6:00 PM
The worst DDR moment I had was at a reception at a faculty member's house, where the daughter had DDR in the basement
She knew I was good and wanted to show me off to the other kids there
But one of them was a 15 year old girl.

I keep getting distracted by the fact that DDR stands for Deutsche Demokratische Republik. Have to re-parse your posts all the time.

(Actually I have a DDR shirt I bought in Berlin that I wear sometimes when I do DDR with other people :)

No way!

I actually bought it before I started playing DDR

Then I take everything back. Who's ridiculous now?

6:03 PM
I'm ridiculous, but in an awesome way.

So that's why you're not an Astronaut... Alles klar!!

Not in a lame teenager way.
Ja genau
haha

I have to ping whoever was wondering about your name.

I really like some of the DDR propaganda and logos, from a design perspective

(Whoever = object and subject!)

6:06 PM
sobject

Turns out I would have to ping myself.
Feb 2 at 13:43, by RegDwight
Oh! Russian?
But only because of @mplungjan.

Haha

@Kosmonaut I was actually referring to that "whoever is next" question

Yes, I know!
I remember that one.
I really like that one — it is a great observation.

Q: Can I Help Who's Next

BenThis seems to happen every time I go to my local bagel shop. Everyones waiting in a line and when the cashier is ready to help the next person he/she asks, "Can I help who's next?" or "May I help who's next?" This seams wrong to me, shouldn't it be "Can I help whomever is next?" or "May I help wh...

6:09 PM
I always found the word cosmonaut to be a really fun word
An astronaut was a real thing, but a cosmonaut sounded like something from a space movie

Or Seinfeld.
Cosmo Kramer, usually referred to as simply "Kramer", is a fictional character on the American television sitcom Seinfeld (1989–1998), played by Michael Richards. The character is loosely based on comedian Kenny Kramer, Larry David's former neighbor across the hall. Kramer is the neighbor of main character Jerry Seinfeld, residing in Apartment 5B, and is friends with George Costanza and Elaine Benes. Of the series' four central characters, only Kramer has no visible means of support; what few jobs he holds seem to be nothing more than larks. His trademarks include his humorous upright ha...

True

All right, y'all, serving as a bookend to @Kosmonaut's initial nomination, I am closing the nomination period with my own, with but 50 minutes left

It is funny that we had different words for space explorers, depending on whether that person was communist or capitalist.

Well, technically, Kosmonaut is safer, as you travel to space, while Astronauts travel to stars where they burn alive.
Wait what?

6:12 PM
Wow!

1 hour ago, by Eldros
that's timing
Also, and I'm repeating myself, but
2 days ago, by RegDwight
We might end up having a primary, after all.)))

Haha
One hour left! Nohat, did the USB drive gift arrive in the mail?

like an eBay auction, everyone swooping in at the last minute

Only if we can convince Robusto to run, plus grab a few random strangers off the street. Like ASAP.

yes, i got my USB drive. it is a very generous gift

6:15 PM
Indeed!

@nohat, your blurb has actual, like, content. Ew. :)

it's a little incoherent though. i didn't have time to polish

A++ would vote again.
Yeah, there's a to missing here and there)))

now i have to finish writing my Trial by Written Declaration for a ticket I got over Thanksgiving, which is due tomororw

Gotta love those.

6:21 PM
Ah, supper! Gotta go. CU tomorrow.

Bye!

I think I need to go see about lunch, too. Your homework is to strongarm four more people to nominate themselves in the next, what is it, 1 hour? Yup, that's what the page says.

6:50 PM
10 minutes left i think

Tick tick tick tick...
::reaches for insect repellent::

7:12 PM
Huh. Does anyone know what happens if you don't have the reputation to cover a bounty?

You won't be able to set it. Reputation is deducted at the time the bounty is set.

FX_
@nohat 45 minutes left as of now, actually
closes at 2100 CET

@FX_ Yep. The mistake, which is actually fairly common, comes from SE always rounding time down.

FX_
@waiwai933 which I find fair, because it means you're not taken by surprise

@waiwai933: Ah, that explains it. I was just curious as to how vgv8 was going to survive yet another pointless bounty when his reputation was 1.

I can't believe that I got 24 upvotes for this:

A: What is the difference between "maybe" and "may be"?

FX_maybe is an adverb, meaning perhaps or possibly. may be is a verbal construction, formed of the modal verb may and the verb be, which can be used in sentences like “he may be in the office today”. Note that, if you were to rewrite this sentence with maybe, you would say “maybe he is in the offic...

the randomness of it all (which questions get viewed and voted upon a lot) is quite intriguing
is there a way to know which questions were featured on the main stackexchange home page?

7:40 PM
Maybe it's just time of day. I only tend to be on the site for a limited time, so I only see a limited number of questions on the active and new pages.

FX_
well, I am always on around the same time, and the views still vary a lot

Please cast your vote in the English Language and Usage 2011 community moderator election!

