Q: Can I shorten this rather lengthy RegEx?

David GardI've have the following RegEx which matches any of a selection of inputs (see the list below). While it works fine, I'm wondering if there is a better way of writting it, as it looks a little dirty. I've been using various RegEx builders but couldn't come up with a shorter version, so any tips ...

Re-raising errors This is rather ugly: Err.Raise Err.Number, Err.source, Err.Description, Err.HelpFile, Err.HelpContext Per MSDN, Err.Raise can "rethrow" an error much cleaner than that: All of the Raise arguments except Number are optional. Nice praise

Does anyone have an official announcement of CRs graduation?
I could use that to prevent my post from being duplicate

Don't remember. We were told on the chat that we would graduate some day but that there are many other site designs to do meanwhile.

Q: Code Review Graduation

rolflI am pleased to announce that effective from September 22, Code Review has graduated! It has taken a bit of time for this announcement to filter through the red tape, so, today was the day we found out. Let's use this as a place to discuss, celebrate, and otherwise commiserate. Notes: Code Rev...

Lacking anything better, that would do it I guess

Don't post a new question. Post an answer to that question with an update on our grad status.
That will bump that question up and get it some new attention and more votes.

@nhgrif That would modify the question though, we want to nuke review as well

@nhgrif or make an edit

Q: Code Review SE is graduating!

PopsMany of you have already seen announcements both on main and on meta announcing this site's graduation. At the request of a few of you who were skeptical (or perhaps merely in shocked disbelief), I'm here to confirm that yes, the Community Team has indeed decided that Code Review should graduate....

@SimonAndréForsberg Thanks!
I could make an answer and see what happens ofc, but technically it wouldn't be an answer.
But hey, it's meta, many answers fit a discussion

Hmm I wonder how many people get swag. I'm on the third page.

@Donald.McLean I think only the first page

Setting up GitLab is a hell...
You cannot run it on domainname.com/gitlab
You can only run it on a FQDN

Not even proxied?

2:37 PM
And their developers refuse to support it
@rolfl No... we tried a lot
A big problem is that GitLab itself wants you to supply the FQDN via a config file, and it doesn't do anything with relative links

Do they supply a reason?

Haven't found one so far

I have done battle with many systems like that, it's a PITA..... normally the issues are related to CSS/JS/ and other resources that have links in the pages you return.

It's a piece of software that works when it works, but if something fails, it fails horribly

Many times you can fix it with an HTTPReplace process, but not always.

2:38 PM
I'd still recommend it, but just leave it alone on its own FQDN and it will be okay

Good to know

I also know a lot more now lol

A: Remove the [code-review] tag

Mastreview and code-review should both be burned. According to this and this posts, CR is technically graduated. Any allegations of CR not being a full member of the SE community hold no ground. Except for that, as the original question states code-review is of-topic for StackOverflow. review is ev...

@jonrsharpe Just wanted to say thank you, for mentioning that a description of what the code is supposed to do would be nice. If this question were posted on Code Review at its current state, I would definitely vote to close as "unclear what you are asking", because of the complete lack of description about what the code does. — Simon André Forsberg 22 secs ago

"kick stand".

I've had that bike for over 10 years by now and I only noticed a few months ago that it has that stand

3:15 PM
Sure it's your bike?

Pretty sure

I know the folks in your part of the world often get confused about these things, and assume that just because they know the combination, or the key fits, that the bike must be theirs.

It's still got the bike registration I had put on in elementary school
though technically it was my dad's bike then

@JeroenVannevel Perhaps wouldn't hurt to actually remove the kick stand, if you just now noticed it you apparently never really needed it

Huh, here's a pile of 4000 bicycles.... OOhhh... this one must be mine, the key fits.

FWIW, Azure is the most compelling MS "thing" they have delivered in a very, very long time.

@Morwenn @Mat'sMug Since when is suggesting alternative approaches non-answers? Can anyone point me to a meta post that says that that answer is a bad answer?

I agree with this comment ^
> Without any comments on why this approach would be better than the approach used by the OP, this is not a valid answer, as it's not a code review. – Pimgd 3 hours ago

Downvote it if you want, but it is an answer.

> This does not provide an answer to the question. To critique or request clarification from an author, leave a comment below their post. – tim 1 hour ago

The answer does not deserve to be deleted.

Azure app services now.

@SimonAndréForsberg the VLQ queue didn't have a "convert to comment" option

It does provide an answer to the question. It provides an alternative approach. It doesn't really matter if it is better or worse, adding motivation for why to use the approach would certainly improve the answer, not affect its validness.
@Mat'sMug So you solve that by deleting the answer entirely?
Was there not a downvote option? Was there not an edit option? Would it not have been enough to comment?

4:10 PM
> Your undelete vote has been recorded.

that's all I ask ^^ :)
I think we are sometimes too aggressive with deleting answers.

Got it.

and I think we are sometimes too loose with accepting VLQ posts. be it one-liner questions or "do X instead" answers.

I believe CR answers should be reviews, and yes suggesting an alternative approach is perfectly fine... when the answer explains why OP's approach sucks and alternative is better.

I think we have different definitions about what a review is.

these upcoming elections will be fun :)

What does .NET for OSX/Linux mean, exactly?

What do you mean?

it means your VB.NET ERP can eventually run on Linux :)

4:18 PM
VS for OSX and Linux!

VS dev tool on mac and linux..

Does it mean I can write and compile .NET on my OSX machine? Does it mean that programs that previously only ran on Windows via .NET can now run on OSX?

It's not the real VS though, seems something like an advanced sublime text

@nhgrif Eventually.

@nhgrif yes, pretty much. Some things like WPF or windows-specific things don't work though

4:18 PM
It is not complete yet.

They extracted the core of .NET in the coreclr (which is very extensive)
and the coreclr already runs on linux/mac
he's writing C# on Mac and Linux now

WPF is a wrapper around DirectX. I predict there will be an implementation that wraps whatever other portable library there is

So now owning an OSX machine just got that much better than owning a Windows machine? There is nothing I can't write code for on my OSX machine and there's one more way to write multi-platform apps that run on OSX?
And you still can't write OSX/iOS native apps outside of OSX?

@nhgrif Yeah, what's cool, is tha tyou can sit on your ubuntu system, write C# code, and deploy it to an android device ;-)
