A: Add a link to the timeline of a post

Shog9Realistically, this particular view is only occasionally useful, and even less often used. I use a script to add a link to the timeline to every post. And I still almost never click it. The link does occasionally break page layouts though. I'm status-declining this until such a time as there's...

how warm should a CPU get?
or at least: how warm shouldn't it?

@JeroenVannevel Can you cook an egg on it?

3:02 PM
Can get hotter still.

all cores 97°C right now

Wow.. battery was 65% when I said we have no electricity. Now 38%

What CPU is it?

i7 4770k

I'm so not making it to lunch

3:03 PM
Modern CPU's will auto-shutdown when they get too hot.

97 celcius

I've had an i7-920 (early model) that got 95 degrees and that's okay, it's meant to be 105 max

...
Do you have a cooler on it

stock cooler, yeah

additionally, how are your fans

3:04 PM
I'd say it's ok for an i7-4770k only if it's running 100% for quite some time already and it is definitely not rising... and it should still be cooled better

and air intakes?
time to clean out some dust, I think =)

Ugh. Trying to star stuff.... just remembered I ran out 2 hours after reload yesterday :(

You mean fans?
Sure, 2 or 3

@Jaroen - why are you worried... what made you look?

I blame the meme-party that led to me changing my avatar again

=D The smell

As soon as I start playing LoL, my FPS constantly drops to 12 FPS

The smell of toasted dust

Instead of the 150 as it was 2 days ago

@JeroenVannevel There's no way LoL should be pressing the CPU to 100% or the temp to 97

Even watching youtube sometimes lags my PC

memory 71%, disk 0%

balphaWe're not sure whether we want to add it to comments. yeah, I think I'll open it up when I'm back from my trip
see what's cracking

As long as you don't leave it on meanwhile ;)
What trip you're going on now?

3:16 PM
Zürich, Vienna & Budapest
I leave tomorrow morning

That's quite a trip, for some time?

until.. the 7th of February I believe
going back to Belgium by plane

Planned anything there?

Enjoy it... sounds fun

This time I managed to convince a friend to come with me.
In Zürich (4d) we'll stay on 2 girls their couch
Vienna (2d) at a hostel
And Budapest (3d) hostel and one day at a hotel with some Budapestian girl I know
And I found out a friend of mine will be in Budapest when I'm there, so that's fun
Not much planned yet aside from a pub + club night and zoo in Budapest

Q: Setting Xbox One language to English, while setting region to a non-English country

Ivo CoumansMy Xbox profile region is set to The Netherlands, as I live there. However, I'd prefer to use my Xbox One in English. Unfortunately, the settings don't seem to offer the possibility to set the language and region to a combination that doesn't match. To remedy this so far, I've set my language to...

Seriously?

I like this English-not-your-first-language thing you have goong there.... @Jeroen:

Doesn't seem to be a dull trip there @JeroenVannevel :)

Though I did get invited by someone to go to a music event thing in Zürich, so I'll see about that

@rolfl That just sounds like there'll be 4 people on a single couch, at least that's how I perceive it :p

Oh my.... getting steamy in the 2nd monitor today.

My friend has a Swiss girlfriend, so he'll be out of the house some nights

@JeroenVannevel I just hope the trip will be a lot of fun for you!

Thanks, I do too!

Yes, I did. Not sure why, but what the heck.

I have to confess, that looking through the other nominations, it's really, really nice to see a field of people who are taking the election seriously, and that the caliber of the nominees are all so good.
No matter what happens, with just 2 spots available, and so many good candidates, there's going to be some disappointment.

I wonder how many spots we're going to have.. 3? 4?

@Pimgd wtf did I just walk into?

@SimonAndréForsberg TS

@SimonAndréForsberg Greetings

@Mat'sMug numSpots == numNominations / 2;

3:39 PM
Huh?

I presume, at some point, that discussion will need to happen, @Simon
(and @Mat).

@Mat'sMug just kidding. I have no idea how many spots we will have.

