Why is my DBA asking me whether or not he should create a FK or duplicate data :s
also my colleague just got this exception..
System.InvalidOperationException: Operation is not valid

Wow, such helpful message.
Very explain.
To be clear, this isn't an exception that was half-assed by an internal dev, it's an exception thrown by sharepoint lol

Zak
We're currently looking to acquire small Financial Advice people/companies
So, say, a one-man-band with a book of clients
One of the directors gave me a company, asked me to find out what I could about it
Comparing my predictions before, with the actual figures they gave us after meeting, I called their AUM (the really important number) spot-on
And pretty damn close on their profitability
I said AUM of £20-30M, is about 25M
I said profits £150k-£250k + (probably) £50k-£100k
is about £300k

Greetings, Programs.

@Zak Indeed! :p You're a spy or something like that for today

@Zak There's a Area51 proposal for a site about finding hidden information. It's not doing very well though.
67
Deep Web

Proposed Q&A site for deep web lovers. Mysterious levels above level 3.

Currently in definition.

@Mast No one can find it, that's why.

Zak
@Mast That's not really about finding hidden information so much as "all-things-TOR"

@Zak But that doesn't sound as edgy as "deep web".

Zak
2:58 PM
At least, based on all the example questions

@Zak Well, remember I said it wasn't doing so well?
They can't agree about a definition.
They named it Deep Web, but half the followers actually want Tor

There's a small amount of irony that the Deep Web can't get past Area 51.

Which already exists...

@Mast "30 more questions with a score of 10 or more" - that's not a good sign.

@Donald.McLean In my opinion, they should reboot the definition phase. In it's current state, it won't survive.
I'd definitely follow it if they'd struck all those Tor bull questions from the examples, those already have an SE.

Zak
3:02 PM
It definitely doesn't seem to have a clear definition ATM.
or, at least, the stated definition, and the scope of example questions are 2 separate areas.

oh hey there @DanPantry

hello @JeroenVannevel

What do you think of this:
const placeholderHelpers = {
	getCurrentValue:

	/**
	* Returns the actual value recorded in the BF_VALUES record
	*/
	function getCurrentValue(valueRecord) {
		return valueRecord.ValueData;
	}
}
aka: grouping a bunch of helper functions in an object

you could simplify getCurrentValue: function getCurrentValue() { .. } to just function getCurrentValue() { .. }
anyway I don't see much point, put a helper function in a file each (or even in an npm module if you so wish).
the functions aren't related in any other way than them being "helper" functions so I don't think they should be lumped into a single file.

that's what I thought too, but then it throws all kinds of errors

3:07 PM
$ node -v ?
if you're using v5.0.0 it will work

They're all different ways to handle different placeholders so they're not 'helpers' in the general sense
v4.2.1

yeah that's why
@JeroenVannevel then if they are related I would say put them all in their own npm module, like lodash does.
then you can do something like this:
var getCurrentValue = require('placeholders/getCurrentValue')
var getCurrentValue = require('placeholders').getCurrentValue;
or
but if they're all that simple then theres no issue keeping them all in the asme file.. just be careful that it actually makes sense to haev them like that.

I don't know yet about the others if they'll be much harder, I can see about that later
But you're not a fan of nesting them inside an object?

I don't see much point
The only relationship between them is that they are utility functions
either they should be in their own module or they should be with your models

I CAN USE A CLASS
Yes. Yes I should. And make them static functions!

3:12 PM
...which is just an object

at last. A reasonable okay use-case

class with static functions = object in clothing.

Yes, but it's prettier

no, its literally exactly the same

I don't like nude objects
I won't have to specify the key
which is what's throwing me off here

3:13 PM
a class is just a function with functions and properties specified on prototype.

Don't hate on my epiphany
Yes. But. No key.

static methods are just methods declared directly on the class function.
(also static methods aren't supported in node 5 let alone node 4.4 :P)

what?
I tried it out last time
everything worked

it works when transpiled
class Utilities {
  static foo() {

  }
}
won't work
...I lied
Guess it works now
Either way, again, that doesn't make sense. The only relationship between them is that they are utility functions.
You don't have to put them on an object.. just put them in their own files or as their own modules.

because I literally did it when I started with NodeJS and it worked just fine
I know you did
This was one of my test files: gist.github.com/Vannevelj/fc5a632cb2ec7310abc6

3:15 PM
yeah no I believe you I just tested, I remember it not working last time I tried it

Guys, what kind of music actually makes you feel happy? I get the feeling every songs I'm listenning at at the moment is bringing me down. So I'll ask fellow programmers-who-listen-to-music-almost-all-day

@TopinFrassi We do already have the new profile pages, unlike some of the established sites.

@TopinFrassi Was listening Ska this afternoon, but usually it's more like hard folk (or whatever you call folk going rough).

@TopinFrassi Music that I like. Sorry I can't narrow it down more than that, but I just like listening to music. Though mostly it's some form of rock/pop.

Although Simon & Garfunkel usually keep me relaxed, so that works when necessary.

@TopinFrassi Tunak Tunak Tun - Daler Mehndi

@Marc-Andre Ahahah
@Mast Yeah that's the thing, I don't feel like being relaxed. I need MAN-ERGY!!!!

I don't why but this song make me smile like an idiot :D

I got it! Flogging Molly it is. Good ol' "irish rock"
That's exactly what I need

@TopinFrassi Flogging Molly, Dropkick Murphys, yup.

@Marc-Andre I have a few that do that for me.
Basically anything with a good Harmony in it.

There's an example of a Reverse Polish calculator in Python on CodeReview. The Wikipedia article I linked above has a description of the algorithm and a step-by-step example. I can expand on stacks or Reverse Polish Notation or whatever else, maybe even try to make my own example here, if there is interest. — Two-Bit Alchemist 15 secs ago

If you want something really smoothing, there's this artist on Youtube, Adrian Ziegler.
It's modern Celtic.

A year back or so I put the orchestral version of Nightwish's Imaginaerium over the speakers. Boss liked it. Didn't tell him where it came from ^^

Q: 3 Mobile Apps, Shared Code Base vs Separate Code Bases for Each

aeroWe are currently looking at creating 3 different but similar hybrid mobile apps that will use the same server-side API and database. Is there an industry standard or preference to having all 3 apps share the same code base or each have separate code bases even though some of the same functional...

@CaptainObvious No code, dropping a comment

@Mast Sounds like my style. I'll check that out!

@Duga @BilltheLizard Normally when we see a comment like that, a Code Review user leaves a comment reply saying that you need to pick a valid reason why it's off-topic for Stack Overflow instead of making one up. But you're no ordinary Stack Overflow user, so I'd like to ask: is it time to redefine Stack Overflow's scope to explicitly exclude code review questions?

Super pings ftw?

This probably better for CodeReview SE — OMGtechy 37 secs ago

@Duga Code Review not CodeReview!!!

@EthanBierlein Don't kill the messenger.

I currently live on "Watermill" but our new house is on "Water Garden". Go figure.

Is there even water in your direct vicinity?

I'm voting to close this question as off-topic because as there is nothing wrong, it should be moved to codereview. — AlG 14 secs ago

@Mast Well, it's been raining all day.
