Q: Stuck on Tough Problem Involving Graph

Goodwin LuIn the problem, they say some point are "stars" and they are looking for wandering stars/asteroids. They give you around 100 points on a 100, 100 graph and then rotate all the points EXCEPT ONE (which moves in a random direction) by an ambiguous degree. Some points go off the graph after the rota...

#include <stdio.h>
#include <string.h>
#include <stdlib.h>
#include <stdbool.h>

int main(int argc, char **argv)
{
    char buffer_line_template_file[100];
    char buffer_line_data_file[100];
    bool match = false;

    if (argc != 3)
    {
        perror("You didn't insert all the arguments!\n");
        exit(EXIT_FAILURE);
    }

    FILE* template_file = fopen(argv[1], "r");
    FILE* data_file = fopen(argv[2], "r");

    if (!template_file || !data_file)
    {
        perror("Error while opening the file!\n");
@Cajuu' Let me know how that works

@syb0rg now it just prints the first line from file1

@Cajuu' Does that line match any line from file2?

2:06 PM
nope

Perfect, what's wrong then?

well, it didn't print all the lines ...
^^

Can I see these two files?

@syb0rg You need to set match again to false after the if (!match) printf("%s\n", buffer_line_template_file);

2:10 PM
@Heslacher Ah yes, I should reset that... silly me
I'm trying to do too many things at once here at work haha
@Cajuu' Change to if (!match) ...; match = false;

I got it working now
yay
thanks a lot

Sorry that took so long

there's no problem... I'm also at work and trying to learn C
I'm coming from python
^^
I'll post this here now that is working. I'll have to run it in an environment which does not have to much RAM and maybe the guys have some improvements when it comes to RAM usage

Zak
I don't know why I ever considered developing a Document Builder In Excel. It is so much easier in an application actually designed to create Documents.

@Cajuu' It's C, RAM will not be your main issue unless you leak your memory.

2:18 PM
@Zak To some peoples surprise Excel is actually not the best tool for all applications ;)
2

I think it all depends on what kind of documents you're building.

@Mast well, then what ? I though RAM is being used when doing I/O processing. What should I be concerned about ?

1) Make it work.
2) Profile it.
3) See what happened.
Optimize where required, not where suspected.
3

Zak
@skiwi It was a case of, I needed Excel to interface with some other document (a form dressed up to look like a document), so I figured I'd just build the whole thing in Excel.
In hindsight, Excel is great as an interface, but it is not designed to create and print textual documents.
Funny thing, even in "Print View", What you see is not what you get.
Hey, those line up ^^

Is a hash still a viable datastructure if you want to reverse lookup?
As in, find a key by a values instead of the other way around?

Zak
@Mast (There's probably a better way, but this is how I'd do it:) Just have 2 hash tables. Key --> Values and then Values --> Keys

I believe you've got a case of Really Dumb Objects that consequently need to be propped up by really clever code. You may want to consider making your objects less dumb and giving them methods to do stuff that can work with the benefit of knowing their context (Father.ApplyOneTwo(b => b.ID += 100)). However, that goes into code review territory, which is not really within the scope of SO. One question that remains relevant: is everything you want to do with the objects determined at compile time? If so, reflection can be avoided, otherwise not. — Jeroen Mostert 48 secs ago

Zak
You'd also need to know beforehand that both sets contain only unique values.

All keys and all values will only exist once. However, a key can also exist as a value, but this should be of no concern.

@gsamaras: Not a downvoter but its easy to understand the downvote. You are asking question about obscure cases that should not exist in the real world. No real organization would allowed the above expression to pass through a code review. Because understanding the syntax is so obscure (you need to ask stackoverflow what it means) it effectively makes the code unreadable and thus should not be allowed to exist in code. Which is also why you should treat all your errors as warnings -WError and this would stop the code from even compiling. — Loki Astari 34 secs ago

Sorry for the wait. There is something strange with the winning condition. I want the output as it is, but again it is hackish. Having to modify when gown is printed. The problem with my original way of doing it. Is that it lets you guess again after losing.
This can be solved by printing gown at the end. But then it is not printed by the "you guessed correctly mate" condition
TL;DR: It works and I hate how it looks.

@N3buchadnezzar Long story, basically I'm getting several text messages with interesting cop stories, from this lady, and I'm like "damn I hope you don't get shot or something."
Probably why I'm frustrated, now that I think about it.
@Mat'sMug Did you ever get that backup/log situation fixed?

@EBrown I thought you were going for the Subway lady?
@N3buchadnezzar Screenshot?

@Mast That didn't pan out, she left before I got the chance to ask her out.
Probably better that way.

@Mat'sMug Nice!
@CommitStrip True fact right there.

@CommitStrip Make it work, figure it out later.

@Mast Something like this?

@N3buchadnezzar Looks fixable.

@Mast :p

@N3buchadnezzar I'm not entirely sure what causes it, but that's the way to go :P

This is like bringing your car to the mechanic. You tell him: "my steering wheel is broken" and he replies "yeah you are right, i guess it can be fixed" and then leaves :p
^ Just joking btw

While well worded this is more of a code review than a specific question. — HeadCode 39 secs ago

@EBrown not are People confusing. that
@N3buchadnezzar Well, I'd need the exact current code to reproduce it :P

@Mast >.>

@Mast You asked for a screenshot not code :p

@N3buchadnezzar Yes, to see the alignment problem.

@Mast I posted it as a question instead. Captain Obvious will probably post it in chat sooner or latex.

Yay for questions.

Q: The right way to hang a man: final part

N3buchadnezzarThe problem: Making a simple hangman game. This is a continuation of the following question: The right way to hang a man. There I just tried to make the ascii-gallow. Now I have tried to write the rest of the code for the hangman game, using the ideas from the answer. I have tried very hard to...

@CaptainObvious That title.

@CaptainObvious You finalized the hanging man.
@CaptainObvious You know you can split orders up, right?
Eh, functions. @N3buchadnezzar

I thought I did?

sooner or latex? lol dat lapsus

I mean like:
parser.add_argument(
    'InnerAmplitude',
    type=float,
    help='For example 0.1'
    )
So you don't go over 80.

@Mat'sMug Atleast it was not a freudian slip..

lol

@Mast Clever
Lapskaus is dish in Norway btw..

oh man the fading animation for a user leaving the room is so sad :(

IKR :)

@A_S00 Why, what are you imagining?

like, maybe them stretching a hand out forlonly as they step away into darkness?
possibly a bit of "gandalf falling into shadow" too?
maybe some "Leaving on a Jetplane" soundtrack to go with

@Mat'sMug Just finished porting my PDF tool to use the MVP pattern. I'll post the question shortly.

@MichaelBrandonMorris You are the real MVP.

@N3buchadnezzar Haha, thanks

I think I have a decent challenge for July but I'll probably need to flesh out the title.

@Legato Just post the challenge, we can do the rest. ;)
