Q: Printing command line arguments in c++

CodeFishI'm learning c++ and here I've written a little toy program that is supposed to list all the arguments passed to it through the command line. #include <iostream>; using namespace std; int main (int argc, char *argv[]) { for (int number = 1; number < argc; ++number) { cout << argv[number] <<...

In python, If I have a function that returns an object, say someEncapsulatingClassObject.foo() returns _foo, and _foo's class has a member function bar(). Do i have to first save a reference to _foo, then apply bar to it, as in _foo.bar(), or is there some way to chain them together?
I tried someEncapsulation.foo().bar(), and that does not work unfortunately. I'm not even sure what this concept would be called

Hi, welcome to Stack Overflow! This kind of question is probably better suited to this site: codereview.stackexchange.com. On codereview you are likely to find more people who can answer your question in a way that is more helpful for you in the long run. — William Patton 39 secs ago

If I'm in a function in foo.js, how can I call a function in bar.js?

@EBrown o_O

@Hosch250 Import it.

4:58 PM
@Hosch250 node?

@EBrown What happened tot he other side of your head?

or browser JS

@Riker Client-side.

so browser js?

@Hosch250 That's one hand in a salute, with the other by the side.

4:59 PM
Oh.

import funcSomething from "bar";
Right?

I thought it was a nose, an eye, and an ear.

No^^

I think so yea for node
but I don't know for browser.js

import is not implemented in any browsers

4:59 PM
Oh, right.
That's Node.

That's the bloody trouble with JS. You can't do anything in it ;/
2

Eh, require?

You just have to include the file where bar.js is contained in your HTML

@Hosch250 yea

That's Node too, AFAIK.

5:00 PM
@Mast node only

require is Node

Crap.

lol

So much for this 'one language to rule them all' crap.

@Hosch250 wait, are they both already loaded on the page?

5:00 PM
@Phrancis Yeah, I have them both included in the HTML.

Browser JS is not as "clean" as node

I think if you load foo.js first it might still work

<script src="./javascripts/PresentValueCalculator.js"></script>
<script src="./javascripts/validation.js"></script>
Like that?

@Phrancis they're both cancerous IMO

@Hosch250 Then you should be able to just call it from anywhere

5:01 PM
@Hosch250 think so yeah

OK.
Let me see.

as long as the file you're trying to import from is first, it works iirc

@Riker Write it in global scope and load it before loading the second file. That would work.

To prove it, I have to FTP into the server.

Doesn't JS have namespaces or something to make it less messy?

5:01 PM
Nope

Of-course it hasn't. Would make way too much sense.
2
You can either pick a sensible language or JavaScript. Not both.
2

Good naming is really, really important with JS lol.

Monking

In Node-based client-side libraries you can use all the handy bells and whistles like require and import but plain browser JS doesn't have anything like that yet
Eventually I'm sure it will have that in the browser, it's just that it takes time for all browsers to adapt to new changes in JavaScript standards

It sounds like you have a lot more in your page object than you should. Remember, the page object should contain things related to the page in question. It shouldn't contain things like common methods, database connectors, and the like. Those should be in some Utils class elsewhere so it can be called when needed. @JohnBollinger Interesting coding model. Does the builder then edit the code with (void) if determined ignoring the return values was a reasonable choice, ignores select diagnostics (which could be 100s to 1000s of them), blanket turns-off the warning, goes back to the writer who then edits in a (void) or what? My model is one where code that passes code review no longer generates diagnostics. If such a pedantic diagnostic was required, then many (void) would exist and the diagnostic would not keep popping up on next builds. — chux 36 secs ago

If you have working code and are just looking for ways to improve it, your question belongs on Code Review. This site is for questions related to actual problems you're facing with your code, not peer review. — Ken White 44 secs ago
@DanielKamilKozar: Code review would have a serious talk to you if you moved this question. They expect working code. I don't see any in the question. — Olaf 40 secs ago

Q: I have no idea where to start with this RationalNumber program (Java)

rmcknst2http://imgur.com/a/Y3ck4 The link above shows an assignment that I have no idea where to start. I haven't done Java in years and again I have no idea what to do. Any help or an outline would be appreciated.
