Q: implications of Riemann Hypothesis variants in TCS

vznthe over ~1½ century old Riemann Hypothesis has deep implications in mathematics and a large edifice of math theory is now proved conditionally on it and numerous variants. recently came across a reference to a conditional result in TCS based on the Riemann hypothesis. wondering, what are t...

@vzn I do not know which list you are talking about. Anyway, mathunion.org/general/prizes/fields/prizewinners is the official list (compiled by the organization that awards it). It says that Perelman rejected it. It does not say this for Grothendieck.

some media accounts literally say he rejected the prize. dont know why but can see why there may be some confusion.
want to know the specifics of "acceptance" myself. find it interesting. what constitutes "acceptance"? the prizes have pages of rules/ committees. do they have any rules on "acceptance"? or maybe they assumed the prize would always be accepted lol
If you mean heidelberg-laureate-forum.org/blog/awards/fields-medal by the list, then I would strongly assume that the "cross" you mention, which is technically a dagger, is there to signal the person is deceased. This is a common usage of this symbol; as far as I could see he is the only deceased person on that incomplete list.

ok makes sense thx
right, a dagger, how appropriate for grothendieck :p
anyway maybe there is something more specific about his personal attitude wrt the Fields medal in his autobiography or other biographies, have not read that deeply (yet).
" In contrast to his acceptance of the 1966 Fields Medal, Grothendieck declined the Crafoord Prize in 1988. "

biographies do say he refused to go to the Fields ceremony in some protest.

Yes!
But because he did not want to go to USSR.
The protest was of a general political nature. Not a scientific one.
vzn
vzn
it is not all clearcut. accounts differ/ even contradict each other. that is the way with some of his life. it is not straightforward.
he has mounted massive "scientific protests" in his later life.
So what?
He refused a prize later as I said.
vzn
vzn
he protested the legitimacy of mathematical committees/ societies on some grounds (somewhat similarly to perelman). eg those that administer awards.
Sorry I have no time to continue this. See you another time.

lol whatever bye
