A: Input check class

BrythanIf you don't mind that it checks more things than just POST and GET, you can use the $_REQUEST superglobal instead: public function get($item) { if ( isset($_REQUEST[$item]) && $_REQUEST[$item] != '' ) { $_REQUEST[$item] = filter_var($_REQUEST[$item], FILTER_SANITIZE_SPECIAL_CHARS)...

@nhgrif You don't have any blog posts on effective manners of eating elephants, do you?
@DanPantry I know about that one, but it doesn't really explain what I need.
Thats the article he was referening
21:12
I'm just curious if he had any others on how to actually find the portions of a problem that can be broken down further.
That's mainly experience unfortunately
(Or if anyone does, even.)
All problems are different. It's a matter of experience doing the exercise.
Do you have a specific problem?
I have a bunch of them...lol
Pick one :p
21:15
Let me find one of the more elusive ones.
Now I can't even find it. >.> It's that elusive.
huh
I just remembered why I don't browse reddit
@EBrown Tiny elephant?
Ok, so for example, I have to build a backup utility to create backups of specific databases from a SQL server on a regular basis, and do things with them.
I went from game ideas, then to monks looking at beer.
Sometimes it has to backup the SQL database to a file, sometimes to another server, etc.

@EthanBierlein circle jerks?
Finally, I landed at a subreddit dedicated to worshipping Nic Cage.
Of course, I did find one gem.

just had a great idea. Why on earth am I dealing with 8 different data arrays when I can just make an array of arrays :)
@EBrown I am at the store, give me like 30 min
@nhgrif I appreciate it, sir! :)
@Zak beware you can only redim preserve the outer dimenesion IIRC
I ran into problems with that for some creepy as heck access vba
In the meantime, do you have a fairly complete-ish list of the business requirements, @EBrown?
@Zak Custom class to group them
21:43
@nhgrif Yeah, I'll get them around here quick.
@JeroenVannevel might be an option, then again I figure Zak is working with vba
Any AngularJS developer around?
Zak
Zak
Yep. For the time being, the only programming I know / do is in VBA
@Vogel612 It's cool. I'm well aware of that condition (would love to know why it's restricted though).
no idea, but it was a real PITA since i had to dynamically resize the array depending on the data I parsed
parsing an unordered graph into a jagged multidimensional array T.T
Dragon - I understand. I was not aware of code review. I will give them a shot as well. — ineverfinishanyth just now

@Duga If nobody minds, I'd be more than happy to take that one if/when it comes through
@Zak Go ahead! ;-)

I would comment inviting them to come over but my SO rep isn't even high enough to do that :)
@EBrown Any time you're using plurals is a good indication that your bites are probably too big still. Any time you're using "and" or "or" is a good indication that your bites are probably too big still.
@nhgrif Yeah, I need to write this on paper and break it down first, methinks.
The requirements are actually much greater than that, I just tried to summarize.
Right. Start by writing the complete requirements down. Put them in a place where I can see it, and I can help you go through it if you want.
22:06
Alright, I have to go shower/shave first, so it will be a few.
@ineverfinishanyth Just make sure to read our help centre before posting anything. :) — EBrown 41 secs ago
@Zak get to 200 on CR and you will be given +100 on SO

@SimonAndréForsberg Oh cool. I'm guessing that's for exactly this reason?
@Zak it's called "Association Bonus", it's for many reasons.
22:26
@nhgrif I'm going to setup another room for this.

does anyone know why this line wouldn't cause an error in vba:
str strVariable = "text"
Is str a type?
Zak
Zak
a what?
Well wait, why do you think it would cause an error?
Zak
Zak
because usually, if I accidentally had 2 variables separated by a space, vba would flag it immediately
okay, I have something of an answer
apparently, Str() is a VBA function
but I would've still expected that line to cause an error of some kind

Well said words by @DanPantry:

If we play the whats the best tech game we'll be here for hours
I should try to make a card game thingy. Seems heavily involved. Also, apparently I should stop using JQuery and learn Angular.
I wouldn't say stop learning jQuery and learn Angular, @LEgato, they are for different things.
But I'm of the opinion that there's almost no reason to use jQuery in standard websites these days and no reason to use jQuery in web apps compared to Angular/React
The only exception is Backbone which has a hard dependency on Jquery/zepto and Ember (which is why I don't use either)
Angular is for web apps, not web sites. There's a distinction between the two.
React can be used for web apps and sites because of the way you get progressive enhancement for free
Gratitude for the explanation.
honestly -- who cares about JS frameworks
every few months the flavor changes
just make sure you know javascript and can adapt to a framework
then pick whatever seems fun
22:59
Lol, it has seemed like that to me.
But I'm king noob.
