yeah... I'm planning on making a userscript to making selecting them easier
effectively, it should work the same, except you don't need to hold down a key, clicking or dragging box over swaps the on-off state of the selection
Oh, that would be good

I had a Canadian teacher once...
he once sang the Canadian national anthem in class when the class wouldn't quiet down
the worst part is that he was off-key
@Quill That may have been on purpose.
Look at this interesting pattern I discovered:
The first row is the number. The second is the sum of 1..N, where N is in the row above.
The next row has the pattern.
I think I've seen that pattern before, but I'm not sure of the name
very interesting stuff, that kinda thing
If it is even, multiply the sum by the number above it and it divided by 2.
If it is odd, multiply it by (it + 1) / 2
isn't that just the faculty?
@JeroenVannevel Faculty, like a teacher?

oh, faculty is multiplication
In mathematics, the factorial of a non-negative integer n, denoted by n!, is the product of all positive integers less than or equal to n. For example, The value of 0! is 1, according to the convention for an empty product. The factorial operation is encountered in many areas of mathematics, notably in combinatorics, algebra, and mathematical analysis. Its most basic occurrence is the fact that there are n! ways to arrange n distinct objects into a sequence (i.e., permutations of the set of objects). This fact was known at least as early as the 12th century, to Indian scholars. Fabian Stedman...

04:55
@JeroenVannevel - sometimes ;-)
you know a thing or two about the java compiler, right?
Some, yes, but mostly the IBM JDK.
The OpenJDK often does similar things, though.
Let's give it a shot
In this answer, Schabse talks about overlapping scopes
3
A: How does the java compiler assign index's in the local variables table?

SLaksThe compiler is smart enough to reuse variable slots for variables whose scopes do not overlap. Because they can never both be used at the same time, there is no need to store them separately. Since hello and var6 have no overlap, the slot can be reused.

How can you determine that scope from the LocalVariables table in the question?
I suppose it might have something to do with the start/end but I'm not entirely sure what those numbers represent
I am inferring a few things here, that variable table is a little new to me.
OK, so, this is how it goes...... The guy is running a64bit OS.
This puts the word-boundary on an 8-byte alignment.
Each Java object will be byte-aligned on the 8-byte word, so objects will always be a multiple of 8 bytes.
In this instance, the first object is an instance of the Main class. You can see this on the right in the name: typeName='LMain;'}
the L prefix is a prefix for a long pointer, or something (i.e. this is an instance of a Main class).
The class has a number of fields, each has an offset inside the main class instance.
This is the first variable called hello which is an I, or int primitive: name='hello', typeName='I'
You can see it is at offset: start=2,though the end appears to be the end of the entire data struct in the Main instance end=60.
The next variable is offset 4, and so on.
What is the unit of measurement for an offset?
05:06
The array-of-int is more complex, it needs an alignment too, since it is an object of sorts.
The unit is 2-bytes, I believe... let me check....
Hmmm... coming up blank..... looking in other places.
Let me do the math first, though.... the 9-element array-of-int is 9*4 byte + about 8 bytes of object and length overhead, or something.....
length overhead referring to the .length property?
Yes, but an array is also a full-fledged object with some overheads for that too.
Yeah I recall some stuff like that. object pointers 8 bytes, booleans 2, etc
Yup. I have a great reference and even some code I wrote once to inspect memory use in an object.
Different implementations do these things differently, but most are the same.
IBM's JDK has optimizations for example for having a 48-bit memory address pointer instead of a full 64-bit.
An int is 32-bit -- 4 byte. That would make that a difference of offset=2 which seems to line up with the LocalVariables table in the example
assuming 1 offset = 2 byte
05:15
The savings are often a few %, but it makes a difference.
heh, SO FTW:
3
Q: What do 'start' and 'length' attribute in LocalVariableTable mean

dhblahSo here is the example: LocalVariableTable: Start Length Slot Name Signature 0 133 0 this Lcom/my/class/Test; 2 131 1 a I 4 129 2 b I 7 126 3 i I 10 123...

