Q: Python printing issues

D.CI have been coding games in python for a while now, and one thing I always stumble across is the idea of being able to print but over a number of lines and in one statement... For Example... print(' 1 2 3 4 +--+--+--+--+ 1 |<>| | |><| +--+--+--+--+ 2 | |<>| |><

Q: Partially finished Python Connect Four

AKorWas told to post this here. I have a game of Connect Four partially written, in Python. The main portion missing is that I have no idea how to approach the logic of actually checking the win condition. My nested if statements can probably be done much better too. Any help/suggestions? import ran...

Q: Calculate questions per day on CodeGolf.SE

Alex A.I wrote a short script in Python 3 that connects to the Stack Exchange API, gets all questions on Programming Puzzles & Code Golf over the past two weeks, and determines the average number of questions per day as well as the average number of answers per question. The number of questions per day...

@Mat'sMug Possibly a side-effect of SE claiming SO will be their new name.
@DanPantry What's the difference?

9:32 PM
its darker and says dev edition

lol
Guess what I just found out?
Modularity is also important in hardware, especially when you're rapid prototyping.
My car looks a bit iffy now...

Is this post on topic now?

Q: Avoiding numbness with Python Enum

tachyclineFirst, the context: I'm working with a student to build a web frontend for a star cluster simulation package called starlab. Typical starlab usage involves chaining sequences of commands together with Unix pipes. We want to store both the output and the set of commands (and arguments) used to ge...

Q: Finding the largest gap between good primes in limited time

catA while back I crafted an answer on CR's neighbour rival site, PPCG, about finding the largest distances between good primes (OEIS sequence #A028388). My answer was one of the slowest: slower, even, than some of the Python answers! This code will eventually find the larger gaps, but it will take...

@SirPython Did the edit adhere to your comment?

Well, he deleted the part that asks about the first section of code (no longer there) and what it does/how it works.

If your program is working, but just need a good clean up/efficiency tune up, codereview.stackexchange.com is probably a better place for this type of question. — DangerZone 48 secs ago

Regarding the closed post, it seems kind of strange asking for a full retype of the code.

@holroy Agreed, which is why I won't remove my down-vote.
But I'm not sure whether that on itself makes it off-topic.

I think it's a possible misconception by the OP that we can't copy-paste the code from the website.

Could be, but it reads strange....

I asked the OP for clarification.

Why ask for "real code" vs "production code"? Was that the intended question?

10:23 PM
@SirPython It's the internet, of-course we can copy-paste.

Q: Better way to prompt user for DateTime

DeboI'm working on a project where I have to prompt a user a enter several dates. This is the code I came up with for prompting the user for the day, month, and year. Console.WriteLine("Day: "); var dateDay = Console.ReadLine(); var dateDayInt = Convert.ToInt32(dateDay); Console.WriteLine("Month: "...

And this is why explicit types are important and letting VBA do implicit conversions for you, makes the language a headscratcher for so many people. Nice post! — Mat's Mug 18 secs ago

monking
@CaptainObvious another soul belongs to us

It's actually quite good that PPCG users are posting here more often now because it is drawing quite a lot of attention from other users from other sites.

Yeah, definitely

@Quill mwahahahaha

Thank you for you appreciation.

?

10:54 PM
oh god

@RoboSanta Why are these called Naruto answers again? I never got that...

Another invasion?

I have a sock named Captain obvious with that exact profile pic.

@Mast No, I'm always here.
Riker is an invader though.

... thanks.

possible answer invalidation by T145 on question by T145: codereview.stackexchange.com/posts/120451/revisions

@Duga Looks harmful.
Those changes are mentioned in the answer the OP got.

Do you usually roll back that kind of thing?

Evening all!

@DJanssens monking... err... evenking?

@quartata Yup. If a code edit invalidates an answer, then it is not useful to future readers.

10:56 PM
@SirPython OK.

@Duga Fixed.

Hey @DJanssens!

Put your partyhats on! This bad boy graduated. :)

I thought for a second you meant that a SE site graduated
Congratulations!

@quartata What? Never. :O

10:58 PM
Wrong room?
Congrats @DJanssens.

@DJanssens Congratulations!

What did you major in?

@DJanssens \o/

Congratulations @DJanssens!

@RikerW Computer Science, Software Engineering.
Thanks all

11:00 PM
@quartata The hat from Winter Bash.
@DJanssens Congrats. Which degree did you get?

@quartata I wondered that too, actually

@Hosch250 Not sure what it is in american scale. But I managed to get an 82%, which is great distinction here.

I meant did you get a Bachelor's, Masters, PhD, or something else?
Congrats on your high scores. My guess is that it corresponds to the high 90's here.

yeah
A 70 in the US is barely a pass, right? Here it's 50

Yeah.

11:06 PM
@Rob thanks but my question is about compiler differences - not code review ;) btw when I put T : Attribute the error goes away. — Vlad 56 secs ago

I often wish I was getting a harder education. I'm barely learning anything here - I can struggle with the material and still make A's easy.
The teachers are really lenient with their grading as well.
@Quill @quartata:

@Hosch250 Education is a start, not the end.

Yes.

Aha, my bad @Hosch250. Oh well, now I could show off ;) Anyway it's a master degree.

After your education you can decide what you want and learn in a very specific route.

11:08 PM
Yep @Mast, I'm quite scared of the road ahead :D
especially since I have not a single clue what direction I want to head.

Start working on Rubberduck ;)

@Hosch250 ahhh
What Winterbash was that?
'14?

2014.

k

@DJanssens You should go for a PHD, then we can call you DRJanssens

11:13 PM
@Quill That's Mr. Doctor Professor Janssens to you

Doctor Ir. Janssens.

@Quill It was(is) an option. But from what I've heard, a Phd in computer science (in Belgium?) is not that profitable. Harder to find a job, since well they expect to pay more and you are specialised in a niche, with the lack of industrial experience.

That makes sense. Have you considered moving overseas if a job opportunity presents itself?

Sadly no Ir. @Mast, seems only a limited number of universities in Belgium give the title Ir. to computer science majors.
@Quill No can do, girlfriend and stuff.

There's plenty of job opportunities in the EU.

11:18 PM
Yeah, that's true as well

Still, there is a difference between just occasional having to travel and relocation. The first one is a possibility, the second not.

Seems like you should post the question hereEser 11 secs ago

I'm currently looking into the startup scene, to see if something interesting with job openings pops up.

@Quill I don't think it actually is an ES6 feature. Read my latest comment.

11:23 PM
Yes, but that's not the same as foo(3, bar="spam"); which is what I was referring to.

I thought there was something similar

Well, you could pass an object that the function may destruct like function foo({bar, spam}) {

@SirPython I heard Javascript.

@DanPantry This post. I said that there was a similar feature in ES6.

@DanPantry We're talking about this kinda thing function me(name, occupation){} me(name="quill", occupation="ninja")

11:35 PM
Look what is possible with my new Settings pane:

yep

That's ES6

that's cool @Hosch250

It is? I tried that and it didn't work for me @DanPantry.

11:47 PM
@Hosch250 hmm I'm not sure anymore that the "Grouping" menu should have a heading label... anyway good job with that settings button! :-)

I think it should.
In fact, I would prefer if they all did, like the settings window.

Hmm
