Q: What is better - using `__dict__` or `hasattr` in Django?

UriI have a cached_property in a model in Django: @cached_property def is_active_and_valid(self): # implementation here (takes time to calculate / query the database). Now, in some cases I need to reset the value, which is done by deleting the property. Which code is better?: if ("is_active_and...

While this looks interesting, I'm concerned about debuggability in the case of a prod issue, not to mention code review when introducing a relatively unheard new library. — Somjit 37 secs ago
“ YES, the modules literally 1:1 associated with the developers. So it's easy to judge his work” this is such a remarkably bad idea, I’m not even sure how to address it to be honest. Why can’t you just assess people’s work from looking at their code reviews, or their authorship history in git? — Alexander 36 secs ago

Q: C program that splits the string based on a character

Diwas10I tried and made a program using my beginner knowledge of C to split a string into multiple sub strings. I just wondered how languages like Python and Javascript implemented the split() function. Thus, I gave it a try. It works and gives the desired output. Since I'm a beginner, I'd be really hap...

Q: Best practice for compiletime assertion that all enum values have been dealt with

UTF-8I have a constant or a variable that does not change while the code being discussed runs. The variable is of an enum type and I want to handle each case of the variable taking any value of the enum. I can make sure that I didn't forget about any value the variable can take at runtime as follows: ...

@Data4711, I had exactly your same reaction around a year ago! Check other StackExchange communities, like CodeReview, they will leave you amazed. — FLAK-ZOSO 52 secs ago
@stht55 Checking for exactness (no loss of precision) is extremely problematic. Consider FLT_MIN, as decimal text ,may be dozens of characters long. It is not specified that strtof() and friends use beyond a much smaller number of significant digits in the conversion. To achieve your exactness goal likely obliges your own crafted conversion code - an error-prone proportion. — chux - Reinstate Monica 49 secs ago

Garbage collection? Manual allocation? When it comes to allocating memory for variables, Rust goes it’s own way.

This question may be better suited for Code Review since you're asking for help improving your working code (which can be subjective and does not have a specific right or wrong answer). Stack Overflow is meant to resolve errors in non-working code. — devlin carnate 33 secs ago