I thought about it a couple of months ago, how many mods does CR need?

I presume though that we actually have to graduate first...

Are the nominations for CR mods happening?

3:41 PM
At some point I expect the CM's will make a decision about how many to run with.

@nhgrif no, we're just speculating about them for when they do happen
@rolfl I'd actually say that we could use 4.

I assume they will approach us (the mods) to ask for input.
I have an insight in to other site moderation activities....

and can say, with some certainty, that CR has the most consistently active mods of all other sites I am privvy to.

one bad thing about our current situation is that all our mods are in the same time zone. or at least same world region (North America)

3:42 PM
^^^that's something that could be adressed, yes.

Need a European mod probably... Like Simon...

that being said, I am not sure if I will run for it or not. I can imagine @janos being a good moderator as well.
@rolfl I can imagine that. I am very proud of our mods. You really do an awesome job around here.

zzz

I think, in SE terms, though, we are unrealistic, and active beyond expectations.
SE expects mods to have downtimes, and inactivity, and a shorter active presence on average per day.

Sometimes I think, "How do our mods get anything done besides moderating this site??"
3

3:45 PM
Well, they don't.
Don't hire anyone with more than (uhh, let's see, where am I at right now...?) 7k rep, they're clearly spending more time on CR than work
3

Well, we do ;-)

@rolfl I've been wondering, are moderators allowed to have vacation? like for 2 weeks - 1 month?

Yes, of course...

I do think having someone either in Europe, or Australia/Asia region would be good, though the site is admittedly slower during those times, like in the wee hours of the night in Americas

@rolfl good, otherwise I'd definitely be out.

3:47 PM
so when are we gonna have elections

@Pimgd after we have our new graphic design and other stuff...

In the past 10 months (it's been that long), I am aware of times were we have all taken down-time spells.

@SimonAndréForsberg So 2018?

I went quiet for most of November last year.

I bet it will still take 6-8 5-7 months before we have our elections.
@rolfl you still managed to keep up your consecutive count though

3:49 PM
yeah, but it was like a "Oh, look, nothing happening!".

@rolfl the other mods probably got there first

we have settled in to a routine...

... I wooonder

I don't know how 200 does it... he's up so late...

is it possible to see when the review light was on?
and for how long?

3:51 PM
@Pimgd what review light?

Oh a funny note, it took the Mug 2.25 hours after RELOAD! to be out of stars:
13 hours ago, by Mat's Mug
@RubberDuck that's it. out of stars.

@rolfl and early in the mornings?

old image
but that at the top

@Phrancis @Malachi and @RubberDuck would have done it in half that time
3

@Pimgd - that's caching, and skipping

3:52 PM
I've been known to be out of stars by 10 pm...

No I don't want explanations why it does what it does

The review-button is seldom right.

@RubberDuck your time zone, I assume?

I'm just curious
When was the review-button light on, on CR, in January 2015?

@Pimgd you'd have to make a user-script for it that continuously refreshes the site and checks that.

3:53 PM
Oh, I understand what you're asking.

@Phrancis wtf were you guys doing last night?

I think if you can find a pattern in that then you'd know where you need more high rep users
Now apply the same thing to flags
and you'll be able to see where you need more mods

@SimonAndréForsberg Oh. Yeah. 3 hours past reload.

Meme-party happened

is that a good question for here?

3:59 PM
@Mat'sMug also interprettable as "I'm in the other room, moonshining"

@Malachi Seems that it's an OK question for SO too.

@SimonAndréForsberg sorry I was busy, I had to chop some wood after I worked all day Moving Pepsi around, and then going to a meeting for a new Christian school starting up next fall

Just because it could be on-topic here, does not mean it's off topic there.

I thought you might say that.
some of that stuff is hard to tell if it is off-topic there or not.
what about performance questions? I found one that I think is on-topic here but I am unsure of SO Topicness. I am reading their help page and that isn't helping much either.

If the question is: "What is the fastest way to .... ?" then it's probably on-topic there.
if the question is "Is this the fastest way ...?" then here.

