I also tried:
![bla bla description](asdaksdh.jpg)
I also tried this but no luck either:
<img src="http://example.com/sample.png" width="100" height="100">
@Vader Thanks Vader, but I couldn't get that one to work either. Does it not work with images on Google Drive? Should I upload my pics to some other host or something?
@ThomBlairIII Upload them via the image uploader/embedder
When I go to leave a comment on a question, I don't see any way to do that...is my reputation too low for that privilege?
@Vader What happens if we start a question and you and I just talk back and forth thousands of times...do we get thousands of rep points? XD I guess we just get booted out?
JK!
:P
I think you need 50 rep to leave a comment
you can always comment on your own Q/As
we only get points if someone votes on your Q/A
00:12
oh god, so CLOSE!
:D
Yeah
Ok, time for super reputation increase time...this is like jumping on the turtle in Super Mario Bros. to get a thousand lives!!
:D
I never played that game but okay
getting rep is hard b/c there are so few questions to answer
Well gosh, I have a jillion real questions to ask, but I feel like a pain in the butt to ask them all!
nah, you can ask as many as you want.
00:16
Is this a match made in heaven?!?
? :D
Well, ok, how do you as the answerer get points?
upvote one question is 10 points
accepted answer is 15 points
upvoted questions is 5 points
those are the ways you get points
Oh, ok...can I accept multiple answers?
Seems like I should be able to if there are multiple correct ways to solve the issue.
Like on my last question, several people gave correct answers I think, but I haven't had time to check through them all yet. I couldn't get your answer to work yet.
I don't want to get charged with racketeering or rep points scamming, but I seriously could ask a ton of real questions...
But then I don't want to have everyone just say RTFM...which hopefully they won't because I the manual is so hard to understand so often it doesn't help me much.
So why don't you just go around reading all the questions and upvoting good ones? Is that considered bad?
Or have you read them all already?
We need to find the Force on solving this one!
@Vader I was 4 years old when Star Wars came out and I saw it 7 times in the theater, so I still remember parts that are now lost due to the archival problems they had with the original film reel.
@ThomBlairIII than do so, you will not get blamed for it
@ThomBlairIII I only saw it 2 times
Actually, there are very few parts that were lost that were of any interest, except there was one scene on Mos Isley right after the canteena scene where Jabba the Hut peeks out from around a corner to watch Luke & them leave the canteena, but you never knew who the figure was until you read the book and found out it was Jabba before he got fat.
Did you see it when it came out? How old are you? I can't figure it out if you saw Star Wars in the theater but didn't play Super Mario Bros?
00:33
I didn't see it in theater
dvd
i too live in VA
Oh really? Where?
Fairfax
Oh yeah, up by DC. Are you going to school there?
00:36
around yeah
So what are your specialities with graphics, blender & otherwise?
I like modeling the most
Nice. Did you make that pic of Vader?
Do you have your models/artwork online anywhere?
I have stuff, just not organized in a portfolio sense, most of it is scattered about my dropbox
my avatar is from the internet, I just cropped it
Oh, ok.
I saw your picture of the coins stacked and that was neat...did you model that?
When you were discussing the bitcoins with someone...
00:42
I think David did that
His bitcoins were pretty neat too. What are some of your favorite things you've made?
an airplane
Actually, I have a real question that maybe you can answer about models...I'll go ask it and invite you to answer it...it's about how to get a .MTL texture file onto an .OBJ file if it doesn't do it automatically. Do you know how to do that?
obj only allows a single texture map
Hmm, well, I don't know much at all about objs, but the ones I've downloaded from the internet often come with .MTL files that seem to have all kinds of colors etc in them, but when I import the obj, the .MTL colors etc don't always show up for some reason.
00:47
yeah blender does not read the textures from the mtl
you need to manually add them back into the model onc imported
ok, I'll go ask the question and get more details there, ok?
sure
make sure it is clear though
I will take a look
Ok, cool.

Q: How can I get a .MTL file to show on an .OBJ model I imported?

Thom Blair IIII've downloaded & imported several .OBJ models into Blender but they don't always import with the textures automatically in place, even though the model came with them. Here's an example: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_yQeQQ8ImENWWYyb0oxYWZMVjQ/edit?usp=sharing

This work fine for me in BI
cycles, not so much
Sorry, I had to delete it because I just realized I totally messed up again...none of my models import with textures already showing on them in texture mode.
Or should I undelete it?
I would just leave, it. there is not way to do this at import time
you need to do it manually
I just undeleted it, because I saw your answer about BI and cycles. You should leave an answer and I'll accept it.
okay
01:07
I just tried it and you're right, BI does have them import automatically, but cycles doesn't. ..kind of a pain.
I never use BI since I'm trying to learn cycles since BI is being deprecated in future releases.

