Sometimes, I'll see a Stack Overflow question, down vote, vote to close, and leave a comment requesting more clarification.
@Duga ouch, +1 since yesterday
@Duga O_O
And sometimes, when the user replies with what they think is helpful information, I'm disappointed that I already downvoted and close-voted, because I have this strong urge to do both again.
No mercy :P
@Jamal Shocked?
00:06
Yeah, kinda. I know it won't really hurt us since we're in the graduation queue, but it's still seems to be a high number.
What is it by percentage?
@Gemtastic People on Stack Overflow are helpless.
5% unanswered
@nhgrif Well, yeah. I'm one of them :(
I try to be less helpless though
@Jamal I agree. It is a high number.
which is why I made @Duga started to post them
Does anyone here know where I can RTFM on password hashing with Java?

Welcome to Stack Overflow. Please take the time to familiarize yourself with the Stack Overflow help file, which will help you understand what kinds of questions are appropriate for this site. This site is intended to help you obtain answers to specific programming questions, as opposed to providing tutorial, design or code review assistance. — MarsAtomic 1 min ago
@Duga Phew. False alarm.
@Duga you're a little overly attentive now ;P
@Gemtastic you try writing a bot that filters comments and you'll see how easy it is to get the right amount of attentiveness
Sorry, but it's insanely difficult
@SimonAndréForsberg I'm sorry it wasn't supposed to be a pik :(
I think it's amazing
I mean; I can't even has a password :(
There are still some that slips through though...

Morning Gents
Mornin m'lady
I never knew a lady to use the word "gents"
00:52
@Gemtastic blushed
@Hosch250 Now you do
Oh wait, I'm not a lady. Just a little miss :(
I know Mehrad isn't a lady, and presumably you aren't either.
Mehrad has a gf named Cyan (just let me know if you want me to delete this, @Mehrad).
I'd say it's a non Gentleman but that doesn't necessarily mean the one saying it is a lady. You can be simply humble and call the others Gentleman which is being a gentleman of you :)
There is such as word as "gentlemen" too.
@Hosch250 Not at all man. I am very impressed how good you remember the names
I wish I was like that
00:55
OK, I just remember things like that, not just names - in fact, I'm not too good at names.
very good in this one... I screen shotted it and sent it to Cyan :)
Thanks, hopefully she doesn't get mad at you for revealing her name.
I would, I'm very cautious about ID theft.
hahah.. no way. :)
I know. :/ it's a shame right? it this world we can't speak of ourselves much because of bunch of opportunistics
00:58

Not much of a hint ;)
@Hosch250 know ?
Nope, it isn't.
no no ... I just didn't get what you meant. :) is that hint about your name ? :)
Yep, that's the hint.
My name is not Amminadab.
emmm... let me think :)

No, just the 32-bit.
@Mat'sMug Where is the 64-bit installer?
on my machine... should I release an installer I know isn't working?
@Hosch250 I don't think there is one, because they haven't got it working
Well, I can't test it without it.
I don't know how to build it myself...
Rule #1: Don't release something that doesn't work.
01:30
@SimonAndréForsberg that's what I thought
Yeah, but am I to test the build?
Want to send it to me in a .zip?
Got a GDrive or OneDrive account, or something?
@SimonAndréForsberg Why does that even have to be a rule? That's kinda like the "WARNING CONTAINS NUTS" on the peanut bags...
On the other hand... most game-developers seem to ignore that rule nowadays...
Rule #2: Release early, release often.
@Mat'sMug Can you zip everything up and send it to me?
@Hosch250 sure, hold on

OK.

@mjolka So, how would I submit and track changes?

That would be handy for later, because now I have two solutions - one working one, and one with major changes.
Well, they are both "working", but one is not ready to be released.
03:57
@Hosch250 you can create a new branch using git checkout -- <branchname>. stage your changes using git add <filename> (or git add -u for all tracked files, git add -A for all files). then git commit

OK, so I have probably a couple hundred files now.
How would I go about moving an entire directory in?
Please ping me with you answer, I need to get to bed now.

