Q: Adding hair particles in particle edit mode

AngelaSo I set my emission number to zero and decided to add my eyelashes manually. In the "add" section, I have the radius way down and the count at one, but when ever I try to add a hair, it doesn't apply where I want it to. I did this with the eyebrows and it worked just fine. Not sure what's going ...

@gandalf3 @CharlesL @adhi Flags are not for technical inaccuracies, that's what down-votes are for. :-)
@DantheMan what about crappy "answers" that don't really have any content pertaining to the question?

Q: Testing identity of two objects

supergraWhat is the proper way to test the identity of two objects? Usually I do this: if ob1 == ob2: Or if the pointers have become outdated, it may be safer to do: if ob1.name == ob2.name In Python, you're taught that equality is not the same as identity. Theoretically, there can be two indistin...

@CharlesL If there so bad that they are useless I guess the low quality flag would be ok
@qwertie Where to draw the line then?
@gandalf3 When They are so low quality that a edit cant fix them and the question will never help anyone
@qwertie hrmm..

A: How important is a GPU if I'm not doing cycles rendering?

Yash AggarwalOn-board Graphic cards are not much powerful.Its just one simple fact,if you want fast renders you will need a good graphic card. Rendering time also depends on material.Suppose if you use SSS, you "will" need a graphic card.

IMHO it's pretty border line
@gandalf3 well it has some good answers

Q: Can I influence the direction in which fire and smoke dissolve?

Oliver GiesenI know how to control fire/smoke particles but flames and smoke always appear to be drifting upwards (i.e. positive global Z-axis) regardless. I'm actually trying to create a sun-like fireball, i.e. I want the flames to emit outwards in all directions from a sphere. My particles are already doin...

@qwertie I meant just that answer specifically
The question seems fine
@gandalf3 ohh
that answer is bad
Flag declined though :/
and i don't think editing can fix it

questions like this should be closed
01:00
@DantheMan I thought "content problems" referred to inaccuracies.
@qwertie Like which?
This one seems okay to me
@gandalf3 it is unlikely that this question will ever help anyone
@qwertie .. I don't know, I think it might be useful
@qwertie What is it that makes you think that?
@gandalf3 well there are more than 5 tools in minecraft
and the wiki has a full page for every tool

What is?

I fail to see how an external wiki is related..
@qwertie How is that related to this?
I was just givving a example of a low quality question
@qwertie Okay
Though the close reason doesn't really seem valid to me. Maybe "not constructive?"
I still think this question is fine

Q: How can particles be emitted from particles?

stackerIn a scene with two particle system configured as boids and boids brain set to fight, one swarm attacks the other. Q: Can the orientation of objects emitted from a particle system be controlled?

stackerWhen emitting objects from a particle system (boids) the objects appear with random orientation, while they move it would look much nicer if e.g. a spacecrafts nose would point into flight direction.

Q: How can I align an object in a discrete sense to the camera orientation?

jacobsdI don't want to move the camera to follow an object, but I would like to place an object using the currently selected camera. The obvious use case is position text. 2D text could obviously be added in another tool (like Gimp). Other use cases could be aligning an object perpendicular to the came...

Q: Paint particles from texture

wyyI have black-white image which I use to generate particles and now I want to make particle colors similar to the original image (3). So in the end where should be some particles in color blue, some in green etc.. Is it possible to do this?

@CharlesL @gandalf3 @79787 I can see that it's not that helpful of a question, but the last 2 sentences are slightly informative.
However, the question is pretty vague and therefore naturally gets a vague answer.
The "it is very low quality" flagging option is only used for things that pretty much illegible.
Just use downvotes to specify that it's not that good of an answer.

@iKlsR Hehe thank ya
@iKlsR Probably from the new year.

Q: How to save print-quality screenshots of a matcaped model?

Peter VaroMy question may look somewhat similar for the ones already answered on different forums "how to capture high resolution screenshots of blender"; although I don't care about the user interface at all! What I want is only to create a screenshot of the 3D View itself with only a single object, that...

16:29
Hi
hey :)
@TimTimmy do you have java installed?
Ugh!
@CharlesL Yeah
which version?
16:30
@CharlesL A web developper told me to so this:
You need to have the Java runtime installed on the computer you're trying to run MyEclipse on, and you must be running it from the F:\ drive.