Q: How to show an object in 3D View as Bright Blue

DarenWThis isn't about the final render using cycles, but in the 3D view when I'm in Object or Edit (or any) mode. I want to make one object in a tangled mess of object stand out as bright blue (or any color). I'm usually working with wireframe, solid, or texture view modes. I guessed that in the...

Q: Does blender support what I could best describe as "Occlusion Planes"?

user2554615Is there a way that i can have a plane set to not render anything beyond it? What i am trying to do is create custom UI graphics for a java application. I find that blender produces some VERY nice looking UIs with very little effort (relatively speaking). I am getting stuck on making a switch th...

I think I made my first intelligent, useful answer to a question! What does anybody think?
http://blender.stackexchange.com/questions/7792/how-to-show-an-object-in-the-3d-view-as-a-specific-color/7800#7800

It'd be great to be able to give something back to the site!
:)
12:28
@iKlsR Can someone accept two answers to a question? For example, on this question
http://blender.stackexchange.com/questions/7792/how-to-show-an-object-in-the-3d-view-as-a-specific-color/7800#7800
you answered about better viewing in Object mode, but then I added a way to change view coloring in Edit mode. Should we combine the answers or is it not an issue?
@iKlsR I guess it's not really an issue...any reader will just see the other answers and can figure it out for themselves.

Q: zoom lags using linux (gentoo)

user2802I'm running Blender as a binary and when I zoom in or out on an object it has a lot of lag. The zoom works using the roller ball of the mouse. 4 gigs of ram. I'm using the binary because the install does not work. I use Blender on a Mac 1 gig or ram running Lion and using Windows 7 and all i...

@ThomBlairIII only one answer can be accepted
only the person asking the question can accept it
Your answer is not wrong but its not what OP is looking for.

Q: How can I convert a UV map back into a mesh?

SleepyMoleculeGiven blender 2.7 is going to support sewing it makes sense to be able to unwrap an object (clothes) in to a 2d pattern, orientate the 2d panels around the body and then 'sew' it back together to simulate how the pattern fits. Is it currently possible to convert a UV map in to a mesh?

16:41
@ThomBlairIII What @Vader said and I also agree, your answer isn't really what OP asked plus that looks like a nightmare to work with.
You must be kidding? You leave your wireframe & vertices set to black?
I was overjoyed when I figured out how to change the active object's mesh to a different color when editing. I had seen other people with it in tutorials, but it took me a while to figure it out.
What about in wire frame mode?
@ThomBlairIII same with opacity changed.
it's the same default black unselected.
Oh, so what theme are you using? I'm using the default theme where everything defaults to all black, like in the pic I showed.
16:49
@ThomBlairIII I'm using my own custom theme, basically everything is flat.
Wow, that's cool looking. What do you mean by everything is flat?
I pretty much just removed the gradients from the interface
Oh, by editing Blender itself?
@ThomBlairIII the option is in the user prefs.
16:52
I have custom builds where I tweak the interface yes but not my working copy.
Neat. How good are you at changing the code?
Can you make it do new things or do you just remove things is what I mean.
@ThomBlairIII I've been tinkering with the source for close to 3 years, I can pretty much change whatever I want. I know C and python and I work in opengl.
How to sometimes tell Blender users apart. #b3d http://t.co/S1sp6UUsv6
Awesome! I don't know any of those.
Yeah, no kidding!
Are you a developer?
16:56
Blender 2.70 will officially be here this Wednesday!
4
I assume that means you are?
AWESOME!
@ThomBlairIII nope
Oh, you just follow along?
Do you code for a living?
@ThomBlairIII I'm a student. ;)
Oh, college or high school?
16:57
But yeah, I program. College, I have 1 year left.
What kind of things to you make? Any specialities?
erm.. I mostly do graphics programming.
Wish I had something to show but my projects aren't really public.
Oh, I was just going to ask...no problem.
@ThomBlairIII I have some badly written code here, github.com/iKlsR
Nothing much, was just playing with git at the time.
!! Awesome! That looks just like the sprite editor I made back when I was programming!
I used QuickBasic
That was before I'd ever even heard of even turbo pascal
17:04
haha
When 286's first came out for home use
I probably didn't know what a computer was back then.
My friend had the first data storage device for a home computer...guess what it was?
Magnetic tape? :P
Yep...A drive that recorded onto audio tape!
17:06
heheh. Probably wasn't even born yet. :P
It took SO long to load
probably just as well....didn't really miss anything..
Ah, I just wish I had some new 3d artwork to show people instead of the same old stuff from 2010 etc.
So much to do, so little time.
Is your stuff on that link you sent? I'll check it out...
nope, it's scattered all over the place.
Let me see if I can dig up some old pictures.
I have some interactive models here p3d.in/u/iKlsR
Those are cool!
17:10
Did you model all those by yourself?
Can't find anymore
Yep.
All old stuff, circa 3 years at most, haven't modeled anything in that long. X.x
Wow, that's a lot of work and really realistic looking!
Heheh. Thanks. :P
I'm a pretty terrible artist tho, I try my best.
I also have some Blender 2.49 stuff I think. youtube.com/user/iKlsR
Man, everything is all over the place. I need to archive these for science!
Well, modeling and free-hand art are very different...my Mom's a great watercolorist and so was her mom, but I stick to digital art mostly.
That's why I'm glad to finally find a 3D program for macs that works
I haven't done any 3D for close to 15 years.
17:15
:O
Hope I don't fall into a rut.

