Q: Create a cylinder linking two points (python)

MartinI want to position a cylinder such that the centre of one end is at (x0, y0, z0) and the centre of the other end is at (x1, y1, z1). Using the Python API. The intention is that there will be two spheres centred at those coordinates and the cylinder will act as a spoke or connector between them. ...

@iKlsR Sure. I'll try that in the future.. How do you ping a mod?
@gandalf3 You just did.
@iKlsR oh
There isn't any way to ping any mod?
Should I just ping every mod and hope one of them is around?
@gandalf3 You can only ping someone who has been to chat before.
I'm usually here so ask me.
@iKlsR okay
Thanks

Q: Having Sculpting Issues

user2016I have just recently sculpted a Mesh Helmet model and I am needing it to upload towards another program. But when I switch the mesh into edit mode it turns into its original starting cube. When I go into sculpt mode again it returns to my helmet. I didn't think it was an issue but when I exported...

Q: Issue Compiling Blender on OS 10.9.1

lifeafter2amSorry if this has been answered a zillion times. I've searched and couldn't find a solution that worked for me (although it seems that others have this issue generally). Basically I am trying to compile blender on my new Mac. I am no stranger to this process coming from Linux, but am running int...

@gandalf3 Art thou there>
@TimTimmy Yep
@TimTimmy You don't? ;)
@gandalf3 Nice hat :)
Thanks
@TimTimmy What about it?
08:12
Invencente's blend file will work if you click "back to previous"?
I don't see any issue
@TimTimmy ikr
Hmmm...
Oh well, seems he fixed it anyway
With a perfectly fine workaround, though you shouldn't need a workaround..
@gandalf3 Good, thanks, it seems that he was worrying too much. I was getting worried ;)
@gandalf3 Sorry for disturbing!
Bye ;)
No problem :)

Q: How can I prevent scale bezier points without curve anchors being affected?

jacobsdI made a circle, then went into edit mode. Selected two opposing points and went to scale. I'd like to prevent the amount of curve from being affected. I just want to move points uniformly. I hope that makes sense.

Q: How do I prevent object distortion when applying a curve modifier?

jacobsdThis is the profile of the object I'd like to wrap... Here is the object's profile after being wrapped... Is it possible to prevent the distortion? @gandalf3 Hi! How easy do you think it would be able to make this?: Thanks ;)
the hardest thing would be the growing vine thing
other than that it would just be keyframing the scale of the objects
@CharlesL And this?:
Thanks ;)
@TimTimmy I'm actually not really sure how you would do that
probably a particle system with billboards
planes that point at the camera
18:56
Interesting...
that one looks pretty difficult though
And I have to pay for After Effects!
I just came up with an idea!
18:57
@CharlesL ? THx
You could use the fluid simulator, and have the text emerge from it. It would look like it was tearing then.
@CharlesL But it won't be like flames?
use a separate particle system for the glowing particles
Thanks!
Bye!
@TimTimmy use smoke sim for that

@TimTimmy Lots of particles
Though I'm not entirely sure how to hide/show the text like that
@gandalf3 @CharlesL Then why is Blender famous if it cannot do compositing so easily?
Blender is a 3d creation suite. It's primary focus isn't compositing.
That's like asking why people use hammers when they have screwdrivers.

@CharlesL Thx ;) How did Blender get the permissions to import .fbx files from Autodesk? Did they have to pay money?
A fluid sim is an interesting idea..
FBX (Filmbox) is a proprietary file format (.fbx) developed by Kaydara and now owned by Autodesk. It is used to provide interoperability between digital content creation applications. History FBX originated as a replacement file format for Kaydara's Filmbox software. Filmbox was an application for recording data from motion capture devices. Prior to 1996, Filmbox 1.0 used a file format called "FLM". The format only supported motion data, user preferences and a list of devices used in the capturing of the motion data. This data was a serialized version of the libraries (binary dump), cont...

@gandalf3 Would you be interested in...
@gandalf3 I'm creating this online 3d modelling site and I thought maybe you should be able to import .blend files?
@gandalf3 You know the logo animations I was asking about... That's for the site
@TimTimmy Neat :)
