12:00 PM
I'm a lazie
Luckily I'm not a lasee

You're a Lassie?

no, no. that's Cerb's boyf. I'm an Orc

Morning.
I had me some crazy chat room dreams last night.

nice
Morning.
are they shareable?

Uh. I probably shouldn't have mentioned it if I didn't plan on sharing, right?
I've got a practice presentation in about ten minutes though.

12:06 PM
I don't know. some people like to stir up anticipation for anticipation's sake

I'll sum it up by sharing that in this book I'm reading, one of the exercises is to draw a nice picture of my vulva, which I am really not going to do.

@KitFox I hope it teaches you what you need to know!

Well, it teaches me that the project lead can't respond to meeting requests.

who needs meeting when you're 100% ego?
or id
or whichever make sense there

I'll finish my summary by saying that you all have some really interesting vulvas.

12:09 PM
lol. thanks

And apparently I want to have sex with my stylist.
She's a bit mannish for my tastes, but whatever. That was actually probably because of that erotic story I'm working on.

probably

I was thinking that maybe I should call my girlfriend and tell her I need to do some research because I can't at all remember how to um. You know.
For Science!

I see. Yes, for science!

But I think that would be too demeaning.

12:11 PM
Hahaha

We watched a nice chick flick last night too.

what one?

Aside from feeling like i did everything wrong yesterday, things might be looking up.
@MattЭллен Take Me Home
brb
There. What do you all think of the conference room?
Is it nice to stretch out on that big screen?

It's not octagonal enough

And the board is warped.
OK. I have to do this thing. See you in an hour or less, I hope.

12:16 PM
@KitFox What?

@KitFox CU

@MattЭллен Star for useful

hi
what's the meaning of "held by the author" in this text: "While the information included herein is believed to be balanced, and any opinions expressed genuinely held by the author, they do not necessarily represent the view of XXX"

To hold an opinion means to have the opinion.

people hold opinions
yeah, what Reg said

12:27 PM
The point of the whole sentence is that the author has some opinion, but XXX may have a different opinion.

is there any need for a "," before genuinely? "and any opinions expressed, (are) genuinely held by the author"

it is a weird way to phrase it, IMO

It's not strictly necessary, no. It helps break the sentence down into shorter chunks.
@MattЭллен yes, I've certainly seen more elegant ways of saying the same thing.
This is quite clumsy.

"and any opinions expressed genuinely, (are) held by the author"?
very complicated

Nah, the genuinely belongs to the held.
The expressed opinions are genuinely held.

Jez
12:30 PM
@MattЭллен nah it isn't bad enough to qualify as "weird"

I.e. what the author says, he also genuinely believes in.

Jez
and I'd say are believed to be has been elided

Could be.

@Jez I can't get from expressed to genuinely held without are
it just doesn't work for me
or and

Jez
"While John is believed to be nice, and Jane nasty, we don't know who stole the money."

12:32 PM
but then and would break the rest of it

People. Why discuss in such great detail what should be just thrown away wholesale and rewritten from scratch.
3 mins ago, by RegDwighт
This is quite clumsy.
Now let's move on.

because this room contains the entire universe
including this room

Jez
@RegDwighт you could say that about most of Shakespeare
too hard to understand

and this discussion came up in the universe

@MattЭллен Exactly. So it contains every variation of that discussion already.

12:34 PM
@RegDwighт people revel in the familiar

@Jez and I don't see you discussing Shakespeare.
You only help me drive my point home.

OMG, i hate these kind of musics
It makes me feel like something is going to attack me from behind

Well you should be thankful, then. Otherwise that something would attack you without warning.
Ed looks like D'Artagnan.

hello @MετάEd, is your avatar a picture of your face?

@MattЭллен It is.

12:41 PM
It's good.

I'm Porthos, then.

I'm somewhat remiss

@MετάEd omg you look like Robert downey junior

@MattЭллен Thanks.

12:42 PM
@TemporaryNickName And dear God.

@MattЭллен you're Milady de Winter.

