@vzn You mean the dip between August and September or over the entire 300 days? It's worth remembering that these are specific users, so while some users may decline, others will rise to overtake them... It's unlikely you can judge the activities of the entire network by those specific users... particularly considering how much they're pinged depends on the others around them. I don't have any control how much others ping me. ;)

math.stackexchange.com/questions/3051220/… question is migrated to MSE. There is no @DenisNardin or @arunDebray there... Is there any way to communicate from there?

@PraphullaKoushik By "communicate from there" you mean to reply to their comment (which they left before migration)?

@MartinSleziak yes yes..

As you can see, Denis Nardin is pingable in this room. Both of them are pingble in Homotopy theory room and Arun Debray is pingable also in the Geometry+Physics room.
Since they commented on that thread, I suppose they probably will not object too much if you alert them to the fact that the question has been migrated in chat.
Of course, it's up to them whether or not they decide to create an account on the Mathematics site - but if they do, it's question of one or two clicks.

I think the link you have given some other links... "Denis is pingable in this room" that link is not working.. none of the links are working...

The link I gave when I said that Denis Nardin is pingable in this room is this: chat.stackexchange.com/rooms/pingable/9369 It is supposed to give you list of the users who can be directly pinged. (But you can check as well by typing @ and the first letter of the username.)
When I go to that link, I get a list which starts like this: [[131753,"user 170039",1545225305,1543158954],[142539,"Arrow",1545337860,1540472162], ...

yes that link says some numbers... ok ok :) I got it

@Catija ok, however the graph is simply high activity users and the decline is over all high activity users which just suggests to me chat activity might be down overall, or maybe fewer new users etc, have suspected that lately as subjective observation, but then saw these statistics. eg wondering if SE changed/ decreased the chat room advertising on main pages & graph reveals impact.

@vzn I'll bet that the snapshot of the data was taken during September, i.e. that's not a full month's worth of pings there at the end.

ah ok thx that would be the most rational explanation. maybe false alarm. however do think it would be interesting to look at overall chat activity... not an easy way to track that apparently... sometimes annoys me how SE doesnt seem to take the chat rooms very seriously sometimes... surely has something to do with it being the brainchild of the exCEO...
