Ouch...... really?
@janos I will just need 30 +10's today to get to cap, instead of the normal 20.

@rolfl but you can only get 20

I don't trust the source data, remember? and I don't trust the business processes to be consistent either, so... you gotta do whatcha gotta do!

True.

Meh, can't wait for captain obvious......

@rolfl if you give a bounty on a day, you can't get capped (I also tried that one day when I was gaining a massive amount of upvotes)

7:04 PM
are you announcing something or actually want a review?

Is this something official, or a huge troll?

I vote huge troll

@rolfl Are you freaking kidding me!?

September 22nd != April 1st, but you know that right?

September 22nd is my Birthday though, and if this is true I couldn't have asked for a better birthday present :)

@rolfl Huh?! You are one week in the past?

The Stack Exchange Code Review site (http://codereview.stackexchange.com/) is a great place to post beginner code and learn from experts! #DidYouKnow

I won't really believe it until @GraceNote posts it on meta

@skiwi You & me both.

OK, so, all hear me..... ;-)
We are graduating, but, graduation is a process.... quite slow, in fact.
The decision was made to graduate us on the 22nd Sept..... but, the process to make that actually complete, takes time.
So, we are now in / (at the back of) the queue.
currently the graduation queue is about 8 sites long, or something....
and they roll about 2 sites a month through the process.

7:12 PM
Being in that queue is all we ever wanted!
So around xmas then?
No, early 2015

deque.removeLast(CODE_REVIEW); deque.addFirst(CODE_REVIEW);

^^ lol

Has to be a actually...

It can take however long it would like, what is important is...

will graduation change anything about starring LOLs? What other effects will it have on our lives?

Code Review IS FINALLY GRADUATING! (in 6-8 weeks months)

(seriously, why haven't anyone pinned such a message already?)

@skiwi What kind of horrible queue would let you add in first position ;)

24
Q: What are the advantages of graduation?

palacsintI've seen a lot of activity about graduation recently. What are the (possible) benefits (and disadvantages) of a graduated site?

@TopinFrassi Ssh, I casted the queue to a deque ;-)
@StackExchange Finally...

@Christoph Oh no, we will still continue to star 'lol' :) Some things will never change.

7:18 PM
@skiwi Is a deque a special queue?

double-ended ;-)

@skiwi ClassCastException ?

@200_success I hope that post makes to on top of the newsletter - heck, that it becomes a hot network question so the whole SE can see it!

Perhaps @kleinfreund will review the HTML / CSS portion of the question by @200_success

@kleinfreund a bit late but.... never mind, three others have already posted it

The best part: I went to 200's profile in the meantime and found it xD

Immortalized - I beat a Mug and a Monkey to it ;-)

I'm on my Mac, I blame that fact for being so slow, otherwise it would have been four :)

What see my tired eyes: marquee

7:30 PM
@kleinfreund At least it's not an <marquee> HTML element

Hey, there had to be something to critique ;-)

BTW: First time I see the inline demos.
Nice.

I was trying to work on Cardshifter, my focus got... defocused ;)

btw, @kleinfreund, I'm working some days at a place now where I do HTML, CSS/LESS and JS all day long. Didn't expect that of me, did you? (At least I did not...)

Did you ever do something with LESS?
Yeah, sometimes one finds himself in strange situations.

7:31 PM
@kleinfreund Not until now :)

> Using an old version of Internet Explorer? No celebration for you.

@Mat'sMug Would I be an acceptable substitute for everyone's favorite CM?

@Pops totally!

@skiwi Who cares about Cardshifter when there's Beatshifter / Graduationshifter !?

I imagine some people looking like this right now

7:33 PM
@Pops so we're getting CR t-shirts then? BTW I still haven't received my "never forget 05-16" stuff.

I wanted to let the mods announce it because they were such a big part of getting the site to where it is today, but I'll confirm it eventually.

@kleinfreund I'm trying to learn about the CSS stuff, but it's hard... not many hours go by without me asking someone else about assistance.... I hope I will learn :) LESS seems really handy though, I gotta say. Also using Node.JS to 'compile' the thing with some grunt script (not sure how it all works, it just works!)

@200 Just one quick thing: div.marquee is overqualified. .marquee serves the purpose perfectly fine.

@Mat'sMug I clearly remember you saying that you would accept site graduation instead .... ;-)

I jinxed it!

7:35 PM
@Simon CSS being easy is a widely spread misconception. CSS can get pretty hard pretty fast. Lots of small details you gotta know.
Preprocessors are handy for authoring CSS.
Although one should use 'em with care. Especially newcomers. ;)
I'd love to use build tools (Grunt/Gulp, ...), but due to issues on Windows I don't.