@Hosch250 first make sure you have a .gitignore file in the root directory of your git repo
hopefully VS has created one for you, if not use this one raw.githubusercontent.com/github/gitignore/master/…
then git add -A to add all non-ignored files. i don't know how to do this through the VS interface

@MarkBaker That's not a valid off-topic reason for Stack Overflow and you shouldn't be voting to close a question on Stack Exchange site A just because you think it'd be on-topic on Stack Exchange site B. If you think a question belongs on a different site, you should (in the case of Meta, Superuser, Tex, DBA, or Stats) vote to migrate, or in the case of other sites not in this list (such as Code Review), you should be flagging for migration. Q: Node.js application file structure

Rax WunterHere is one of my node projects file structure. I'd like to find out the best structure for such kind of server services (API). For example mongoose models stored in models folder is obvious, but other classification is not obvious for me. Maybe it's justify to put other logic modules into one ...

I would personally consider only making one API of either. IO-bound operations should be async, CPU should be synchronous (with the ability to make them asynchronous through a task runner) and CPU + IO should be asynchronous with a note mentioning they are partially synchronous. See this blog for more info. While it's for C# I think it properly addresses how code should be organized when it comes to this. — Dan Pantry yesterday
@DanPantry IO should be async?
async/await in C# was created explicitly for IO operations, yes
I guess I just don't get it...
how's that?
Or it's probably just being said in a way that sounds completely backwards.

stop recording? overwrite existing ones...?
violently explode >=D?
@Pimgd If you can detect if before it occurs, stop recording and display a message and/or sound
That's... helpful for a camera maybe
this is a recording server somewhere in a datacenter
the message wouldn't be visible for a long time...
the sound, well, I'm not sure anyone is walking around there
Stop recording and send message with his urgence
Can the camera send an instruction to a server to send an email?
I guess that's a better plan
13:42
The camera should just send the data to be recorded... The server should take care to keep track that it still has space to record.
And it should send an email probably any time there is less than 24hrs of disk space (or some configurable amount measured I recording time, not disk space)
erhm
hmh
So you need to figure out your disk space to recorded time ratio.
2200 KB/sec/camera
afternoon
And the server needs to calculate, based on all its cameras, how much TIME until it's out of space
13:46
or roughly ~170 GB per camera per day.
I'm never gonna have that much space free on an instance
far more likely that I have a 20 minute buffer or so

And that's why I put a 100% lockdown on all feature requests in our old code base.

We will only touch old code base for work-stoppage level bugs.
If there's a workaround or if it's non-critical, it's not getting fixed unless it's in our new code base.
the VB code?
good call
Yes.
you don't want to be maintaining two parallel versions
its not two versions. It'll be 6 months or more before I even start the file I was fixing a bug in Friday.
It's just that the time it takes to fix bugs in the old code base is measured in days or weeks. New code base is minutes or hours.

this is for refund requests from a major money maker, and it kills the process because there is a bad email in there. I don't know why it hasn't been reported sooner.

And days and weeks fixing a bug in a file that will be completely rewritten in 6 months will turn 6 months into 7 months.
7 months into 8, etc.
@Mat'sMug @rolfl @JeroenVannevel there are 2 config files in this project.... "AppSettings" and "Web" which one do I put my email stuff in....lol such a mess, there are settings in the AppSettings file for the Mail client already, but I think that it should go in the web.config instead...

That's the beauty of software development.... they made mistakes, but those problems are now yours ... ;p

but one hand is tied behind my back, because I am not allowed to fix it all, I have to take the quick route and add to the mess....it sickens me...
@Malachi and then you get the "we're not a software shop, just get it to work" argument.. been there... beware: it slowly eats your sanity away...

@Mat'sMug I am hoping to escape...
It's the penal system you work for, right? They're good at restricting mobility ;)
