So just run it auto-commit and leave it at that?
@Phrancis if you don't wrap it in a transaction it should default to a shared lock which is pretty much the same as doing that
Gotcha, thanks!

Q: Wordsearch Generator

SuperBiasedManFor fun I decided to make an algorithm in Python that would create a 2D list of a specified size that it can populate with a list of words and fill the gaps with random characters. Basically a wordsearch. You supply it with the words, optionally a size and then a count of how many times to retry...

@nhgrif That is not necessarily a problem. I've seen Code Review questions on SO in the past and answered those, knowing they are off-topic.
Not often, but still.
That you (and others) do it doesn't make it right or encouraged.
On SO, there are so many things wrong you just make do with what you have.
If I can help someone who posted with good intentions, why not. The site was already trashed anyway.
But I can imagine we want to keep CR clean for as long as possible so we shouldn't condone it.
I am trying to write a follow-up to a proposal I made to the C++ standard, but organizing it is hard -_-
> "If it stinks, change it." -- applies equally to child-rearing and software development.

I don't want to break my child's interface for legacy reasons.

Q: Modifying pointer to object via paramter or return type

CoffeeandCodeSay I have the following types defined: class window; class context; using window_handle = std::unique_ptr<window>; using context_handle = std::unique_ptr<context>; and some functions: window_handle make_window(); context_handle make_context(); I'd like to know if it is good practice for me...

Q: Has two objects "equivalent" values?

Yann BertrandI have two objects, a bet and a match. A match has 2 teams and both teams get a score at the end of the match. A bet has two scores set up before the match begins. Here I need to know if the bet specified the same winner as it's set on the match (once it's done). // isGoodWinner // // @descripti...

Q: Loading Authorization Permissions for Web Application

drderpI've recently started on a decently large project, and I've run into a snag. I need to be able to allow an administrator on the site to define and construct permissions for everyone else on the website. @PaulMcKenzie After further code review, all signs indeed point to SIOF. There are build warnings that mention initialization order (not sure why I neglected to examine those earlier), static objects constructed referring to other static objects, and of course the segfault is within the static initializer. I'm actually a consultant rather than a developer on the project (literally none of the code is mine), but I'll pass this info on to the developers and help them (many novice programmers) address it. If SIOF is indeed the issue I'll post an "answer" here for future reference. Thanks! — honkaboy 26 secs ago

@Aeailmuawe What's wrong with this one?
I didn't say there's something wrong with this one.
@Aeailmuawe what do you mean exactly by "like this"?
A place where people can help review your code
21:04
github, friends, reddit...
make your code open source and ask someone to have a look at it. that's all it takes, I believe.
HI. .. bye! Lobby wifi
Stupid Stackoverflow. It auto-selects this answer even though it doesn't solve the solution. Great. By the way "Automatically committing anything" is your opinion, if you have code reviews on every single commit it's perfectly acceptable to do that. @CaptainObvious You don't say.
Welcome to Code Review. Please, edit your title to reflect what the code does and not what you did in the code. You can use the textarea to describe your improvements over an old question (if it exists). — Ismael Miguel 22 secs ago
Hope it is good enough
it's kinda confusing
21:31
How should I re-frase it?
"reflect what the code does and not what you did with the code" ... probably something like ... "Edit your title to reflect the goal of the code instead of your concerns about it"
His concerns?
There's nothing talking about any concerns
Oh

@SirPython Oh... I still don't get it (much).
But don't bother
sed
I cant type
s/cant/can't
I don't do sed
21:39
You can still understand the meme.
A little
Don't bother with it
Today is not a good day for explanations
Tomorrow I won't remember
sed is a Unix/Linux tool. s is the substitute command.
That makes more sense
So if I have typo.txt which contains the line "I cant type"
and I run the command
sed typo.txt s/cant/can't
We'll see "I can't type" print
(Or something like that(
Now I get it
But as i said, today is not a good day and tomorrow I'll forget it all

Q: Tag Info Usage can we levrage it for code review

Loki AstariI just checked the tag Info for C++ http://codereview.stackexchange.com/tags/c%2b%2b/info Its basically a copy of the C++ Tag Info from stackoverflow. I was expecting more like a terminator-machine, but less muscled :D

nah, he looks in his 30s

@maaartinus Except it wasn't funny. At least to me
OK, no laugh but it wasn't really boring either. Surprising. Maybe a good thing for people already listening to the n-th talk.
In that way, yeah it was a good break
What's worse: At 12:00 still nothing interesting.

I also disagree with having a database dependance, however I feel that it would important to note the 1000 input limit set forth in php 5.3 ( if memory serves me ) as a fix to the hashdos problem.
