It seems that there is a new room for collecting HNQs‌. I learned about it here: How to determine if a question has ever been a “hot network question”?

Although for some reason I do not see this question there: Good “casual” advanced math books.

Hi. How do we know if a mathematical question belongs on Math.SE, or Math Overflow?
Any guidelines?

@299792458 Maybe looking at the help center of each site - to see what is on-topic where.
Maybe some of the questions on MathOverflow Meta tagged might be useful.
But whichever site you choose, it is good to follow the guidelines on asking questions: How to ask a good question. (Mathematics) and How to write a good MathOverflow question?

@MartinSleziak Thanks for the very helpful post links.
I figured my question wasn't Maths research-level, so I posted it on Math.SE instead of here.
Anyhow, I am dropping a link here, in case anyone thinks it is worth their time:

Q: Is this physical model exactly solvable?

299792458There exists a popular model in the Physics of heavy quark bound systems, called the Cornell potential model, in which the inter-quark potential is modeled to vary with radial distance $r$ as $$V(r) = - \frac{\kappa}{r} + \frac{r}{a^2}$$ The mathematical problem is reduced to solving the radi...

Also, I have starred your post links, for future reference.
Thanks :)

@ToddTrimble As I see that you are online (and also here in chat), I'll just ask whether the moderators happen to know more about the planned customization of the design for MO.
The last what I heard about this issue are messages from Catija here in chat - they can be seen among starred messages‌. But since mods have private rooms and other possibilities to communicate with SE, it's possible that you have talked about this elsewhere.

Hi Martin. I don't know anything about it. I can ask the other moderators if they've heard anything.

Thanks. I was just curious.
I am not sure to which extent it really is an issue.
For a long time, I haven't seen anything related to this other than the few messages in chat.
And with the exception of Federico Poloni's message, it was me who asked about this - and I do not really count myself as a MO user.
It is possible that the users who care about this are satisfied with the userscript/css solution provided by Denis Nardin: How can I customize site in my browser to get “old feel” look of MathOverflow?

I believe the accepted answer to mathoverflow.net/q/278782/114668 is wrong -- is there a protocol to follow here? I just posted what I believe to be the correct answer.
