My grandma is going to burn candles for me
to make sure I won't be cut in pieces
(her words)

Are you coming to the US now?

I sure hope there's an anti-piece-cutter-saint
You mean for the internship? I haven't heard a response from any of the companies yet
Though she's referring to my trip to Argentina (I leave tomorrow)

There's some colour-changing sleeves to protect your surface too... here, on the BBC - bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/article/33253890/… - should help with the cutting-to-pieces too.

I passed all my exams this semester so after the two exams I have to retake in August, I'm free to go where I want to
-- for an internship
@rolfl That's actually really interesting..

4:04 PM
@JeroenVannevel How bad is Argentina with drugs criminals etc.?

@nhgrif Is it an interesting area to live in?

@JeroenVannevel Define interesting?

@nhgrif They use Maven and Gradle but not Java? Interesting
And they develop on Android, but the only programming languages are C# and ASP.net ^^

@skiwi Fairly safe for a South American country but the traffic is apparently very bad. The Belgian embassy warns to avoid streets at night
And my parents their biggest fear is that I'll be turned into a drug mule

@skiwi Wow.

4:06 PM
@JeroenVannevel Is it worse than Belgium?

@JeroenVannevel Tennessee is interesting ... For some values of interesting.
Nashville is a great town.

@nhgrif Is it suburban soccermom-topia? Because I would love to live in a vibrant city for once (Seattle, NYC, that kind of stuff)

eating alone in the boardroom, meeting at 12:30. smile, you're on a 72-inch flatscreen :)

But Country music is everywhere - literally.

@skiwi mmmhmmmm

4:08 PM
I want to get away from the cities - I'm in a suburb of St Paul, and I think there are too many people around.

@JeroenVannevel It's not Seattle/NYC at all.

@Phrancis Country music drives me absolutely insane. I probably couldn't live there.

Decision made. I am away nexxt week, but taking work laptop with.... booking a week of half-days ;-)
3
No good loo, but the internet works, that's all that matters.
My parents have booked tickets. they land on the 8th July.... and my life will change forever

I assume you are planning on running for mod again.
So, you'll definitely need the internet.

The rocks people hide under ;-)

2 days ago, by rolfl
I should also announce that I will not run as a moderator in the elections.

4:11 PM
@nhgrif I'll keep it in mind, though city life is an important aspect for me right now

tinder is everywhere, though.... ;-) !!!

@JeroenVannevel For what it's worth, I'm not at the Tennessee location. I'm at the Arkansas location.

Oh, what's up?

It's like a 20-40 minute drive into Little Rock, depending on traffic.
Plenty of people in this office live in Little Rock.

I've lived in a peaceful little town for 22 years now and the city just feels more.. alive.

4:12 PM
Town the office is in has 60k people roughly.

We are keeping Jamal anyway, (if we elect him).

This may not be the best place to ask this, you should probably try codereview.stackexchange.comDavid Watts just now

Little Rock is about 200k population.

I hope to see over a dozen candidates

Has the Bill Clinton museum/library/etc, whatever he's set up down there.

4:13 PM
200k.. That would make it Belgium's 3rd biggest city

My first votes will go to any of our pro-terms that run for mods.

You could easily live in Little Rock and commute to the office... if you drive.

@EthanBierlein mine too!

Or live in Conway and go to Little Rock on the weekends, etc.

I live in Minneapolis MN. There are about 400K+ people there.

4:14 PM
I doubt I'll have my license by that time, though I have no problem biking or bussing
Gotta go for a bit -- parents require conversing

I don't think there's a bus to/from Little Rock to Conway.

@Hosch250 Of-course we elect him.

Gota go for a bit, kids require grazing.

We do, does the silent majority?

@JeroenVannevel Google says it's a 3h12m bike ride...

4:16 PM
Hi, @200_success. You are the only mod I don't know if they are running again. Jamal is, and rolfl isn't.

I briefly considered running for a mod. In the end I decided that I will most likely wait until the next election.

@EthanBierlein why?

I'm still debating.
I might not be able to give the full 30 min per day 365 days a year, but I can most of the days.

@Mat'sMug I decided that I haven't been as active as I can be, and I'm still don't have many of the privileges that mods should have.
Although, if someone can give me a good reason as to why I should run, I'll consider it again.

I have them, now. Won't once the privileges go up.

4:20 PM
You'll have better luck here: codereview.stackexchange.comDavid 40 secs ago

Hmm. I'm now back to debating this....

@EthanBierlein running doesn't make you a mod. And we gotta blow SE staff away with 20-some candidates and a 2-turns election with twice the voting of any other graduating beta-site election!

LOL.
That settles it.

@Mat'sMug I know that.

@EthanBierlein and you have more rep than Jamal had when he was appointed

4:23 PM
Aaargh. This is an extremely hard decision.
I can fufill the 30 minutes a day, most days.

> For CR!

Hmm. I'm gonna think on this. I will have an answer by tomorrow.

You have all weekend
I'm hoping to see surprise candidates from the silent majority, too
3

Makes two of us.

I bet that CR will have the best election turnout in SE history.

Meeting starting, bbl

God I hate the BBC website. I wanted to read on the US healthcare decision and I had to scroll all the way down to find a single video on the subject

C U LATER @Mat'sMug BAI

All I'm asking for is a nice navigation bar that shows me the different sections of news

I hate news sites in general. They are badly designed and always take over 5 minutes to load.

I get my news from the Bing homepage, when I want it.

4:58 PM
the BBC website is pretty good still because they're not allowed to use ads (and the website is very performant)
it's just a bad UX

I get my news from a web scraper that runs as a background process for 12 hours each day.

@JeroenVannevel The US healthcare decision didn't fix the problems they said it would (and they knew it all along, too), and it caused a bunch more problems.
Typical politicians.

That's a little vague

Oh god, politics. Goodbye.

They said it would fix the issue where employers could drop employees from their healthcare plan in some circumstances (usually they weren't able to pay the fee because they were really sick and couldn't work).
I don't know much else about it, but my parents were originally for it, until the it was finally passed and nothing changed except you have a limited choice of doctors based on your insurance plan, and now they're mad.
Anyone have a link to where I can download the results of an SE election?

@EthanBierlein You have that right, good luck!

@Mast Thank you! :)
Ooh! I'm now in the top 100 users!
Hello @Quill

For all those thinking there will be swag for the election runers, there will not.... Not even the last folks to run in the most recent SO elections got swag.... but, instead, people who participated in the chat room did.

What chat room?

I don't want swag. I'd like to be a moderator, or in the least, a candidate for a moderator position.
I want to be a valuable, contributing member of this great community.
That's the main reason I'm running.

TimStack Exchange just tweeted this image: #LoveWins #LoveOverflows Please can this be made the logo for a couple of days? I'm thinking Stack Overflow and the localised ones. I've made a SVG format - here it is. And here is a toned down one for Meta.
