Q: `\eqref` across posts

LSpiceWhile editing @Ruy's answer to How can one define a kind of "determinant" on a reduced group $C^*$ algebra?, I tried to insert an \eqref to the equation labelled star3 in the main post. Although equation labels seem to be required to be unique within a page (because they are implemented by ancho...

I might be wrong, but my guess would be that begingroup and endgroup inserted in each post (and comment) limits both macros and equation labels. The posts on Stack Exchange sites used to be without begingroup..endgroup, but this was changed in January 2019. See also: The scope of \newcommand is the entire page and The scope of \newcommand changed. — Martin Sleziak 15 mins ago
There are also some posts on this meta related to the change mentioned in the previous comment: MathJax \newcommand appears persistent across the whole page and Problem with posts and comments relying on macros defined elsewhere. — Martin Sleziak 15 mins ago
@MartinSleziak, thanks for your thoughts 1 2! There are two differences I can see: (1) as far as I can tell, even in regular LaTeX (just tested on my machine) equation labels are global, not constrained by groups; and (2) unlike macros, which should be transparently replaceable by their expansions, equation labels really do change the rendered document (in MathJax, leaving anchors). — LSpice 12 mins ago
@MartinSleziak, also, unlike macros, where it is sensible for different users to use the same macro with different meanings, the current implementation makes it impossible (or at least a violation of some well-formed HTML condition) for different users to use the same equation labels on the same page. — LSpice 12 mins ago

A: `\eqref` across posts

Martin SleziakThis is intended just as a test - to see whether begingroup and endgroup influences only macros, or it has impact also on labels. (As discussed in the comments.) It will be left here for experimenting - but I plan to deleted it later. $$x^2+y^2=z^2\label{eq1}\tag{1}$$ We have equation $\eqref{eq...

I have posted (as a test) an answer containing endgroup and begingroup. So it seems that while begingroup and endgroup are relevant for macros, they do not influence labels. Feel free to do more experiments with that answer if you wish. (I guess it should be deleted later, but leaving it here for a bit probably does not do any harm.) If you wish to clean-up the comments here, feel free to ping me in chat and let me know, that I can deleted my comments. — Martin Sleziak 8 secs ago
