Hmmm.... looks fine to me. Try uninstaling and reinstalling blender. If that doesn't work, just try uninstalling and reinstalling windows. If even that doesn't work, just buy a new computer.
(on a more serious note, I learned to REALLY appreciate that Blender doesn't need to be installed, back when I did a course on 3D and spent about 2 days trying to get 3Ds Max to install without throwing a bazillion errors).

well spring was kind of disappointing. The scenery was impressive. The dog looked good and was the hero. Other then that, meh.
Spring plot summery: Girl gets magical stick thing from a weird creature to bring spring to the valley. Cliff hanger is when she drops the stick. The stick thing takes a long bouncing, tumbling path down to the edge of a cliff. Dog saves the day (its a stick after all), and spring comes.

come back next week to read the plot summery for Elephants dream. :)

I mean, the plot was never really the main point anyway, was it
I think the point was more of, LOOK HOW AWESOME 2.8 RENDERS CAN LOOK!

I was disappointed as well
I think they could do much better
@gandalf3 in Elephants, or Spring?
All of them

At least Sintel had something interesting going on story wise

I think thats why everyone likes it

BBB was cool too
then NO. if you do not have a story you do not have a film, no matter the length.

Make a tech demo instead
that is true.
They have a story, but it's second priority to the visuals
23:13
not so much for me. They are called "Open Movies" moves have need a story. Sure the visuals are good. (but they sure better be, this is blender's look what we can do thing for the next two years.)
@David But blender is a tool for making visuals, not for making stories
We have seen this in plenty of movies, that no matter how much you spend on VFX, you can't make up for bad writing. (cough, Michael Bay, cough)
So I can understand if they choose to make pretty visuals at the expense of the story
not necessarily that his movies are bad, but he does love explosions
So stuff that's really outlandish (like washing machine tornadoes) is good if they can pull it off visually
23:16
what I think is funny is how when people are talking about the open movies they list Sintel, Big Buck Bunny, Cosmos Laundromat (we'll see if spring makes that list) Nowhere does Tears of steal get mentioned.
@David I haven't noticed that really
I've probably seen Sintel and BBB referenced the most, but I'm pretty sure I've seen TOS used in random places as well
Moreso than cosmos laundromat, though probably because of age
@gandalf3 not what I meant. no you can have a perfectly "normal" story, like spring (just a girl, her dog, and the valley.) and make that feel. This just did not have that story, or emotion. The part where she loses the stick, kinda felt forced. I think the story could of been just as good without that "conflict".
I don't even remember cosmos laundromat that much, aside from it having a suicidal sheep.
@gandalf3 ok yah that is true, I too have not seen much of cosmos laundromat around.
Nobody talks about Elephants dream, unless its about how weird it is.
23:21
@David I agree the better the story, the better the movie. But I'm saying that the story takes second priority to the visuals when it comes to the open movies, since the point is to show off blender.
So they're going to focus on coming up with something with which they can show off blender, and make a story out of that
Rather than the other way around
Which makes keeping a compelling story more challenging than it would be already
But it's okay, since we're here (or at least I am) for the visuals anyway
@gandalf3 I see your point, but keep in mind that the reason you are still hearing about BBB and Sintel is that they had a solid story that went with pretty good visuals as well. Having a good story makes people want to share and talk about your open movie.
The goal of an open movie may be to show what blender is capable of, but its target audience is not experienced blender users. Its target audience (I think) is people who might not even know about blender, or not think of it as a "real" program.
Since we all know that if you don't dump $1k on a piece of software, you aren't a "professional."

I don't need to feel emotionally invested in a story to think "holy cow that frost is awesome" Or ":O cloud creatures :O volumetrics :O".
@X-27thefluffyunicorn I agree with you there, and I think that's partly why they do try and make a story, rather than merely a tech demo
I might just go watch Sintel again....
poor scales though :(
BBB had such a happy ending.
The only thing that actually bothered me about Spring's story is the powers of the bone the girl gets from the creature. Like, it controls the creatures?? One of them gave it to her though? So are they just following her? But then one of them almost steps on them...?
(and is stopped by the bone!?)
@gandalf3 The other reasons being to give blender "real-world experience", to see if it works well in an actual production workflow

I'd argue the visuals are underwhelming as well
