@MarkusvonBroady the OP says it's not because "they don't keep the circular length of the layers and only unfold the cylinder with edges orthogonal to the resulting planes." At that point it stopped being clear to me what they really want.

@MartyFouts as far as I understand: unbend without UV stretching (of course if the two planes are connected, the connecting faces have to stretch).
