As far as I remember, they keep putting the accent on the last vowel. If they say subito they would say subitò.

I never actually compared Italian to French I guess... But I can tell you, most people here, when speaking in everyday life, won't pay attention to that (I'm including those who pronounce it right and those who don't)...

They may often be confused in daily speech, but when pronounced neatly people will hear the difference.

I am not sure I pronounce the italian ones the right way, honestly. :D It's a matter of education: where you were born, where you grew up, etc.

On Rete Toscana Classica, there is a presenter who I first thought was saying ebiem' escolteto la .... Bech.

Though the a's in stressed syllables were more /a/-like.
