It would be helpful to state your specific problem. Maybe in terms of "Performance is X" and "Performance needs to be Y". Otherwise it might be better to move this question away from Q&A style to codereview.stackexchange.comgrek40 47 secs ago

This question could be suitable for Code Review, as long as (a) your code works as intended, (b) your code is real code, rather than example code, and (c) your code is included in the body of the question. If you wish for a peer review to improve all aspects of your code, please post it on Code Review. — Phrancis 7 secs ago

Hey, look at this email I just got:
> Enviado do Email do Outlook para o telefone Windows 10
Looks like a Portuguese user was using Learn OneNote on Windows 10 Mobile.

@Hosch250 That's cool! Is that the first you've gotten notice that a W10 Mobile user was using your app?

Yes.
I wrote it for Windows Phone 8.1.
In fact, I feel terribly sorry for the guy, because they completely re-wrote OneNote for Windows 10.
I haven't updated my app, so it is completely outdated.
That is why I'm planning on pulling it.

I thought it got thousands of downloads per year though?
I mean, if you want help updating the info, I'm willing to chip in.
I'll just need to Learn OneNote

lol

@EthanBierlein Actually, if you are interested, you can take it over entirely.
I completely rewrote most of it, but it does not compile at the moment because I stopped in the middle of rewriting the Search page.

2:52 AM
Maybe you could just have it retitled "Learn OneOne for Windows 8"?

Dear Sir or Madame:

It appears you are using my app Learn OneNote on Windows 10 Mobile. I am very sorry for the inconvenience, but I wrote this app targeting Windows Phone 8.1, and as OneNote was completely re-written, the tutorials are worthless on for OneNote on Windows 10 Mobile.

Sincerely,
Abraham Hosch
@Phrancis I could.
Do you think that would be a good response?

Meh, could be phrased a little better

@Hosch250 It might be a possibility. I'm currently working on a game right now, but it could definitely be something I do in my spare time.

It is pretty detailed, and I have a lot of information written on OneNote 2013 too.
You'd just need to change the screenshots to OneNote 2016 (available for free).

Eh, I got a bad rating recently.
They want a video, and they said it isn't true.

I'll download it later and setup a fork when I've got access to my developer laptop.
This will probably also give me a good opportunity to learn WPF.

The Windows Phone test things are really good, but a real device is always better.

So is it a Windows 8 app right now?

It isn't quite WPF, it is WinRT (the framework, not the OS).
Yes, but it should only need slight changes to work on Windows 10.

Cool.
I wonder if there's a way to convert those kinds of apps to Win10 universal apps.

3:01 AM
I built it to work with the Windows 8.1 UI. Windows 10 uses a different look, so it will need some changes.
I don't know. Probably just changing the target framework, or something.

Cool. I'll see what I can do with it when I have time.

If I were you, I probably wouldn't bother. People don't even really use it.

Oh, ok.

I can see the time in use, and it is basically 0 minutes per day.

Mmm, okay.
Maybe I'll stick to my game.
I see why you're pulling it.

3:11 AM
Darn, apparently I no longer have the option to pull it.

I used to be able to.
Hmm, I just got a 4-star review from the guy. He is in Brazil.

Who knows, maybe you can just leave it there and not worry about it anymore.

I just did a resubmission so Windows 10 users can't download it.
OneNote for Windows (Phone) 8.1 is unlikely to get major updates, so...

I know about cross-listed courses - I have one this semester. I think I'll ignore that.
I might as well fix the double-major thing, though.

The hell? Taking an online physics test for my uni
> You are using water to dilute small amounts of chemicals in the laboratory, drop by drop.

How many drops of water are in a 3-liter bottle? Assume that the diameter of a single drop is 2 mm.

I mean when the review labels that are configured on the Gerrit server are validated...the ones that automate certain +1 and -1's (besides the manual code review +1 and -1's). For example, we have custom labels that verify if the commit message has the correct format, if it doesn't, that particular label is given a -1 preventing merging into master until it is fixed. gerrit-review.googlesource.com/Documentation/config-labels.htmlJonathan.Brink just now

It's about electrical current, etc.

possible answer invalidation by Orestis on question by Orestis: codereview.stackexchange.com/posts/111481/revisions

I think 2mm water diameter == 2ml water drop
So 3 liter / 0.0002l
15.000 water drops

4:01 PM
2mm water diameter == 2ml, how?

