UK Postcode is simply "?A#?[]#AA" Where A is any letter, # is any number, ? is any letter or any number, and [] is an optional space, depending on how restrictive you're feeling.

CA postcode is even simpler: A#A #A# or A#A#A#

@Kaz regexing that would be fun hell.

At a job I worked at a few years ago (remember SNAP, anyone? ;), which handled accounts across USA and Canada (and also had a drop-down selector), Canadian postal codes caused all sort of issues

It'd be simple, but it'd look long and dirty.

Kaz
@arda There is an official government-supplied regex for it.
Yes, it is horrible.

@Phrancis pretty sure to blame whoever idiot wrote that SNAP crap instead

> (GIR 0AA)|((([A-Z-[QVX]][0-9][0-9]?)|(([A-Z-[QVX]][A-Z-[IJZ]][0-9][0-9]?)|(([A-Z-[QVX‌]][0-9][A-HJKPSTUW])|([A-Z-[QVX]][A-Z-[IJZ]][0-9][ABEHMNPRVWXY])))) [0-9][A-Z-[CIKMOV]]{2})
Official government regex right there

@Kaz That could use a splash of verbose regex mode

Kaz
I like that there's a specific check for GIR 0AA, makes me wonder what's there.

Is "GIR 0AA" a special case where it gets its own grouping all by itself?

> GIR 0AA - special case Postcode for Girobank at Bootle

Kaz
Ah, it's because there's no number in the outer block.

That's like canada having H0H 0H0 as a postal code (for santa ofc)

7:14 PM
yep. that's Santa's.
all Canadian kids know that.
and he does write back

That's way too much code with a too unspecific question. Also for code quality questions Code Review is a better site — UnholySheep 1 min ago

Kaz
@arda That's the most Canadian thing I've ever read.

@Mat'sMug ........that's scary

it's Canada Post marketing at its finest

lol I remember that

Kaz
7:17 PM
Ours is XM4 5HQ, much less fun.

well it does spell "XMAS HQ"

@Mat'sMug what is the entire address?
might have my kids write to him this year

my nephew doesn't believe but he doesn't say anything, so it would be kind of funny to have him write to Santa and get a letter back and be like I thought he wasn't real...lol

> The postal service responds each year to tens of thousands of children's letters from around the world addressed to Santa Claus, North Pole, H0H 0H0, Canada.

7:29 PM
@Mat'sMug now you know why your postal rates are so high

lol
$0.00 - same I pay everytime I go to the hospital

Only left to figure out is why the postal rates in The Netherlands are so high then :D
I wonder if people are just mailing drugs at times lol

@skiwi Inefficiency from PostNL, or whatever they're called nowadays.
And yes, people are mailing drugs.
In CD cases covered with coffee beans, preferably.

@Mast preferably? are you saying that is how you like them sent?

Yyyyyyyyyup, that's some code. Did you want a code review? Does this code work? Is it throwing an error in certain circumstances or all the time? Literally any bit of context would help this question, though it may take quite some doing to make it answerable. — Adam Smith 32 secs ago