Q: How to use actuator as sensor to play animation of my character?

Gizelle P.I'm just new so I may not know the rules here. Pls do tell me if I violated something or what. So I have a character that has a walk animation. I assigned a steering actuator to it specifically path following so that they will all meet in a specific place by themselves. I also have a shake anima...

Maya first came out when I had a job doing desktop publishing, making book covers, posters, brochures, etc, & although it looked SO cool, I never had time to use it.
If you have facebook you can see my photos & paintings...it's all public

There's a piece of Andrew Price in all of us. :P
wow, that leaf blowing is awesome. maybe it looks simple to some people, but when you try to make it, you find out how hard it is to make it look realistic.
heh, it's animated by hand. ;) That's partly why the video is so short.
17:20
yeah, I figured! I bet you'd have a hard time finding a mocap file for a leaf!
XD
The lift is also neat...I'm really impressed with Blender's physics.
When 3D first came out, the simple 3D programs didn't even let you have an inside to an object.
I was so bummed because I wanted to make some cool flythroughs
Had to wait for ~15 years
Yh, Blender is what sparked my interest in graphics programming.
Always wanted to know what happened under the hood.
This is one of my favorite things I made doing 2D
https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=3972943843346&set=a.1019215561985.2003201.1273030005&type=3&theater
Yogi!
I made all those bevel look 3D by hand...photoshop didn't have a bevel tool back then
Yep!
@ThomBlairIII looks depressing. :S
17:23
Depressing? why?
oh, looks really nice
@ThomBlairIII reminds me of a funeral program.
A funeral program? Oh, you mean like if someone had died they'd have a thing they hand out at the funeral?
We don't have those here, at least not in any churches I've been to
@ThomBlairIII oh, it resembles those out here
no offense btw
17:26
Wow, good to know for a cross-culture marketing perspective
I've lived all over america and I don't think I've ever seen anything like that at a funeral and my Dad's a minister so he's done countless funerals.
Every weekend ...a wedding, a baptism and a funeral....
Hatch, match, dispatch...
XD
A bit of minister humor...
Something like this
Ah ha, interesting...
Now I see why you don't like it, or it brings up the wrong memories...
The orgainzation I worked for was the Transcendental Meditation movement and they had a very bright, cheerful, flowery aesthetic.
:)
Do you have a mac or pc?
Solitary looks really real...nice work.
It's amazing what blender can do with textures etc
I was stunned at how easy it was to make this with just a picture of a stump:
https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10202938300039825&set=a.10202938299959823.1073741832.1273030005&type=3&theater
Did you have to model the lichens or much of the branch?
17:43
@ThomBlairIII Was afk
erm
Hey, have you seen this yet? Looks pretty awesome
http://www.gizmag.com/artemis-pcell-mobile-network/31191/?utm_source=Gizmag+Subscribers&utm_campaign=4e519eca3c-UA-2235360-4&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_65b67362bd-4e519eca3c-91291261
I'll have to read up on it
Just realized I had a high res
Man, you find gems everyday
This image ^ was my first render, as in the first piece of work I considered done.
That's all really cool...nice work. It always amazes me when someone says the shape of the tree isn't really what a tree looks like to me, but I guess it's just what different people are used to. Maybe they grew up around different trees.
That too.
The towers are cool...the wooden cup was the first thing I ever made.
I was surprised to find that in China and Russia, at least the parts I went to mostly, they didn't have any trees like I'm used to in the US...they only had these very thin anemic looking trees
Maybe that's why the guy said your tree looked wierd.
17:53
@iKlsR was this done i 3ds?
Climate I guess, I know trees to have thick bases
@Vader yep
you have sinned
/ban @iKlsR
:D
nuuuu
I love 3ds max
really?
I hate Blender!
17:54
I hate its ui
if anything I would use sofitmage
nah, it's fun
Softimage is even worse, it had one of the worst uis next to lightwave
its funny how you can tell the app by just the viewport shading
the dozer looks good though
@Vader Yh, true. Tho I could configure Blender to have that hard look
yeah blender's viewport leaves some to desire
that scar model looks good, Is that from a cgcookies tut?
@Vader not that I recall. I think that tut was a M16?
I wanted a scar becuase I had run one in a cod match that day.. too cool.
Scar-H
17:58
yeah its a nice model
@Vader It was never finished.
looks pretty done to me
You will also notice that it has ejection slots on both sides. XD
I wanted a scope on it and a grip
argh
@iKlsR lol, thats pretty cool nontheless
