If you have working code that you want peer reviewed for improvement, your question belongs on Code Review, which was created specifically for that purpose. Please make sure to read the guidelines before posting there, as they have specific criteria that needs to be followed (as do we, which this question does not meet). — Ken White 47 secs ago

You could try to get some more detailed feedback from the Code Review Stack Exchange. For C++ basics in video form I would suggest the CppCon "Back To Basics" talks. There are quite many from different years. For getting a better grip on Thrust, I would recommend going through the Thrust examples. If you don't understand some code that you read there, feel free to post a question. — paleonix 30 secs ago

@adiga the question needs much more context before it's suited to Code Review. You could have pointed eddien at A guide to Code Review for Stack Overflow users, as some things are done differently over there - e.g. we need a good description of the purpose of the code to give context, and question titles should simply say what the code does (the question is always, "How can I improve this?"). It's important that the code works correctly; include the unit tests if possible. — Toby Speight 6 secs ago

Before you post at Code Review, make sure to read A guide to Code Review for Stack Overflow users, as some things are done differently over there - e.g. question titles should simply say what the code does, as the question is always, "How can I improve this?". Be sure that the code works correctly; include your unit tests if possible. You'll likely get some suggestions on making it more efficient, easier to read, and better tested. — Toby Speight 29 secs ago
@0stone0, this question is not appropriate for Code Review. It's missing the actual code, for a start. You should have pointed the asker at A guide to Code Review for Stack Overflow users, as some things are done differently over there - e.g. we need a good description of the purpose of the code to give context, and question titles should simply say what the code does (the question is always, "How can I improve this?"). @TobySpeight @pacmaninbw For this particular case, partly based on privileged information. I must admit it wasn't one of the most obvious ones. For how to look for it in general, you take a look at 20 of them and start seeing a pattern. For example, take a look at both that answer and this one, which is much more obvious. And then this SO screenshot, which is possibly even more obvious.

I would never have spotted that.
And I guess there's some particular meaning of "generated" in use here, different to how I generate my answers?

ChatGPT is on the loose.
Stack Overflow has been hit by thousands of bogus answers in less than a week time.

Well, Code Review can't proceed with broken code, nor with code that isn't in the question. So don't even think about posting there until it's working; then, read A guide to Code Review for Stack Overflow users, as some things are done differently over there - e.g. question titles should simply say what the code does, as the question is always, "How can I improve this?". Be sure that the code works correctly; include your unit tests if possible. You'll likely get some suggestions on making it more efficient, easier to read, and better tested. — Toby Speight 48 secs ago

Let me know if you require additional information. There is more available that's not ready for public disclosure due to the risk of detection-evasion, but I easily trust the both of you enough for that.
On Code Review, so far the damage is limited.

It even follows the be nice guidelines.

A: Temporary policy: ChatGPT is banned

SamathingamajigFor comedic/ironic purposes, I asked ChatGPT "why should stack overflow ban ai generated answers" Stack Overflow is a website for programmers and developers to ask and answer questions related to coding and computer programming. It is intended to be a resource for people who are looking for help...

Are we able to do the same banning as SO here? And should we?

I think it should be an SE wide ban.
It causes problems for the license among other things.
It also gets rep points for people that don't deserve it.

@TobySpeight Are we able to? Absolutely. Should we? Probably. I only realized the magnitude of the issue roughly 24h ago, so it's still 'fresh'.
There are significant trade-offs in whatever position is taken. Others looking for such posts does help. IME, the main thing is people being aware this happens, so when something feels funky, they know of this as a possible issue, rather than wondering "what the bleeep is this?" SO is dealing with literally thousands of posts created using ChatGPT, so we're definitely trying to make it easier to identify and deal with them. Doing that takes time. While our concentration tends to be on SO, it's known that all of SE needs a solution and there are mods from other sites participating. — Makyen 56 mins ago
Currently answers are destroyed when caught, users suspended for 7 days if no disclosure was provided.
We still need to evaluate how to deal with this long-term and this in part depends on how SE as a company/team responds.
We have begun internal discussions to identify options for addressing this issue. We’re also reading what folks write about the topic on their individual sites, as one piece of assessing the overall impact. While we evaluate, we hope that folks on network sites feel comfortable establishing per-site policies responsive to their communities’ needs. — Slate ♦ 20 hours ago

Now I know this background, perhaps this late answer was machine-generated? I just voted to delete, but would have flagged if I saw it now.

@TobySpeight Perhaps, but based on what we now know, it's either too small to say or unlikely. Either way it's not a proper answer.
You weren't the only one who thought it suspicious though :-)

Now that your question has been answered you should consider posting your code at SO's sister-site Code Review. At that forum you can expect to get excellent advice on how to improve your code, using an assortment of Ruby's many built-in methods. Answers there will also help you gain a better understanding of the Ruby way of thinking about coding problems. — Cary Swoveland 11 secs ago

@SᴀᴍOnᴇᴌᴀ I've done my best to forget any JavaScript I ever knew. One of my problems with the question is that it is really only one line of code, but that may be a compiled language knee jerk reaction.

10:56 PM
@pacmaninbw in the context of a webpage a single line of JS can be sufficient, as is the case with many of those bookmarklets/userscripts
The code can be copied (without the javascript:) and executed in the browser console
