What sorcery is this in C++...
::Warning(warning);
Would you guys say that my comment here is correct? codereview.stackexchange.com/questions/54722/…
@syb0rg it's not java so I don't know if it's possible but throwing an exception seems indeed better then returning 0
@chillworld No exceptions in C ;)
20:09
but you ARE correct that you have to check it

@chillworld - that system really sucks.
20:25
@rolfl I find it quit a humor finding the algorithm from the first time :)
I'm now at 4.12 : given : 1, result 0. given 33, result 21.
how the hell do I have to see logic in it
if (x == 33) return 21;
@syb0rg then it will give me additional test cases what fails
in stead of just giving them directly

Q: Answers that re-write code with little/no explanation

Stacey AnneI came across this answer today: http://codereview.stackexchange.com/a/10844/46800 It had no explanation or evaluation of the code in question, just a code rewrite. This seems to me to not really achieve the purpose of this SE site in the first place, however it has been upvoted 3 times. Are...

@syb0rg did what you said gives now : given 8, result 7.
20:34
Erm
omg
public static int Puzzle(int i) {
int output = 0;
if(i>7){
output+=7;
}
if(i>14){
output+=14;
}
return output;
}
3 stars
How does that work?
I had another clue with given 10, result 7
if(i>7){
output+=21;
}
Android Zombie down in 33 minutes.
and that was already put in the code by default
20:37
Oh
I'll stop that for today, messed already tomuch with mine head
Hello @user3765490. You'll have to get some reputation before you can talk in chat.
just wanted to say that also @SimonAndréForsberg
20 rep
Comments on my GitHub README? github.com/syb0rg/parcel
so register on CR and you have 101 rep
20:39
@chillworld I started doing some Code Hunt challenges, then I came to the conclusion that it was probably not the site for me... The concept is good though.
@chillworld No, the +100 rep is only given when having > 200 rep on a previous site
@chillworld You have to have over 200 on one site before that happens.
@SimonAndréForsberg I think also not the site for me, but love the challenge of getting 3 stars
@syb0rg ah damn
post a good question CR then :) we'll upvote it
Truth ^
@syb0rg I'd find a quick-start guide helpful, for how to use it. Or perhaps that's crystal clear for experienced C/C++ coders.
Well, code hunt makes me feel stupid...
2
20:42
@rolfl why?
@SimonAndréForsberg Meaning more than the documentation?
@rolfl I think Code Hunt is more stupid than you are.
29 -> 0
3  -> 1
1  -> 4
2  -> 2
I don't get the pattern
what question?
1.06
20:44
@syb0rg I see a list of features and an example of input/output, but I don't see any example code.
^^^ me too
@rolfl actually simple .../x
Okay, thanks for the suggestion. I'll be sure to add one soon.
@rolfl Ironically, that's the exact question where I decided that the site was probably not for me.
@SimonAndréForsberg there are worse (1.10 I had to do long over it)
20:46
@chillworld - sorry, still don't see it.
4/x
4/29 = 0
4/3 = 1
Yeah, OK....
yep 10 is a pain to see
1.07 is not very easy either...
just looked back to mine answers :)
20:49
hmm... wait a minute
@SimonAndréForsberg wtf not easy?
Nevermind. Solved it
Alright, 1.10 now
Hey guys!
20:53
hey @AlexL
1.11 makes no sense to me either.
@SimonAndréForsberg - what's your 1.11 guess?
@rolfl I'm stuck at 1.10
@rolfl they like to (mis)use devisions
Yes. they do.
Any 1.10 clues?
20:55
same as 1.08 just opposite operant and higher constant
@Simon / 3
1.11 'solved', yeah, division
indeed :D
division by three? How's that supposed to help?
see mine post @SimonAndréForsberg
Oh, silly me
I had done x + y / 1000 * 256 earlier to fix some cases, didn't see the y / 3
20:58
I feel better now I know that I'm not the only one having problems seeing code hunt's logic from time to time
@SimonAndréForsberg all 3 stars?
Of course 3 stars!
@SimonAndréForsberg it will change at a time ;)
No more time for this.
1.13 is ... obtuse
modulo of ... + 1
It would probably be easier if one could input x and y values to test
// 0, 1 -- 0
// 29, 33 -- 0
// 33, 34 -- 0
// 0, 34 -- 0
// 32, 32 -- 0
// 1, 1 -- 1
// -96, -62 -- 1
// 98, 35 -- 2
// 97, 34 -- 2
I fail to see the pattern
// x, y -- result
Or well, I see a pattern, but apparently not the pattern
21:07
@SimonAndréForsberg lol same here :)
But ironically, you know the pattern! It's 1.11
and then they give new value what doesn't match your pattern
Right now I have return Math.abs(x - y) / 32; but that's not right obviously. It did gave me some more inputs to work on though
The site is ass-backwards.
lol 5.01 givin me headache. 2 star solution
21:11
It should give the spec, and then ask for a solution.
@SimonAndréForsberg question?
It should not expect you to guess the spec to match the soution provided.
@chillworld As I said, I'm at 1.11
@rolfl How do you mean "give the spec and then ask for a solution"?
I would fire a person who spent their day guessing how to make the results look like the expectations
x/y
the // 32, 32 -- 1 it should be
21:13
I guess this is why the site is created with 'Microsoft Research" at the bottom.
They have these problems, which need the following results. Now, given the results, let's guess what is needed until we somehow match the results.
@rolfl indeed, maybe they look at those guys who do it good to hire
Oh, sorry, there is this additional thing we did not tell you about tha tyour code has to do as well.
and for getting 3 stars you have to be fucked up sometimes :)
Now, a decent programmer will say, what's the problem? Not what is the expected solution....
i.e. what is the problem that needs to be solved.... not what are the resulkts you think you need.
public static String Puzzle(String s) {
int len = s.length();
if (len<4) return "short";
if (len<8) return "average";
if (len<15) return "long";
return "super long";
}
how can I improve that?
oh wait
that was Original solution ofme
lol found it : the code I wrote was 2 stars
the next code is 3 stars :
public static String Puzzle(String s) {
int l = s.length();
if (l>=15) return "super long";
if (l>=8) return "long";
if (l>=4) return "average";
return "short";
}
what's the difference? :p
21:22
@rolfl Ironically, I've had an Android game puzzle idea that's quite similar to this.
@SimonAndréForsberg I hope you do better with the question ^^
What question?
in your android game
Yeah... well... there are several different ways to do it

