There are many things wrong with this code, it is hard to know where to even begin. Perhaps strip the socket and network communication code down to a pure console based system so that it at least works, then post that stripped down code to codereview.stackexchange.com for review so it can be improved to the best possible condition, then try creating your UI with the all of the network stuff stubbed out and get that working exactly as you want, then work on removing the stubs and integrating all the pieces. — jewelsea 57 secs ago

@Hosch250 if this was 2010 It'd be "This. Is. CODE REVIEW!"

@Pimgd Only a mod can kick though.

@N3buchadnezzar Seems to work fine for me

Never used that before

All right, let's seee
Contents
Project Euler 1: Multiples of3and5
Project Euler 10: Summation of primes
... I think you're missing a couple solutions
oh, and the contents are clickable

I have them on seperate files, working on 1 now So I did not bother including the rest

but it doesn't work

@Pimgd The pdf should work
The title in the colorboxes are also links ;)

When I click on the title of the chapter on the "Contents" page, it doesn't jump to that page

Yeah, I think you have to download the pdf to make that work.

8:24 PM
@Pimgd Yeah when I open the PDF in Dropbox the internal links don't work, but if I download it and open it with Edge or Acrobat they do

indent level is wrong
> It is straight forward to iterate over the first1000numbers and check for divisibility.
Is indented 1 level too many

Not decided if I want the code to be flush with the text or indented one extra layer. That is why it is changing a bit.
I think I might go for flush. However that leaves a lot of whitespace on the right.

why are you making this tho

who knows

@N3buchadnezzar PE1 reads a lot easier this way than it did with the \$\sum_{n=1} limit/k\$ type syntax

Tried strip it down to focus on the most important bits. Hopefully the figures also helps some :p Idk

yea the list of ROs seems a bit outdated
there's malachi, rolfl and nhgrif, who have been "absent"-ish for quite a bit now
aside from that there's only Phrancis, me and the mods
(or to be more correct, the mods except 200 and janos)

I see Malachi on more often than the others

@Vogel612 Well yes, hence the question ;)
Take it to meta?

Appointing new ROs should probably be discussed on meta or with mods

I'd say the latter

@Pimgd You've been talking a lot in the room recently

have I really not been doing my job that much

meta activity and chat activity don't really overlap that much

RO is more about being present regularly rather than [necessarily] being very active
3

^^ that
but it also includes keeping calm and maintaining order in the room gently
Also chat moderation may or may not change in the near future. The last town-hall chat gave some interesting perspectives I think
and it's been a sore spot for active chat users since quite a while

8:39 PM
@Vogel612 I need to go and check out the transcript, I missed the discussion entirely

@Vogel612 200 pops by time to time though.

I don't know why... it feels more natural?

@Vogel612 Yeap, it's gonna slow me down haha

It's faster. Chat generally is faster and being slow is a problem. That's why you split up messages

@Pimgd That's what I do when I text people
And kinda in here

Please don't spam chat :P

We are not spamming the chat, honest =)

also since the lines are shorter by doing that it allows to have less content in one line, which is easier to grasp when reading / skimming

Q: First, small game with pygame

MaciejjyI have finished my first project for Python. I would be very gratefull if you could check it and give me some feedback. Just simple game with possibility of replay. Probably lots of mistakes and code could be half the size, but I just started with programming. :) I tried this game on few compute...

8:59 PM
@Phrancis actually using that combination of words makes you one
because computers are independent of operating systems

Ah right, technicalities
IIRC one only needs 20 rep anywhere on the network to be able to write on chat @Vogel612?

SO rep separate

OK great thanks

mse rep too I think
it could be possible that SO rep and MSE rep flow over to chat.SE but chat.SO requires SO rep

@CaptainObvious First, bad title

9:05 PM
You mean "First, bad title with undescriptiveName"

Also not sure if it's only sometimes broken, or always broken, I think probably the former... "I tried this game on few computers and unfortunatelly I was unable to run it on some older laptops. Also issues with resolution on some computers and I don't know how to fix this."
pygame is in part a graphics library isn't it?

I dunno
I think it handles some 2d stuff...?

Sounds about right

@N3buchadnezzar Just curious did you have a more optimized version / suggestion?

@rolfl @200_success @Mat'sMug Happy Canada day :D

9:09 PM
@Legato Well yeah, But my idea for optimizing it further did not bear fruits so I gave up

@Marc-Andre Yay \o/

Hiya @Marc-Andre nice to see you here :)

My idea was to simply iterate over the palindromes, and checking whether it was prime.

Isn't that a no? What was your idea?

@Phrancis You're still Canadian so Happy Canada day :D

9:10 PM
:D

@Vogel612 And hey :D

from primesieve import Iterator

def isPalindrome(num):
    num_str = str(num)
    return num_str == num_str[::-1]

def biggest_palindrome_prime_faster(limit):
    it = Iterator()
    it.skipto(limit)
    prime = it.previous_prime()
    while prime > 0:
        if isPalindrome(prime):
            return prime
        prime = it.previous_prime()
@Legato This one is quite a lot faster than yours.

@Marc-Andre I'm going to get that update done as soon as I can.

@Marc-Andre Happy Canada Day to you too!

@EBrown No problem ! Got a ton of stuff to do :D

9:11 PM
Me too, haven't even been home the past 3 days.

There's a primesieve class built in? haha
It's probably optimized to use C, otherwise I don't recognize why that would be faster.