Ok, where's my "I have voted, have you?" sticker?

So I guess we're not having the Town Hall meeting, eh? Oh well ... I voted anyway.

Duly cast. You may now commence treating :-)

@Robusto, I think you can change your votes as many times as you'd like during the election period.
...checking...

@Kosmonaut — YouTube link! YouTube link! We gotta see Kosmonaut doing DDR!
@Martha: Hmm ... that doesn't sound like a real election to me.

8:16 PM
Ayup: I first cast my vote on the Cooking elections last week, and I just went and fiddled with them, and it let me change things around to my little heart's content.
Did Rebecca Chernoff say anything about whether she's gotten enough replies from the candidates to schedule something?

OK, well, then let me herewith announce that I have cast my votes — but I can be bought! If you're really serious about that diamond next to your name, contact me offline and send money. Cash or credit card only, please. No checks.

Wow, you take credit cards? Fancy. I only take cash.

Q: Metonyms in American football: the National Football League

ZootWikipedia has a great definition of metonymy here, but I have a more specific question. The biggest user of NFL metonyms appears to be Gregg Easterbrook, writer of the Tuesday Morning Quarterback at ESPN.COM. Can I have a list of metonyms used in American Football, particularly the National Foot...

Yeah, it's simple. You just mark things up 3% and then you still make the same money.

@Robusto: only selling your own vote? pff…

Q: Metonymy in Professional European Football (Soccer)

ZootWikipedia has a great definition of metonymy here, but I have a more specific question. Can I have a list of metnonyms used in Professional European Football (Soccer), particularly the English Premier League (EPL)? I'm relatively new to EPL fandom and want to understand more of the references u...

not worth buying if you don't have a 20-member strong sock puppet network

Should we expect a "metonyms in professional American basket" too?

Actually, I have swarms of robot members on ESE. I could bring the site to its knees with a DDOS attack, but what's the fun in that? I'd rather get your cash directly.

@kiamlaluno: those are a bit weird. I've been struggling for the last hour to think of any relating to European Football.
Bosman. That's what I was trying to remember.

My problem with those is that I Don't Do Sports™.

8:22 PM
Nor do I, apart from inexplicably having a sports channel playing on my car radio.

(I guess somebody needs the trademark sign: ™.)

@Robusto I just experienced your "hit backspace, end up at the home page" bug. Dunno how.

Like Robusto™.

Thanks, @kiamlaluno.

@Martha — Hey, I discovered that bug. Why are you giving @RegDwight the credit?

8:23 PM
I thought it was "Robusto©™".

Was it? Sorry. (editing)

It's a brand name. Just as long as you pay me money, you get to use it.
@Martha — Thank you.

It cannot be a brand name in this side of the world.

It's the same problem I have with novels where multiple characters' names start with the same letter. I have the hardest time keeping track of which one's which, even if the characters themselves are completely different.

@I dunno. I don't think @nohat gave us enough time. I don't like people sneaking in at the end like that. It's not proper.

8:27 PM
There are still 21 days, before voting is done.

(And of course I have the hardest time associating the words "right" and "left" with the appropriate directions.)
@kiamlaluno, I thought voting was 7 days? For any given site, that is?
Correction: the elections page says voting ends in 8 days.

I like to multiply by three. After all my birthdate contains two of those numbers.
(I mean multiples of three.)

@Rhodri and @FX_, y'all need to change your avatars. You look much too similar.

@Martha: friends of mine once observed that the "good guys" in Guy Gavriel Kay's "Tigana" had names beginning with A, B, C,...
@Martha: nonsense. @FX_ is a well-rounded character, while I'm a square.
(with or without a horn, if you've been watching The Aristocats :-)

@Rhodri: Eh. Details.

8:34 PM
(Details make the difference!)

I don't notice the difference between Robusto & RegDwight, and you expect me to remember which of you is a round collection of random pixels, and which of you is a square collection of random pixels?

If you didn't notice the difference between them, how is our changing our avatars going to help?

Once again with the details.
And logic.
Pshaw.

Anyway, time to grow gnomes. I've changed my mind twice about how to implement something in the last half hour, which is as good an indication as any that I'm too tired to work.
See you later.

See you, have fun with the gnomes.

8:39 PM
I was going to say "have fun with grow".
Is "grow" the first name, and "gnomes" the last name?

I refuse to log onto yet another site just to change the nice picture
if stackexchange were to host the functionality, I'd probably do it

I set my gravatar so long ago, I don't even remember how it worked, and whether I had to log in anywhere. (It's associated with my real-world yahoo mail account, which I log into daily anyway.)
(That's real-world as opposed to SCA mail account.)
@FX_, I favorited your Old English writing question. Somebody nudge me to post an answer after I get home to my books.
All right, you lot are not sufficiently entertaining, I suppose I ought to go do some actual work.

9:38 PM
@Martha great, I look forward to reading that