@RegDwighт yessssssssss
seeks out corsets and flouncy dresses

@TemporaryNickName I was thinking George Harrison for some reason.

Wow, nice photo of Ed.

12:47 PM
it really captures his essence

Yeah. Normally he's like your typical So-Cal Co-Ed, but not today. Not today!

He's like your typical So-Cal Co-Ed, or he is your typical So-Cal Co-Ed?
I mean, like, was that a "like like" like, or a like that actually meant "like"?

He is just your typical socal co-Ed.
If you will.

And how can ONE person be Co-Ed?
And here is just the person who can no doubt answer that very question. Hello @Corn.

Well, if he were MORE THAN ONE person, he'd be Eds. But he is Ed. So.
It's like logic, if you will.

12:51 PM
It seems not very much like logic at all, to be like logical.

Logic is not about seeming, though. That's your problem right there.

@KitFox What sort of picture of it ARE you going to draw?

Q: Why does 'coed' only mean female coeducational students?

coleopteristAs an adjective, the word coed, short for coeducational, indicates an institution that teaches both males and females. However, as a noun, it can only mean "a young woman who attends college". Why is this so and how did this come about?

@DavidWallace Well, going by logic, an unnice one.

Hello, I must be showering.

12:53 PM
That's a nice one.

I wondered why the room was suddenly all wet.

Fall of the shower to you!

@cornbreadninja麵包忍者 because you're here, or because your hair is getting wet?

@MattЭллен I was going to say hello, I must be going, but I wanted to be more factual.

How very sharing of you.

12:54 PM
factually

Sharing is caring.

@RegDwighт Is unnice the same as not nice?

No, it's first nice but then no nice.

Is sharding carding?

Oh, and I was forgetting renice.

12:58 PM
I've always enjoyed this chat room

What happened then?

but now?
jinx

I still enjoy it

What a letdown. Never become a screenwriter.

12:59 PM
I consider it a letup.

Speaking words of wisdom, let tuce.

@RegDwighт But my mom said I could be anything I wanted!

@AmaanCheval you should be polite and tell her the same thing.

I seem to have fallen behind, let me ketchup

AFK, BBL, OU812

1:01 PM
@MattЭллен Is it you, Uma Thurman?

@cornbreadninja麵包忍者 What?
What's OU812?
Nevermind

@RegDwighт not quite

Enjoy your shower, @Corn

@AmaanCheval It's like UB40, except different.

It's rather like asparagus, but different from that too.

1:12 PM
Van Halen?
@DavidWallace No pictures.
No painting. No photography.
I didn't want the mirror when I was giving birth, and I do not need one now.

Oh crud, they sent us that ugly gun-control thing after all!!

Dick Cheney?

Dick Cheney is an S&M fetish.
Anyway, it’s a dupe.

A no hat dupe, innit?
According to my vague recollection.

@JohanLarsson Yeah, Caligula was a travesty. What do you expect from Bob Guccione?
@KitFox So where did you chop up your lines of coke then?

1:27 PM
I didn't need it. I was producing my own.
What a rush.
That's probably why I have felt so empty since the last one and no possibility of another.
Agh. Another meeting already.
Later.

@KitFox No, @Cerb.

Q: How do the rules of English inform understanding of one of our language's most disputed sentences?

Greg BaconYes, historical context is important, but forget it for a moment. Taken at face value, what does the text mean? A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. Is the leading clause an essentia...

I rather hate “inform understanding”.

1:45 PM
Hello folks! Is "tricky" an informal word? I guess it is somewhere in the middle between formal and informal but I would like to have a confirmation :)

@Robusto Just for the record, I was confused yesterday, flamed Spartacus when I confused it with Caligula

@MartyIX yes. it is used in informal situations, but not normally in formal situations

I wouldn't say it's an informal word
It's not the most professional either, though

thanks!

no probs

1:57 PM
@MattЭллен I would feel comfortable using it in a scientific paper, but only as a set-up to a more precise description.

ugh, what a long morning

@rlemon Same problem as always?

yea.. stupid bunions

@Robusto I think I'd stick to difficult