Demineralised water is 28 drops in a ml
Alcohol is 32 drops in a ml

1L water = 1kg water. But I think I mixed something up
there's no kg here
This is why I don't do physics
or math

volume is 4/3 Pi r^3

But a drop isn't round, else I'd have used that ^^

4:04 PM
isn't it?

It is a sphere unless there's drag on it.

I thought that was just a cartoon representation of when a drop falls down

What about the force that drops in the top of the bottle exert on the lower drops?

What about it? It's called pressure, and pressure is a force in all directions.

When Googling I get that 1 drop of water = 0.05 ml, not sur ei fthey are trying to test the ability to google
@rolfl I mean that in a bottle the drops don't leave an empty space in between them (which you'd get when you stack spheres)

4:07 PM
OK, so, you have to create the drops (by squeezing the water through a nozzle?)

Right, that's what the question seems to indicate

But each drop has 2mm diameter, which is a 1mm radius, which is nice, because 1mm ^ 3 is 1mm^3
So, the volume of a drop is 4/3Pi mm^3

So what you are saying, does make sense

Since there are 1000 mm^3 in a ml ..... (a ml is 1cm^3 ...), and there are 10 by 10 by 10 mm in a cm^3

4:10 PM
Huh, no Pi on my calculator.
1000mm^3 / (4 /3 * pi)mm^3 gives you how many drops in a ml.
Call that "dpm"
Drops = 3000dpm

Answer should be 3e-3 m^3 / ((4/3) * (1e-3)^3) drops

716218.367 drops using 3.1415 as Pi

Right, verified it and it's correct as well (of course) ^^

Shit, that's 367kW
For the servers alone, peak.
765A if you want to supply them full load.
612A if you calc 80%

Second question was to calculate the cost of a device running on X Watt for a year using Y hours per day at a rate of Z euro per kWh... I mean come on, this is not the stuff I've been studying for :|
@rolfl At home...?

Advanced questions: If the servers cost $5000 each, and the MTBF drops from 3 years to 2.5 years when running at 35 degrees instead of 33 degrees..... is it cheaper to replace units for less cooling, or to cool more, and last longer?

@skiwi Only if his house is in the middle of an industrial complex. You can't get a powerline that heavy at home in most places.

That ^^^^
@Mast A standard 48U server rack is typically rated for about 40KW

@rolfl At 3 years they cost 1667 a year. At 2.5 they cost 2000 a year. Are those 300 cheaper than the coolers?

Funnily enough, the power is not the issue we run in to most often.

4:25 PM
No, often it's the heat.

The load-bearing capacity of the building is one that's snuck up on us before.
It's really embarassing when the server falls through the floor.

lol

DROP DATABASE *.*

Dropping servers through the floor will seriously mess up your day.

Often, server rooms have a raised floor, where the under-floor is used for cooling supply, and cabling.
The concrete under that is pretty strong, and the raised floor is strong enough, if you mount servers on the right spots on the floor.

4:27 PM
@rolfl lol

The problem is when you have a dozen racks lined up next to each other.... and a floor-tile gives-way in the middle of the row.....

In case you are wondering what I am talking about, a standard system looks something like:

domino

Notice how the guy on the left is standing on vents... which supply cold air "in front" of the racks, and above, in the ceiling, behind the racks, you have a heat-extraction vent system.

4:31 PM
@Vogel612 professional domino

Rows are set up back-to-back so that you have hot-aisles and cold-aisles.
Women in data centers quickly learn to not wear dresses.
2

Some things you only do wrong once.
How strong are those raisers usually? I mean, usually things like that can carry way more than they're supposed to.

They are strong, but they can break. Often as a result of other faults..... instances I have been aware of are things like a full-rack installation with a fork-lift putting a load-bearing pad down on a bolt..... which, instead of spreading the weight of the rack over a larger area, focused it all in one place.
Other things are that the racks are often bolted together, and a faulty leg sstem on one rack put both rack's weight on just on of their feet, causing the tile to crack.

