haha.

I actually just did.
And of course I don't recognise him.

It's not me.

A gnawing (American) accent.
So neither of you.

9:55 AM
Shh. You'll offend Tom.

First among my worries.

Yeah. Obviously.

Among anyone's, no doubt.

I certainly lose sleep over it.

9:57 AM
Oh, I barely sleep any more these days.

Hah. I sleep when I shouldn't. And I don't know it.

Really?
How can you not know?

Apparently, several times a day, I sleep for 15-30 seconds, and don't realise it. Unless there's some obvious indicator of time.

Or do you mean not until it's too late, i.e. after you wake up?
Hmm.
"Apparently"? Someone has told you this?
Is it narcolepsy?

I have had a huge number of tests. The most recent suite involved attaching electrodes to my head and measuring my brain waves. During these tests, I fell asleep several times, and was completely unaware of having done so.

9:59 AM
I often fall asleep when I'm sitting still, as during a concert; but I can feel it coming very well. I just lose the fight.
@DavidWallace Oh, wow. 30 seconds is really dangerous while driving.

One of my workmates tells me he often sees me sleeping for about 10 seconds at a time.

Anything that can be done?

Yes. Didn't you know I crashed my car? So I don't drive any more.

Oh!
I didn't know.
Is there something they could do?

Sorry, thought I told you. It was almost six months ago. I haven't driven since then.

10:01 AM
It is possible that I had forgotten.
My memory isn't what it was ehh sometime in the past.

It was a very serious accident. The car had damage on all sides.

Yikes.

And my ex-wife wished to kill me afterwards.

So there is no cure?

For my ex-wife wishing to kill me? Or for my unexplained periods of sleep?

Q: Present tense in a question with verb in past tense

user1943282Is the below mentioned question correct? Will it be was I or am I? Will it be can't or couldn't? "In order to clarify myself more I wanted to ask am I correct in thinking that we can’t test token system in sage pay simulator?"

what

@DavidWallace The latter?

am I correct in thinking?

When they know the cause, they might suggest a cure.

So they don't?

I am waiting for my neurologist to contact me. Maybe he knows something I don't.
In fact, given that he's a neurologist, I desperately hope he DOES know something that I don't. Otherwise, I'm in the wrong career.

10:12 AM
Heh OK.

You hated my article, didn't you?
Do these jeans make my butt look fat? You're not supposed to hesitate.

Hate it? No, not at all.
It is of course about religion, which is not my cup of tea, but the style is clear, and so is the structure.

Thank you. You are very kind.
The first person I showed it to was a wonderful Muslim woman from Pakistan, who said the language in it was childish.

Haha.
I don't see why it would be childish.

I might become a regular columnist in that magazine.

10:18 AM
Yay!

And I will NEVER finish my Mockito book.
:(

I read that as "I might become a regular communist in that magazine".

That might be more interesting.

Haha.
Instead of being a communist on Sundays only.

that would be quite regular

10:23 AM
I suppose that's true.

unless you don't know which Sundays

The one after Saturday.

Does "on Sundays only" imply anything more than that something doesn't happen on other days?

it implies to me every Sunday

Hmm. Interesting.

10:24 AM
The day when you go to church, so you're only a good boy when there's social pressure, but not normally.
That's what it implies to me.
And, yes, every Sunday.

Social pressure to be a communist in a Muslim publication on Sundays?

Oh, so to speak.

Oh, I see.

It was a rather...random remark.
So anyway, I need to go buy stuff.

consumerist! CU

10:28 AM
Haha. Just like Reg to sow a seed of incomprehensibility then not comment further.

Hehe.
I need to buy some tools, a wedding present, a birthday present, and food.

Have fun shopping.

I shan't, but thanks!

That sounds like a fun little trip.

Adieu!

10:29 AM
Mon dieu!

Ciao.

11:11 AM
@Reg I didn't answer your question directly. I hope you don't mind.
Hmm, today is July 2nd. Seems like there is something I should remember about today...

coughs gently

well
let's check google

ahem

Lindsay Lohan's birthday is today
is that it?

11:16 AM
Oh god.

:D
Many happy returns @Kit

And of course it's raining today. It always rains on my b—oh! thanks.
Actually, that's not true. Twice it has been nice weather.
And on those occasions, I have nearly killed my mother.
Or my brothers were shitty.
But this year is going to be great, because there will be cake.
And now for me to commute!

Yay! commuter cake

see you soon.

11:20 AM
Oh, happy birthday @Kit. I'm sorry, I had no idea! I hope you're having a good day.

11:32 AM
@KitFox I think you were more elaborate than the others combined. Also, this room is not for answering questions directly.
Or indirectly, for that matter.

I believe it's OK if your answers are incomprehensible.
