Q: A web browser user script to block all news websites whatsoever

fightManipulatorsI feel I am getting addicted to news websites and develop psychiatric symptoms such as anxiety and depression from it, so I have created the following web browser user script to block all news websites whatsoever. if (document.querySelector('meta[name="description"]').content.includes("news")) { ...

@Harry_the_Greek if your script is working as intended but you want feedback on improvement points: post it on codereview.stackexchange.com - if you want to share a solution to a problem you've encountered here on Stack Overflow, make sure you post the question, and then provide the answer below, separately. This isn't a blog :) — Mathias R. Jessen 16 secs ago

How did that line with all those operations crammed into one unreadable blob ever pass code review?!?! I'm not going to spend 10 minutes trying to pull it apart and figure out what it actually does. — Andrew Henle 41 secs ago

"Most efficient" is almost always the wrong question to ask. What you should ask is you can make it "fast enough". Code like this are typically run a few times, so performance is often not that important. So, is 25 seconds good enough? Does it work for your data set? If the answer for both are "yes" you are done. If you want stylistic input you might consider codereview.stackexchange.comJonasH 34 secs ago

There's codereview.stackexchange.com, which you may want to get acquainted with. — deceze ♦ 59 secs ago

Q: Are developers ethically obliged to write code semantically or is it optional?

AndrejsConsider the following HTML structure (simplified for the purposes of this question): <html> <head></head> <body> <header class="top-menu"></header> <header class="brands"></header> <nav class="desktop-menu"></nav> <div class="mobile-menu"></div> <div class="banner"></div> <...

Q: Variadic pack class providing operations over types without constructing objects of those types

John IlacquaSometimes I find I want to call a function passing each of a set of types as a template parameter, but without needing to construct an object of those types. I also may want to do this in multiple places, or have a class that holds a tuple of these types, but I want to have this type list defined...

@CaptainObvious I suspect OP might not really be the author and/or maintainer of that code 😏

Q: C - looking for feedback on my connect four game

WillemI made a simple connect four terminal game in C and was wondering if I could get feedback on it. I mainly want to know where pointers could have optimised my code, and if there are any major redundancies. ( I know that the is_occupied function is one, but I added that for readability) Here is the...

@SᴀᴍOnᴇᴌᴀ Why?
@Peilonrayz title, first line: "Consider the following HTML structure (simplified for the purposes of this question):"
Can you help me understand how the indicated sentience means anything other than "here is a simplified example"?
I'm still waiting for the OP to reply to my comments... without further information, it is not clear where that code came from...
maybe the OP is the author and/or maintainer... which would be great

@SᴀᴍOnᴇᴌᴀ The author is asking a question about ethics, not about reviewing the code. How is this on-topic for code review?
@pacmaninbw I'm not sure at this point... ggorlen has a good question:
Is anyone ethically obligated to do anything? "Optional" is depends on your perspective--whose ethics are we referring to? — ggorlen 9 mins ago
@SᴀᴍOnᴇᴌᴀ I have added my 2 cents worth.

Q: String Permutation Implemention

Amal KrishnanThe objective is simple: List all possible permutations for a given a String. I looked at some implementations from popular sources. The below is from Programming Interviews Exposed: void permute(String str){ int length = str.length(); boolean[] used = new boolean[length]; StringBuffe...

@pacmaninbw - Fair point. The question was originally posed because I've been advised by a client that the first sample provided is a perfectly legitimate way of writing the code. I would argue that based on the HTML5 Spec, and current trends, that it is not. Therefore, I'm looking for advice on both how the code could be improved (hence the second sample) as well as any thoughts on whether or not developers are responsible for following the spec and adhering to such guidelines. I tried Stack Overflow but the question was booted there and I really would like the input of developers for this Q. — Andrejs 10 mins ago
sigh
It's another "proof whoever I have a disagreement with wrong" question.

@Mast Similar to yesterdays C programming question.
@SᴀᴍOnᴇᴌᴀ You're partially correct, they did not write the first version, they did write the second version.

We need to see the actual code to provide a code review. Since for legal reasons you can provide that code I suggest you delete the question. — pacmaninbw 7 mins ago
@pacmaninbw Give it 10 days and the system will take care of it itself :-)

Dimitrios DesyllasI am trying to detect me content/mime of a given Buffer/string (in order words I am trying to guess what the fidge is a given string).