@Phrancis I've just returned from a "demenagement"/removal/moving so god I'm tired. I really don't know why we still continue to all moved the same day.

Thanks for sharing.

@Legato might use a different sieving algorithm

... I just tried to stir up shit in another chatroom for the lulz and I've managed to turn it into a productive discussion instead

9:15 PM
Is there a way to find out? @Vogel612

help

@Marc-Andre That always intrigued me as well why so many people move places/homes on July 1, also don't know if it's just a Quebec thing or all of Canada

@Legato Uses a optimized sieving algorithm which basically is machinecode optimized. Uses a multithreading 235 sieve if I remember correctly.
You can use pip install primesieve if you are on windows. Otherwise sudo is the way to go.

@Phrancis I think it's just Quebec.

Interesting, does 'machine code optimized' mean it uses machine code directly or that it somehow restructures it in anticipation for how the machine would handle it?

That is the results from the speedtest. I compared first 10**5 then 10**3.

Really curious about how the alg works, hm.

@Phrancis Canada synchronizes their moves, as well?
That's so polite.

9:18 PM
Can you compare against the updated version not that I anticipate much difference.

@EBrown it's all good until you need to try and rally your friends to help you move and they're all already helping someone else move

Thanks again for sharing @N3buchadnezzar

Why did I get messaged about spam?

It's a web form validation process. At each step of the process, the functions perform their own layer of validati...

@Legato Sieving primes is really not the way to go though

@N3buchadnezzar Looks like you just recently passed 10K network rep, which means now you get notified of flags in chat

I think It should be much faster generating odd palindromes and checking for primality.
@Phrancis Gosh darnit, needs to donate more rep then I guess.

hm
Go backwards, check if palindrome and then check if prime?

9:24 PM
@N3buchadnezzar There's probably a way to ignore them though, maybe with a userscript or something, in case they annoy you. In most cases I just ignore them unless I'm familiar with the room they were flagged in

I think I'll test how often palindromic numbers occur vs primes
to know which to check first

@Phrancis I just got rickrolled by my first a chat flag notification. I feel violated.

LOL

@N3buchadnezzar conga rats, you're officially a poor 10k user that rants about chat moderation :D

conga rats, hehe.

9:26 PM
@Phrancis And try to find a parking or just drive on small road. Truck and trailers everywhere! It's just hell on earth that day

Did someone say conga?

@Phrancis Nobody said conga.

@N3buchadnezzar not available in Germany. congrats you failed

@N3buchadnezzar I don''t know what is worse: that you Rickrolled me, or that I knew it and clicked it anyways...

What is global rep useful for except getting randomly rickrolled by chat flags?
^ serious question

9:32 PM
just that

^

and the fact that you can see fires burning in the network, if you're into that kinda thing
grabbing popcorn usually is an appropriate response

I suppose SE needed to use a more general metric than site-specific rep for chat

... You could also try and contribute to the fire /s

9:33 PM
Yeah, just flag all the things.

usually blue invasion helps against that

That would very quickly cause a blue invasion.
And probably a room suspension.

However flags in other chatrooms means we can do whatever we want in here

this discussion is dangerous, I want to flag all the things now

That way if there's a fire to put out on, say, PPCG chat, and there are no mods or ROs present there, other people on the SE network can help

9:34 PM
Can we flag all the things?

@Pimgd Depends how badly you want kicked or banned ;)

@Pimgd usually results in suspensions, but go ahead

@Pimgd I flag all the time. Flags are those stars right?
3

If I start flagging things now I score myself an internet darwin award
I'mma flag all the things!

So flags are for offensive things

I tend to disagree, but I won't fight with the room owners and mods.

@Pimgd I can donate

(I'm not, though)

After all, they have an advantage.

there, problem solved =)

@Hosch250 it would be tasteless to abuse it...

9:40 PM
The advantage or the stars?

the advantage

So, today I learned mods eat stars

@Phrancis ROs can cancel stars. it's a bit annoying, because the UI is in the context menu of the starwall and only there

The best thing about having moderation advantages is when you get to not use them =)

What other sekrit weapons ya got?

9:42 PM
@Pimgd Mods gotta eat too.

@Vogel612 Yeah I know

@Vogel612 this is like murder from a CR perspective

Q: Moving Android animation code into separate classes

AndyRoidI have a very specific question regarding animations in android. If I have a lot of animation code inside an Activity, View, or Fragment can I refactor that code into another class? Currently I have classes which contain around ~1000-2000 lines of animation code. I can't post the source here for ...

Moving stars would be nice though

in Tavern on the Meta on Meta Stack Exchange Chat, Jun 22 at 17:24, by rand al'thor
We even have a special keyword ("tacos") to mean "this conversation is straying into potentially dangerous territory; let's change the subject".

that's Mos Eisley only

Since when were stars dangerous?

just like cabbage is SO-Python specific

9:46 PM
talking 'bout this sort of thing (mod abilities) is just gonna trigger me to provoke something

I find it quite funny I earned 10k almost all from asking dumb questions about dumb things.

I'mma go grab a muffin

@N3buchadnezzar you'd be surprised how much rep you can get by doing that

@N3buchadnezzar the only dumb question is the question that's never asked

This looks like a homework problem. As such, you should probably post your attempt. And Re: "came out with a very complicated solution", if it works, you might want to try putting it on codereview.stackexchange.com as it would be a more on-topic question for their format I believe. — mgilson 39 secs ago
