Q: Is this a decent Singleton-like pattern to keep and build upon?

Boober BunzHewo! I come from stackoverflow where my question was just given the boot for being too subjective. @SamOnela Hi! Sorry I'm so late answering you! I've been on CR.SE before (not that I'm good enough to critique other's coding style, though), but I joined this chat only recently. Otherwise I'm in the Awkward Silence almost everyday :)

~ponders whether starting a "one of us" chant would be inappropriate now

@avazula Learn by doing. You'll be amazed by how much you learn from reviewing someone else's code.
"He's done X and Y here, but why? Oh, that's actually quite genius. I'd have done it Z, but Y is much more efficient and actually makes more sense."
Every once in a while, I start writing a review. Half the time I don't finish them because I realize OP did a better job than I'd have done.
Is that a problem? No. I learned something and take that to the next review.
Although I'm usually absent-minded enough to still make a lot of stupid mistakes in my own code.
C'est la vie.

Q: Speed improvement in tesseract for many images

Peter LeweikDo you have any ideas how to improve speed of tesseract for many images? I have 2 examples. First, I convert image to text that contains about 200 words. It takes 1 second. Secondly, I have a loop of 100 images that contain 2 words and it takes 16 seconds. How to improve time for the second case?...

@Mast Haha, that's one major thing programming taught me: humility. I'm learning everyday but the more I know, the more I realize I know nothing.

We talk about the site, site activity, questions, answers, meta, etc.

@Mast Thanks! :)

But there's plenty of moments we don't talk about those because there's not much to talk about at that moment.
As long as there's no 'site business' going on, mostly anything goes.
Usual disclaimers apply.

Okay, pretty much like others then.
I'm gonna be on vacation soon but I think I'm gonna try my luck on Q&A here as well
I'm more reluctant to post about tech stuff on SE because as said before, I feel like I know nothing Jon Snow. The only stack I'm trying to help is Ask Ubuntu, but there's so many "haaalp my computer doesn't work" it's difficult to do so ^^

@avazula Feel free to ask if anything is unclear about the site's scope, how questions should be written and what answers are considered useful. There's plenty in the so please read a bit around there first.
If you're willing to help the site, we're willing to help you help us.

Q: Correct new window DOM access JQ/JS

A19-DI have opened a new window called win2. I am trying to change the text in a DIV with an ID of title. I can access the video player elements to play a video but for some reason, for the life of me cannot figure out how to change the text: var extS = $(win2.document).contents().find('#videosource'...

9:45 AM
In that case read "vanish" as "keep a grumpy face so that no one bothers you and you can go wherever you want"?
However, that size is also a remedy, it's easy for your friends to spot you. Friend of mine is 1,9, which was a godbless at RPC (although it's not nearly as full as GC)

I used to be able to pull that in Stuttgart's streets, but I largely stopped and replaced it with "confident and aimful quick stride to get past all the annoying slow people"
works best with a suit
question reopened, but mostly because I don't consider it clear-cut enough to keep unilaterally closed. Chime in :)

That also works. Without the suit you still get bothered by some advertisers at GC.

I really don't like wearing suits. They suit me, but I don't like them anyways.
not a big fan of formal attire

Were you on GC before?

nah. I was in cologne during GC once, but only on a trip to sweden.

Q: Chart of Percentage questions Answered

Sam OnelaEvery day, Duga reports the number of unanswered questions and percentage of answered questions (after she calls the API endpoint /info) in The 2nd Monitor (so we can keep the Zombies at bay). what am I doing wrong?

@Aurelius Welcome to Code Review! At Code Review we review code which works. It looks like yours doesn't yet. Please take a look at the help center.

@Aurelius WHY ARE YOU POSTING A PRIVATE KEY TO THE PUBLIC WEB?!
2

@Mast thank you for your kindness

I removed and redacted that private key for you, but you should consider it fully compromised

10:17 AM
@Vogel612 so that people can try the code and see the error?!

replace the keys with blind text!
as the name implies: a private key should be private

Why? I don't think it will work with dummy text
It should be private if the key has some meaning
I can generate millions of private keys when I wish
and throw them away when I want
who cares?

The security trigger happy side of me

Tip: get yourself in the habit of never sharing any key random strangers shouldn't have. Private keys, API keys, etc.
4
Decreases the chance of accidents.

possibly even better: get yourself in the habit of never sharing any keys, except public ones

I don't see why this bothers you. Having taken one sock, there are ten remaining socks which will match and nine which will not. The ratio is 10:9 or 1.11... But your code needs some work and you should submit it to Code Review to be put on-track to write better code. In particular, declaring every variable in a block at the top of your program is damaging and indicative of a very old-fashioned style. It pretty much nullifies the advantages of use strict, which should only ever be commented out in private and without fear of interruption! — Borodin 18 secs ago

Sorry if this is off-topic in this Chat area, but I was asked to revise my title on a post in the codereview and I don't see any way to revise the title. Can anyone point me to directions or tell me how to do that? I tried editing the post, but that doesn't seem to include the title.

Hey @McAuley this is a perfect fit here :)
the title is a separate field from the body of the post
it should become editable when you click on the small [edit] link below your post

Thanks! @Vogel612, now I see it !

@Mast I tried putting that chart on my website but the domain isn't secure, so I ran into HTTPS issues; I tried doing it through JS but hit CORS issues :/ on my site I ended up making an AJAX request to the PHP playground output
since the PHP playground site is secure

I might try using python instead of PHP - looking at free hosts