21:31
indeed and also a lot better then code hunt's way
Yup
Designing the classes and stuff is easy, the UI is gonna be a challenge :)
ha, I have no idea how to start on that
I'm off to bed
cu all
Level 1.14 is weird
		if (x == 1) return 0;
		if (x == 2) return 0;

I don't get it...
Code Hunt makes me feel stupid too
22:10
I'm completely stuck!

Q: A small backup script in Python

Prahlad YeriI work on ubuntu machine and my backup requirements are straightforward. @SimonAndréForsberg Seems like you would be a good candidate for an IBM job, not so much a Microsoft one.
Microsoft, valuing programmers that arrive at solutions through trial-and-error.
@rolfl Well, if this is how it'd be working at Microsoft, I'd much rather work at IBM!
How far have you gotten btw? I won't be able to sleep tonight if I don't manage to solve this damn thing!
(yes, I'm still stuck at level 1.14)
23:07
+180 rep today. Two accepts received. So close to cap but yet so far away
Oh, I quit and did useful things
@rolfl Excellent choice!

Hey Simon, thanks again for looking over my code. Would my code sample be acceptable for a high school student to show an employer?
@Novo Hey there. I just wrote a reply to your comment.
I'm not an employer unfortunately so I don't know.
Ok, guess I can only hope for the best! Also, I didn't quite understand the second part where you said I can improve the if else sequence, can you explain that a little bit?
@Novo You can use the HashMap data structure to "connect" each UnitType with an activity class
@sim
@SimonAndréForsberg and would that all be done in the MainActivity class?
@Novo It can be done more or less anywhere you'd like. But yeah, I think MainActivity would be good for it
@200_success or some Python expert should look at this answer by a new user: codereview.stackexchange.com/questions/51901/…