Use this program to automatically install Java: http://ninite.com/java/ninite.exe
\:|
use the official release of java
3rd party stuff rarely works
@CharlesL It worked yesterday!
dunno
did you install anything else java related?
@CharlesL Hmm... only a video converter
...
try reinstalling java
:P
that's what I always do in situations like that
16:34
@CharlesL Umm... The web developper spent an hour editing the java source files, so I don't think that's a good idea...
oh :P
maybe not then
@CharlesL I pay him to teach me how to make this 3d modelling site ;)
ah
so your using java backend?
@CharlesL I have no idea :( He lives in the Netherlands: clesoft.nl
@TimTimmy well, if your learning java, that's a pretty good indication that your going to use it back end.
I don't like Java.
:P
this is what I'm having an issue with right now though (Objective-C):
16:47
@CharlesL Cool. Bye!
17:06
@CharlesL hey, thanks again for your answer -- but it seems to me, that your 4K image link doesn't work :)
17:20
@PeterVaro oops: i uploaded the wrong image :P
here's the 4k version
I'll update my answer
17:31
it's okay, np -- thanks
umm @CharlesL it still doesn't working -- probably your db is locked?
@PeterVaro does this work:
TO IMGUR :P
good, imgur keeps it in 4k
@CharlesL indeed!
@CharlesL ಠ_ಠ
what?
@CharlesL I want to strangle you.
17:44
why?
I need that mac.
Where do you live? ಠ_ಠ
dude, it's an OpenGL render. A ten year old computer could do that :D
@iKlsR on the moon
@CharlesL nah not talking abt that.. lulz
I just want a mac to look at.
@iKlsR oooohh... you mean the fact that I'm running two xcode projects, rendering in blender and have a browser with 10 tabs open.
>:D
@CharlesL My pc packs a lot more punch than that. :P
I just want one to see what the fuss is all about.
17:46
HAHA
Don't try to develop with Xcode. It sucks.
@CharlesL My chrome has 45 tabs, firefox has 20 something, Blender and Maya running, I have League of Legends on my second monitor and I'm buffering like 3 videos right now.
I've spent the last 3 days trying to figure out how to make a button change a label from an external class.
Also building Blender and firefox nightly. :P
@CharlesL heh.
and i'm still trying to figure it out
why do you have 45 tabs?
@CharlesL I don't close them.
17:48
oh
I oft open links to read later, don't want to clutter my bookmarks with temp stuff.
I can't keep track of what's open :P
I have an article that I should have read from november.
around tab 17..
:O
I just lose interest in a tab after a certain point.
Yh that happens sometimes too.
17:50
you need a bigger monitor.
@iKlsR you answer to my question is super cool -- but keep me wondering, if that should be answered to a different question: Is there a way to use custom matcaps?" if you think, I can ask that question, and you can place your answer there
chrome is like half my screen XD
I know this feature will be added soon to Blender
actually, with that many tabs, you need an entire IMAX screen.
but until then this should be a great "patch"

Q: Can matcaps be used for all objects and not just selected objects?

RolandiXorI like to use Matcaps as they greatly improve the viewport performance and are good when editing to get an idea of what the object looks like textured. However, if I have multiple objects, only the selected object shows the Matcap. Is it possible to use Matcaps for all objects, and not just the ...

ohh :)
@PeterVaro Not exactly the same but they both work. I was going to link to that but I thought a more updated answer would do.
actually it is perfect as it is right now :)
do you guys have any idea about why my zoom hotkey in user settings doesn't want to be changed?
I mean, I changed that to mouse-wheel (zoom in and out)
and later (a few days ago) it automatically changed back
so my Trackpad is the dolly view and pinching is the zooming
although my settings looks the same
but I can't get back my old zooming by scrolling gesture
did you change the settings and press (Ctrl-U) to save it as user defualts?
@PeterVaro Perhaps you reset this somehow? Did you save the new settings as default?
17:57
yes I did
Strange.. not sure.
this is what I have now:
does it needs to be.. I don't know.. Wheel Out ?
@CharlesL answer before I do.
@PeterVaro Err, you're using a laptop?
@iKlsR answer what?
18:00
I'm using an apple trackpad and a wacom intuos board at the same time

Q: Blender Object keeps moving back to 0,0,0

tomtomy8I am new to blender, and I have just created a island using ANT landscapes, and I have build two boats for this. (well technically I'm using a Macbook Pro -- but as a desktop machine :))
@Sintel @CharlesL
ah
done
@PeterVaro I only use my tablet when sculpting in Blender and i've never used pinching etc. I use a modifier and drag so not exactly sure.
18:03
I don't want to use pinching either :)
I want to use simple scrolling
@PeterVaro hmm... I dunno
I always use Emulate 3 button mouse
then I can use Ctrl-Alt-Left Click to zoom
me too..
wow, that is a long combo
@PeterVaro pretty sure there are some questions on the site that should cover this.
Do a search for laptop
I will, thanks!

A: Zoom in and out without a mouse wheel

Jonathan WilliamsonThe simplest way to zoom with a tablet, in my opinion, is to use Emulate 3 Button Mouse from File > User Preferences > Input. This allows you to zoom in and out with ALT+CTRL + LMB drag. Then you can also orbit with ALT + LMB drag. And you can pan with SHIFT+ALT + LMB drag.

18:07
^^
umm.. my "Enable 3 Button Mouse' is unavailable, it is gray.
oh, yes, because I changed selecting to left click
instead of right
The site is filled with little gems. Just 10 minutes of browsing daily and you will pick up a lot.

@iKlsR @PeterVaro this one is one of my favorites: blender.stackexchange.com/a/1310/20

Q: Unwrap Seperate Meshes

user1468I have so many books models to texture. Texturing them one by one will be a pain. Can Blender unwrap two (or more) seperate meshes and make them share the same UV grid?
