I have the same feeling during meetings, go in to outline an elephant and they spend three quarters the time talking about what they could use as replacement trunks

@skiwi No, I have a laptop.

Yes, you shouldn't
But bad keyloggers may act as a passthrough
@Hosch250 It could be the driver

@IsmaelMiguel No, that part is not off-topic at all. As long as you've implemented something, it's perfectly alright to ask "Is there anything out there that already does this?"
Alright, thanks for that tip. I'll make sure I remember it
@SiddharthRout "more apt for" is not the same as "off-topic here". Your close reason is a very bad close reason, please read A Guide to Code Review for Stack Overflow users. This question seems to be about a very specific problem so I don't think this is off-topic for Stack Overflow at all. — Simon André Forsberg 5 secs ago
If your program does not work, you can ask specific questions about the expected behavior and observed behavior. If your program works as intended and you are looking for ways to improve it, post a question at codereview.stackexchange.com. — R Sahu 55 secs ago

@SiddharthRout Can you please join me for a chat in The 2nd Monitor (Code Review general discussion room) — Simon André Forsberg just now
Hey @SiddharthRout
Hey Simon :)
20:13
First of all I must say that you read amazingly fast...
Now, about this particular SO question...
"You should believe that your code works before you ask for a Code Review. There is a difference between asking "Does this code work?" (off-topic) and "This code works, how can I do it better?" (on-topic)" From the link that you provided
the user has specifically mentioned that that code works in win and mac and he wants to improve the code so that it runs faster in win
for me, as a Code Review moderator, this SO question is more about "Why is there such a performance difference?" rather than a general "How can I improve this code?"
I agree with Simon as both a CR user and an SO user.
I'm not saying that the question wouldn't belong on Code Review, I'm saying that your reason for putting it here is wrong, as the question is not off-topic for Stack Overflow in the first place.
> Before referring a Stack Overflow user to Code Review, consider: Is it really off-topic for Stack Overflow? Just because a question is said to have "working code" and seems to be on-topic on Code Review, doesn't mean that it is automatically off-topic for Stack Overflow.
Simon (due respect to the mod status) but your understanding of "Why is there such a performance difference?" is incorrect. If you read the question carefully but this is what the user has said "dont know what is going on but I just want a program that runs in < 15 minutes on both operating systems" If this doesn't equate to "How can I improve this code?" then I am nothing else to say :)
*have
20:18
Again, I did not say this question would be off-topic on Code Review. I'm saying that it's not off-topic for Stack Overflow
isn't what the user asks a very specific problem?
"dont know what is going on" could be seen as to be about understanding the code, which is off-topic here. When you post code on Code Review, you should know what the code is doing and what is going on.
I wrote a comprehensive answer and just got one accept and 0 upvotes. It's hard to cap these days x)
but whether or not the question is good for Code Review is, again, not what I want to discuss here.
@SiddharthRout Can you see the point I'm trying to make?

@SiddharthRout: yes, it was off-topic for SO for the established reasons.
Note that it is fine for a post to exist on one site where it is on-topic even though it would better fit on another site.

We don't migrate for the sake of migration. We only migrate if the post is actually off-topic, that has to be the first reason.
3
@SimonAndréForsberg disagrees though. He says it is on topic for SO as well...
Why do we have different views between moderators?
@SiddharthRout Simon is not a moderator on Stack Overflow.

Q: Implementing TAP around WMI

p.s.w.gI'm trying to improve my skills with the Task-based Asynchronous Pattern (TAP), by writing simple task-based wrappers around some WMI methods. Here's my first stab at it: void Main() { var driveLetter = "E:"; var query = string.Format("select * from Win32_Volume WHERE DriveLetter = '{0}'...

Q: Mocking dependencies when unit testing AngularJS services with QUnit

JeroenI'm trying to unit test an AngularJS service that is dependent on another service, using QUnit as my testing framework. The first test I'm writing is one to verify that my service calls another service under specific circumstances. Below is a runnable example. The actual app code has been simpli...

I want to run a button click server side event after I run the client side event. but they keep going at the same time....
You shouldn't trigger UI events... except during UI automation testing...
a users Credit card is going to be charged on this button click, so I want to make sure they know, with a Dialog, and when they click okay, I want it to go ahead and charge the card and run the search. am I going about it all wrong?
the card charging isn't set up yet, I haven't even thought about it yet.
I am trying to make the search function right now

Well... you shouldn't be running a UI event programmatically.
That UI event should be calling a method that does something. And you can call that method.

Q: Checking if an element sastifying a condition in a list comes before another of a different condition

Captain ManThis is for Java 6 and uses Guava. It's a little ugly and I'm worried I missed some obvious way to do it a lot better. If there is more than one element satisfying either condition I am saying it's false because the condition I am checking should be unique among the list. If and only if the on...

I am not sure we are talking about the same thing @nhgrif. I have a button click event in the code behind that does what I need it to. I am not making the client script run the code behind.
maybe I am not following completely

Q: Interfaces & Factory for generic container supporting PeekMax, PeekMin, Sum, and PeekNextToMax

SnowbodyThis is a partial update of this question. To summarize, the class is a generic container similar to MaxHeap, but only needs to support the following operations. create from an existing collection or finite IEnumerable (constructor / factory) with arbitrary comparison rule peek at the maximum ...

I don't quite understand why this question got a downvote:

"is there any better way to generate the JSON object" - well there's a related issue... you want to create an object, not a "JSON object" and then convert it to JSON. But that's an aside to the question issue, this isn't codereview.stackexchange.com — freedomn-m 49 secs ago

@freedomn-m This question would be off-topic on Codereview. Only working code is on-topic on Codereview, and from the looks of the post, this code is broken. — Ethan Bierlein 52 secs ago

Q: merge adjacent numeric intervals

akonsuGiven a list of pairs of integers that represent closed numeric intervals, I need to output a list of intervals where the adjacent intervals are merged together. the code assumes that the intervals do not overlap and that a <= b in all pairs (a, b). Intervals (a,b) and (c,d) are adjacent if b + ...

Q: New to javascript

user3247128So I've only been learning Javascript for the past 4 weeks, and I have been understanding it throughout the first few book chapters. However, I keep getting questions that aren't very related to the book yet. I will attach the question as an image. Now I know that numbers cannot be a string. If ...

Q: Why is this program erroneously rejected by three C++ compilers?

James McNellisI am having some difficulty compiling a C++ program that I've written. This program is very simple and, to the best of my knowledge, conforms to all the rules set forth in the C++ Standard. I've read over the entirety of ISO/IEC 14882:2003 twice to be sure. The program is as follows: Here i...

@Quill you mean I should undelete it?
@SimonAndréForsberg No, just making an observation
didn't plan to undelete either
@jacwah Look at this answer.
@SirPython +1 for that

I honestly was not sure how to phrase it any better. I am open to suggestions. — Sean Perry 3 mins ago
Wait, is this serious? You can draw out a program and have it compile (on some compilers_?
@SirPython Everything is bits. Since you can have any colour, if you pick the write one and reinterpret the bits as ASCII, it's only normal that you can end up with a consistent sourc file.
Thanks, @200_success
If your using Piet
@Morwenn That's pretty cool.
23:23
For it to work as ASCII you would need an image format without a header though
