Note: I suggest posting on codereview.stackexchange.com if you want feedback on your application. But as suggested here, you should move the image creation/initialisation outside of the paintComponent method and you should use a swing timer at a fixed rate (For example 3ms per timer cycle gives you approx 33fps) rather than relying on a keypress/actionevent to update your application graphics (which you have no control over and may cause stutter/slowdown if a key is pressed and held and causes a backlog of events). — sorifiend 18 secs ago

@pacmaninbw If you know Meek's Single Transferable Vote, yes. But only combined with the SE settings (see the 'recount' option in OpaVote). It's hard to make sense of the system at first, but it starts making more and more sense after time.
It's a system for computers, don't try to calculate it by hand :-)

Q: Javascript - Why is returning an object without defining it first not working?

STVNThis works (defining an output object then fill it in): async function getSomethingFromFirebase(crit) { const output = {}; let ref = await db.collection(`collection`) .where('crit', '==', crit) .get(); ref.forEach((doc) => { let d = doc.data(); output....

@CaptainObvious Very clearly CNWAI. Would you like moderators (me) to close obviously completely off-topic questions I come across?
09:36
@Peilonrayz well, for me it would be ok, but I can't say for others. Maybe for getting a better user-opinion (IMO mor users read meta-questions than beeing present in chat) a question on meta should be the way to go.
@Peilonrayz Obviously off-topic questions? Sure.
I know different moderators have/had different approaches here.
@Heslacher Ok thanks. I posted in chat because I just want a general sense from people for how I should moderate, not to enact (or have the appearance of enacting) a site policy for the moderator team.
It's quite possible the moderator team already has an internal policy. If they have one I don't know whether it will hold up now there's been a change in the team, but might want to ask in The 1st just as well.
@Mast Thanks. Yeah, I liked when 200 closed questions.
@Mast Thanks, good point
09:51
There are a couple of dangers you'll need to keep an eye on, in my opinion. And that's probably one of the reasons some moderators didn't close as many questions as they used to: 1) The community has to be self-moderating. You simply can't take on the tasks of the entire community as moderator team. The site may become too reliant on the team and you simply don't have the time. 2) Time spent should prioritize tasks which can only be done by a moderator, for obvious reasons.
3) Only go for the immediately obvious ones. A question that is accidentally voted to close by a user doesn't always get closed. A question that gets accidentally closed by multiple users is easily overturned. A question accidentally closed by a moderator is always a bit more hassle.
This is a non-exhaustive list.
Having said that, sometimes there's actual value in a moderator surveying the queues every so often. For example, I think overruling here was an excellent action.
You're a leader now. A teacher.
Go teach us how it's done :-)

@Mast It was the most positive view I could come up with.

@DerKommissar agreed
Code review and scrum are two different things. In real agency devA creates code, devB review it and if there is any error, returns to devA. Than another review by devB/C, etc. — pavel 11 secs ago
@Heslacher Thanks for the thoughts, I'm not all that disappointed that I didn't make it. I do wish @Mast had won. It took prodding from @SimonForsberg and @DerKommissar for me to run.

@DerKommissar An extra mod has been added before... (back in the day when Janos got added as the 5th mod after the first election)
@pacmaninbw You'll get there next time. Probably @Mast too.
@SimonForsberg Exactly. And given the margin with this election was <0.1%, I personally think an extra mod should be added. Plus, it reduces the "bus factor" and means that if a mod resigns we're at normal moderation levels.
@DerKommissar I guess it's up to the new mod team.
@DerKommissar I think it is good practice to keep the number of mods odd rather than even.

@DerKommissar If a CM asks me next week to step up as an extra, I'll do it.
I've said this before and I'll say it again: I'm not going anywhere.

I'm going to be out most of the day today. I have an appointment with my cardiologist at 8:30 and I get my second Covid-19 vaccination at 11 (all time Los Angeles).
@Mast It is clear you're not going anywhere.
@Mast Don't take this the wrong way, but personally none of that matters to me. Moderator counts are flexible, and I'm pissed that it came to 0.03% (or 0.04%, depending how you do your math) and the response is "welp it is what it is"
It's an election. Isn't that how it goes?
They've made exceptions before
Additionally, this isn't exactly a "life or death" election either
I mean, if you change how the threshold is determined from dynamic to static, it changes the whole outcome too. But this is how they do it. I'm not contesting the outcome.
13:23
It's not like there are "exactly 4 spots set in stone", we've had variable numbers before.
I just want you all to know that we are listening, and are discussing this whilst we are catching up the current new moderators
4
I do remember how we did with Janos and the thought did cross my mind, but considering I'm kind-of partial to the outcome I wasn't going to be the one bringing it up.
@Malachi That's why I put it on Meta ;)
5
@Malachi Catching up the new moderators should definitely be the priority.
3
@Mast You don't have to be the one to bring it up

13:25
@DerKommissar I know, I upvoted the question myself as well
I noticed. Thank you.
Personally it wouldn't have mattered who it was, I think with a margin that close (and given the exceptional times we're living in right now), having an extra mod (or two) isn't a bad thing.

13:55
@DerKommissar That's on my shopping list, but I haven't gotten around to it. I've had an iMac and a Mini and prefer the Mini.
I have a PC with two 28" displays, and the 27" iMac, but I only use one display on the PC anymore, so I'm just gonna ditch the iMac and swap it for a Mac Mini.
You do realize that saying you don't use your second monitor, in a room called "The 2nd Monitor" is blatant heresy?
11
Hey, my iMac basically is my second monitor now-a-days lol
I literally only use the second monitor on my PC when I'm gaming, and even then, only for task manager
I have a work computer and a personal computer and both of them have second monitors. But then, I use them both primarily for coding.
My work computer has a single, large ultra-wide 34"
14:03
Yea, I'm not sure you'd want 2 of those.
That's basically a 2-in-1.
Does this code work? Then probably Code Review is a better place, as that's for improvements to (seemingly) working code, whereas SO is more for problems with non-working code. — underscore_d 19 secs ago
Yeah that's how I use it. I use PowerToys to make a few regions to pin windows, split it roughly 60/40 and also have some smaller regions for Slack and a few others
I can't say I've ever used anything like that, but I can see how that would be usable that way. Though I'm a glutton for more screen space and would be inclined to just get a bigger desk. :-)
It's 3440x1440, so I have a 1900x1440 region for Visual Studio, then a 1540x1440 region for Outlook, DataGrip, Slack has a smaller region in there, PowerShell has a smaller region on there, etc.
I mean, I'm in middle school, so it shouldn't be such a difficult task. I guess that I'm just missing some way, to make it work quicker. Also, using vectors didn't help a lot. I'll try on Code Review later, thanks for info. — amdlaihfgan 15 secs ago

StackOverflow is a nice place to ask questions regarding help with programming and algorithmic problems, but if you already have a working demo of your code, maybe try asking CodeReview (StackExchange), I've seen that they can be very helpful in finding ways to optimize people's code. — Xiddoc 42 secs ago

@TheLizzard: "Isn't this website to help people?" - yes and no. It is designed to be a repository of answers to technical questions. It is not designed to be a general-purpose code review platform. There's a separate site for that. I will usually point out bad practices if the bad practice contributed to the problem being asked about, but in this specific case it would just add noise to the answer. — Bryan Oakley 55 secs ago