So they should hold, unless you place them in a way they're not supposed to be placed. Just like most stuff.

A rack can be 300lb easily, then it's 48U tall, and you can stack it with servers like: supermicro.com/products/system/4U/6047/SSG-6047R-E1R72L.cfm which come in at about 150lb when populated... add 10 of those, and you're sitting at 1500 lb in no time.
Data centerdesign is really all about structural, thermal and electrical engineering.
As an example, google data centers now put their racks on concrete, instead of a raised floor.
Their racks can now be taller, and carry more weight.

A: Unity3D native iOS plug-in to read pedometer data

nhgrifWell, there is a lot to talk about here... I can't speak specifically about memory leaks here. I'm not sure how you're writing or compiling this code. But it's important to note that the iOS SDK absolutely does not automatically deallocate objects for you. Objective-C (in contrast to C#) is d...

But the wiring is a PITA, because you need serious ladders, and other tools to cable things.
Hey @nhgrif ;-)

There could be a whole lot more in that answer... all his weird underscores and spacing and such, but... meh, he's doing way, way, way more than he needs.

Suggest you post your code at codereview.stackexchange.commartineau 48 secs ago

Calculating the whole package for a new center sounds like a nice challenge. Never done something like that.

@Mast Sounds like a 1-question 3-hour exam :P

Yup.

@martineau This question does not belong on Code Review. It does not belong anywhere on the Stack Exchange network. It is a bad question. Bad questions get closed--not migrated. — nhgrif 22 secs ago
If you post more code maybe we can help optimize. Or just mark geofurbs answer as correct (he needs the points) and optimize yourself. Code reviews are best posted on the StackExchange forum of that name by the way. — Mike Wise 11 secs ago

Interesting... I need to find the current through a "10-Ohm battery" in a circuit
Typo I think :D

Q: Seeking improvements on app without specifying constraints - belongs on CodeReview?

Vince EmighSometimes there's a clear line between when you should post on StackOverflow and when you should post on CodeReview. So it was pretty surprising to see this question getting so much positive feedback: Print all numbers with nonzero digits in ascending order It's an interesting little program, ...

To be honest, it's probably a lousy title.

@Mast True...

So the filter works.

Not really.
Well then I'll stick to "Conway's Game of Life"

NOBODY CARES ABOUT YOUR STUPID ERRORS LATEX

You could post the code here and ask for help if it is not too long. Post an example of your data too, enough so that people can recreate it easilz. That is probably the easist thing to do. If it is longer I would post it in Code Review. — Mike Wise 30 secs ago

A text document refusing to compile is the equivalent of a fridge with a DDOS
You're a bloody fridge. You're not supposed to DDOS.

What do you mean "refusing to compile"?

errors
errors everywhere

I mean...

@JeroenVannevel I've seen fridges used in botnets so they could DDoS other connections.

what are you trying to do?

5:14 PM
I think it may be too long, so I will try it in code review. Thank you for the help! — user3678028 56 secs ago

What is trying to compile it?
And is it a .txt? Or something else?

You got those fancy smart fridges nowadays, 3k a piece but with Wi-Fi.

oh shit
it worked
I fixed it
Call me a magician darling

No thanks.

@nhgrif TeX is trying to compile my LaTeX source.. LaTeX is a sort of markup language for fancy people

5:16 PM
So, it's not "just a text document"

It's a document with text

So is a .cs file.

Technically all source code files are text documents.

right
anyway
the first PDF version of the first version of my paper finally happened
that calls for a break

Q: Ruby simple MVC refactoring

user1266743I am trying to learn how to build a very basic MVC structure before jumping on rails and other frameworks. Q: Trying to optimize over 7 constants, function takes too long to make this manageable.

user3678028I am not quite sure how to attach my data, but it is 5737 observations of 3 variables. Variables V,P are strictly <0, variable R is -2<R<2. The last function, correcttot, will help me find the optimal constants, or ranges of constants, for this function. However, the function that it funs over, ...