So, take the crap I wrote above, and replace that variable table with the bytecode local context table.
Alright, that clears it up
yeah, I was thking of the JIT compiler, and other tables for variables in that... but the table in that question is the bytecode compiler.
6:20 am, I'll go sleep on this a bit
I love compilers
Sorry for the mislead there.
it only serves as more information

You may have more luck at the Code Review Stack ExchangeArcaneCraeda 16 secs ago
Well, for measuring collisions your code either works or not - it's not like you're asking for performance tuning tips. If you believe it's working, fine - you might post it to another stackexchange-family website for code review, but this one is for specific observed problems. If you know it's not working, you should say exactly what goes wrong with some specific minimal/small set of inputs (not randomised ones) so it's reproducible, then explain what's actually happening (observed outputs), you think's going wrong and how you checked, and what's still not understood. — Tony D 21 secs ago

Q: Duplication of enum across two models

mdkrogIn my Rails app, I have two classes each with the same enum for status. Code climate is complaining about duplication. class Enrolment < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :enrolment_presentations has_many :presentations, through: :enrolment_presentations enum status: { 'Pending' => 1, '...

It"s a very interesting question Paul, but I think you might get better answer to it on codereview.stackexchange.comeliasah 5 secs ago
damn, I can't understand ruby but I'm guessing he need to put it a class higher as both of them extends the same class?
07:32
@chillworld you COULD do that
But it feels hacky (to me) using inheritence when it comes to database records
The correct answer here is realising that enum is a method on ActiveRecord::Base
so he could just as easily define his status dictionary once and then pass it like: enum status: status
@DanPantry isn't ActiveRecord::Base not a higher class?
I really can't read ruby ;)
@chillworld it is, but I thought you were suggesting creating a class that extends ActiveRecord::Base that had the status enum assigned to it, then causing Enrolment and EnrolmentPresentations to extend from that class.
class A < B = class A extends B
and
class A < B::C = class A extends B.C
No, I was suggesting putting it in ActiveRecord::Base as they both extend it
Oh, no, you definitely don't want to do that.
ActiveRecord::Base is a 3rd party type that governs all active record types.
If you put enum status in that type, every single active record (which you have 1 per table) would have that status property.
ow 3rd party :(
luckily I don't answer that one ;)
So the only solution is create a enum class seperatly and add that to the class itself? (or is that also not possible?)
07:41
0
A: Duplication of enum across two models

Dan PantryForgive my ignorance, but isn't ActiveRecord::Base#enum just a method? Therefore, to help reduce duplication (but not eliminate it), you could do something like this: STATUS_FLAGS = { 'Pending' => 1, 'Suspended' => 2, 'Cancelled' => 3, 'Pass' => 4, 'Fail' => 5, 'DPR' => 6, 'Unknown' =

Not necessarily, Ruby has mixins as a first-class concept, but I'm unsure of how they play with ActiveRecord.
I'll stick to mine habitat ;)

A: Perform loop through process on all sheets at once

RaystafarianI'll take a crack at this. First things first - always qualify where you're doing something e.g. AutoFilterMode = False should be ws.AutoFilterMode = False. Your variable names are lacking - lrc, LR1 and LR2 give me no idea as to what they are being used for or if they are different from one ano...

Q: ConnectFour negamax implementation fails

DualinityI'm trying to implement a negamax search for a ConnectFour game. Somehow, the resulting score is always 0, while it is obvious that player 1 would always win the example. Sorry for the large amount of code: helper function to generate win masks: def get_masks(): rows = 6 cols = 7 m...

Our instructor just wished us best of luck for the exam via email (11am) when the exam started at 9am
@skiwi lol

Hehe, it was from 9 till 12, I left at 10.15
I think that only with a 9 or 9.5 I had a chance to pass, needed to show up and fill in my name though to be allowed to do the resit

There were 9 questions, 6 and 7 I think I have correct, 5 and 8 were true/false with explanation and have half correct there I guess
Didn't study at all though as there were other courses where I actually had a chance to pass :)

@SimonForsberg True story. My mum's a teaching assistant in a 6th form college (That's the last 2 years of high school for you Americans). Recently, in an IT class, Floppy Disks were mentioned, followed by "What's a floppy disk from the students". So they showed them.
I got the accept. nice

Response from the students: "Why would somebody print out the save icon?"
@Zak I still have my floppy disks with my .bmp files on it
Once you have it working as you'd like, I'd suggest posting a review question on codereview.stackexchange.com where you'll get loads of advice... — ThunderFrame just now

Reminds me of my younger brother. Only 3 years younger, yet has never experienced dial-up internet.
I remember torrenting on dialup
