Q: Should we retain unanswered questions from deleted users?

JamalBackground We've had a user who asked many questions, mainly follow-up questions, some of which lacked sufficient detail and a review request. Due to some issues stemming from issues of the user and the community regarding how these questions should be asked, the user eventually had their accoun...

I plan on adding CSS later...

Q: Should I use const in this function argument?

KallDrexxI'm working on getting myself comfortable with C after only working in high level languages for the past 10 years. I've done rust as well and really like the concept of notating immutability in functions. That being said I'm confused on if I should use const wherever the compiler lets me, or jus...

Abdessamad BenI have a Java program that does find and replace (like when you do it in a text editor for example notepad++) in files of a folder and all sub-folders. Q: Partial derivatives of weights are 0. Is this right?

YugenswitchIve been making this neural net and I noticed the partial derivatives for the weights are always 0. So my quest...

@DerKommissar I can assure you it wasn't me. I was thinking of rereading that conversation the other day, so I could learn something

Please visit the help center, take the tour to see what and How to Ask. What is the actual question here? The code works. If you need codereview, then there is codereview.stackexchange.com — mplungjan 31 secs ago
I would suggest to read this excelmacromastery.com/vba-error-handling/#Using_ErrRaise and this codereview.stackexchange.com/a/94462/132083 Finally the aim of the game is to let the error bubble up the call stack by (re-)raising it and then handle it in the proper procedure. — Unhandled Exception 1 min ago

@DerKommissar I don't think it was me either. I'm familiar with it, but don't use it.

Huh, I swear it was one of you two, but I suppose not then.
I've been wrong before. Not common, but it happens.

If it was me (I could be wrong, too!) I hope I mentioned that support for it is not entirely solid.

@SᴀᴍOnᴇᴌᴀ Why?

@Mast I'm trying to determine how much effort, if any, I should spend on this question
if I take the easy route I might just speak to the helper function at the end of the code... but to more thorough I would probably want to actually address the questions posed by the OP

@SᴀᴍOnᴇᴌᴀ I'm in favour of deleting orphaned questions older than a year, but there's a lot of reasons we don't/can't/shouldn't.
Honestly, they're just wasting real-estate.

that is how I feel

But since they're still around anyway, you may as well write an answer for it.
Perhaps you'd even get a stray upvote.
But considering the first rule of this site is people must want a review and the account no longer exists, you got to wonder who you'd be writing the review for.
I wonder if we can simply close them for not wanting a review anymore.

exactly
hmm... we could start a bandwagon...

4:16 PM
You'd be writing it for anyone else who stumbled on it, IMHO. A good question (or at least one with a catchy title) gets a lot more views than simply the OP. This one has 4 upvotes, for example.

It's viewed 54 times in a bit over two months.
It's not a shining example, but some posts could definitely remain just because they're good posts.

And ones that have negative totals just go away if they're not answered.

Eventually they'll be roomba'd, yes.
That doesn't solve the growing amount of orphaned zombies though.

It's not clear to me in what way an orphaned zombie is really a problem.

4:34 PM
A year of unattended questions isn't much of a problem. A decade of unattended questions stack up, it's a pile that grows faster than it goes down, negatively affecting search results.

I suppose the alternative is saving that unsubscribe callback in state somewhere to be called by code later when you want to unsubscribe. Or refactor it to put the firebase logic in a redux-connected React context provider. Is there an issue with the above code or are you rather looking for a code review? — Drew Reese 57 secs ago

@ekhumoro While this may be on-topic on CR, in the future, please don't use the existence of the Code Review site as a reason to close a question. Evaluate the request and use a reason like Needs more focus (as I have done here), primarily opinion-based, etc. Then you can mention to the OP that it can be posted on Code Review if it is on-topic. Please see Does being on-topic at another Stack Exchange site automatically make a question off-topic for Stack Overflow?Sᴀᴍ Onᴇᴌᴀ 17 secs ago

This is something better suited for Code Review but as an early warning: This would not pass any code review process I've ever been involved in in the past 30 years. To me it seems you disregarded the advice telling you about the illegality of type punning in C++, threw your degree in database modelling and the normal forms out the window and just went with the "quick fix". There's a difference between "trying things out" and "research". The code that seems to be working right now is extremely fragile. Real research would make that obvious to you. — Ted Lyngmo 34 secs ago