CSS is a hell... ;)

@skiwi Rats!

The 260 path limitation is sheer horror.

@Pops Indeed they are. Many thanks to @Jamal, @rolfl and @200_success! (Just don't forget about the rest of us in your official meta post!)

meh, the community has been a huge, huge factor in the process... don't let the CM's convince you otherwise ;-)

7:36 PM
I had so many problems setting up Gulp.js on Windows that I just gave up for the time.

@kleinfreund Unfortunately(?) I'm using Mac at work. (Very odd for me as a regular Windows user)

What kind of Mac?
Fairly new one?
I worked on my parents iMac during the holidays and it's been a pleasure for the most parts.
Especially when it comes to development.

Ummm.... a Mac...? It's not fairly new, but they did update it to a newer version of iOS on my first day :)

Setting up a dev environment without having to open 20 tabs of stackoverflow questions.

it's a screen and a keyboard basically, not sure where all the hardware is... probably inside the monitor... (can you tell I'm a Mac noob?)

7:39 PM
@kleinfreund I don't need to open them.

Is it one of these Mac that are super flat on the edges?

@rolfl a [pretty much] identical query on sized orders (335K rows) - starts outputting results almost instantly, and outputs 561,667 rows in 4:34. ...and the query plan is pretty much identical.

@skiwi Huh?

@kleinfreund ummm.... perhaps...? :)

@kleinfreund I already have them open!

7:40 PM

Saved to a bookmark folder. Middle click it. Confirm warning. Enjoy 20 new tabs.
Important step when using a new Mac: Open iPhoto and disable its "LET ME INTRODUCE MYSELF" behavior when plugging in SD cards or a camera.
My mum almost ruined all the holiday photos due to this crap software.

^^ THAT +1000

Was able to restore on my laptop.

@SimonAndréForsberg mac noob? I didn't even know you could "middle click" until now!

@kleinfreund How is that even a thing?

@Mat'sMug middle click? you mean the same feature as on Windows? Welcome to the 21st Century, mug :)

7:43 PM
Oh, and the MagicMouse things they have are horrible.
@skiwi Yeah, I was really angry when she showed me all the ruined JPG's.

@SimonAndréForsberg I have left, right buttons, and a wheel in the middle.

But what exactly did it do?

Wait, you don't know about the joy of the mittle click?

oh
like, wheel click?

@kleinfreund Luckily I don't think I have to use iPhoto :) I do use Adobe Flash CC and Adobe Photoshop CC though.

7:44 PM
I have no clue. All images on the SD card were corrupted. First lines fine, rest of the image was grey in the preview.

@Mat'sMug lol. so do I. I'm using middle-click like crazy...

I use Bridge/Photoshop/Indesign. Rarely Illustrator.

@Mat'sMug btw... did you know? You can also scroll that wheel in the middle

wheel click, yeah.
Don't you use that?

yes, yes I know about the wheel. but on Windows we don't call a wheel a button ;)

7:45 PM
Are you hitting links with Ctrl or right click > new tab?

I love the middle click

The fuck...

Just totally forgot what I'm normally using it for...

It's a wheel and a button technically.

oh, that! Right!

7:45 PM
What I am thinking when people talk abut middle clicking...
See that button there right in the middle ^

I thought you had a 3-button mouse

@Mat'sMug the art of multi-tasking :)

TTGH.... bbiab

You are strange then.

You can click it with your middle finger

7:46 PM
Isn't the mouse wheel click mapped to MOUSE3?

It's exactly on the spot where your finger "bends"

Does anyone here know the game Guacamelee! Gold Edition?

@kleinfreund No, I only know Guacemole or something

Yeah. lol. :P
Anyway, that game gets so frickin hard, I'm not able to get to the end. No way.

They read over the lines, and weep at their beauty, then the tears turn bitter as they remember the rest of the files and the inevitable collapse of all that is good and true in the world.

@Mat'sMug That's true.

@Mat'sMug does that mean that we get more swag? in 6-8 weeks months? the Graduation I mean

But if you're trying to speed up an update, have you considered trying to drop the indexes on the target table prior to the update? Then rebuilding them afterwards?

@Malachi I gave up hoping for that box.

@Mat'sMug you moved before it was sent and after you filled it out, did you let Tim know?

nope
@RubberDuck no, but that's good to keep in mind. Especially in a large table like this.

8:37 PM
Sometimes it's a catch 22. You need the indexes to match on, but then you have to update them and that slows it down.
I hate that Query tuning is so much trial and error.....

I need to write unit tests for my VBA logging API tonight... just because I can!
