@MoreAnonymous particle physics is somewhat overvalued currently. its very impressive and has had very fruitful history but is increasingly hitting a "wall" or "desert" in multiple ways. LHC is a powerful/ extremely expensive instrument now mostly obsolete. agree with Hossenfelder critique that FCC likely has quixotic aspect. simulations will be increasingly critical. there is some precedent/ tie-in with nuclear explosion research and protein folding.
@vzn "there is some precedent/ tie-in with ... protein folding" Positive or negative? I am out of the loop currently, did "protein folding" hit a "wall" or "desert" in a certain way?
@ThomasKlimpel protein folding simulations connected to deep QM analysis + ML are increasingly successful. Google/ Deepmind are attacking it with at times striking success etc. ... current physics culture at large is somewhat tentative/ avoidant of simulations...
Very good, I see now. The connection was that today, simulation is critical for nuclear explosion research and protein folding. That was also my impression.