I thought I flagged it for migration. I thought that maybe Mods talked to each other, and they probably do but haven't gotten to it. yet.
or that wasn't the one I flagged

Seems like a good candidate for migration indeed

@Malachi in that state I found it I'd have rejected the migration

@Vogel612 why?

I think that stays on SO...

@Malachi because it's unclear of doom, not actually interested in a review and if I understand correctly not really off-topic for SO

4:15 PM
If it is running slower than required, it isn't yet working as intended...

also it's bloated with fluff.
@nhgrif we had that discussion. Performance questions are on for codereview
the result is working

Yes, we can review performance if the current performance is already acceptable

@Vogel612 but for the requirement of being on-topic for SO it's "not working" , Right?

Technically, it's on topic for CR, but, I don't see why it's off-topic for SO.

@Malachi no, that's incorrect
please read through their help center and check their off-topic reasons
"not working" is just a fraction of SO questions

4:17 PM
> Questions seeking debugging help ("why isn't this code working?") must include the desired behavior, a specific problem or error and the shortest code necessary to reproduce it in the question itself. Questions without a clear problem statement are not useful to other readers. See: How to create a Minimal, Complete, and Verifiable example.

Meh, the problem with that question, is that it is doing System.out.println(....) 6.25 million times.

must include the desired behavior, a specific problem

and many people over there don't want these questions, because they result in no-effort codedumps: please debug my [huge load of crap code] for [a fuzzy error]

btw. @Malachi OP now said that the output is not the one they expected

@Vogel612 2 days lag?! Geez...

ya I was surprised, too...
when I set it up, I had just topped the 2k rep on SO
it showed 1.85k (T.T)

As a general note, about Migrations (@Malachi) .... ( on a 'personal hat' and only a small amount of 'mod hat' ) - migrations are an introduction for people to Code Review. We want that to be a good introduction. We also have the opportunity to 'invite' people in. I really think we should only request the best questions. There is plenty of crap on SO that is on-topic here, but, we want people who are good at presenting the code, and asking questions, etc.
2
Why go out of our way and request crappy questions when there is the opportunity to filter out the good stuff.

because as of now that question will die a gruesome death.

Hi, @Mat'sMug

@Hosch250 a view ties to a specific VM; a VM can be used by 1000 different views if you need it to

OK, so make one VM for all my data pages?

@Vogel612 That question is getting ugly...

I flagged it for mod-attention..
now let's hope OP has some sense in them and can actually form a coherent sentence describing their problem
> Extremely long and needless discussion in comments. OP seems to have a problem clearly stating what their problem is. A problem statement is missing. This is a long morning..

hmmm 611 on the wall, @Mat'sMug. Should I be afraid?

So, let's say I have an interface that requires a static method.

@SimonAndréForsberg Nope. Just look away for a week or two ;)

4:50 PM
And a base class where I don't want to implement that method.

@Mat'sMug For me this is an int afternoon.

@RubberDuck separate utility class
it's static after all

@SimonAndréForsberg lol

Shite....

@RubberDuck That doesn't make sense. Static can't be specified on an interface...

4:51 PM
I was afraid of that. Thanks @Vogel612.
@Mat'sMug Exactly...

@Mat'sMug it can in Java 8 ;)

@SimonAndréForsberg not that you should do it there either...

@SimonAndréForsberg Then Java8 is borked. It's sheer nonsense

or well, not 'specified', but you can have static methods in an interface.
@Vogel612 Comparable.(...) -- I don't see what's wrong with that

Static + OOP == soop

4:53 PM
@Mat'sMug meh.. overgeneralization

Yeah maybe. But still...

@Mat'sMug Ya know what? You're right. I defined that when I thought I was defining it as a Repository. Making it an instance method of a GitProvider is perfectly fine. No reason for it to be static.
Problem solved.

@Vogel612 I VTC'd the SO question as unclear

@RubberDuck There ya go!

that's a good idea... not I really should answer some SO questions to get to 3k
