wow wow wow, a brand new S4 comes with 184 apps?!
@rolfl What do you think about a linkedlist having a tail node aswell?

these powers are not working =\
oh
wait
haha, they are :D

@skiwi I would do it
add is a common operation, making it O(1) is preferable.

These lovely unicorn animations just make me want to vote for EVERYTHING!
3

Also, JUnit doesn't want to test
might have to do with your methods not being annotated with @Test?
(I don't know how you run them)

@Edward by all means, go ahead, rock your boat!

2:11 PM
@skiwi - you are full of lies... all the @Test annotations are in the Abstract class.
And it works for me ;-)

@Mat'sMug Dang. No unicorn animations for starring a chat messsage. Now I'm all depressed.
10

I could vote for you.

Q: Perl csv file printing?

user3231692I have to assing "$csv->print($f3,\@data);" to output function. A: simple structure that would contain validation errors messages

Mat's MugNaming Class names in C#, whether they're for a static, non-static, internal, public, private, abstract, nested or on-its-own class, should be PascalCase. Find the intruder: public class _Notice public class _Exporter public class _Importer public class _Shipping public class Address Keep ...

^^ Spoiler markdown FTW!

2:20 PM
"Find the intruder", damn I love that.

:)

Hey @Mat'sMug, how's that race to 10K going?

Bartman says: eat my shorts
2

Thanks, I'm not hungry :)

3 days off (still voting though) didn't quite help catch up the initial 500
now you're hitting 10K today? tomorrow?

2:24 PM
Tomorrow probably, today would require a whole bunch of accepts or a big fat bounty

or loads of unicoins ;)

yeah, but mining unicoins isn't that fun so I think I'll pass :)

gotta love unicorns.

After my third pot of coffee, mining unicoins got a lot easier.
9

I prefer waffles

2:26 PM
mug.isEmpty() is returning true, brb

And hats, don't forget the hats!

(you didn't see that)

Coffee just makes me sleep these days.

@Mat'sMug Doesn't that mean that there's still something left in the mug?
too late, did see that :)

that was owner.isCoding()

2:28 PM
oh, right :)

 if(mug.isEmpty() && !(owner.isCoding() || owner.isOnCR())){
     owner.refill(mug);
 }

^^ that

Hey @Malachi - how's the gallery>?

while (owner.isOnCR()) is an infinite loop.
2

not if you include a break;

2:31 PM
^^^ requires an interrupted sleep signal to break from loop

@Morwenn probably yea..

@rolfl I haven't had a chance to install it anywhere yet, but I did download it.

@Morwenn probably yea..

the mug actually reads if (owner.isCoding() && mug.isEmpty()) {mug.fill('coffee');}

Thanks Santa !

2:32 PM
Shouldn't 'coffee' be a default argument?

Shouldn't that be Drink.Coffee? (enum)

I had the day off yesterday, watch the Cartoon Clone wars with my 4 YO son on Netflix

lies @rolfl
"No tests executed. (0,0s)"
hmm

anyway I have to get to work, just wanted to drop in and star some messages.

Testing the file itself did work

Q: Stack Overflow Mug

benni_mac_bA friend got me a stack overflow mug and its amazing - but one thing has always troubled me. Is the code written in a real world language? The code seems like it could be improved slightly. if (owner.isCoding() && mug.isEmpty()){ mug.fill('coffee'); } It appears to me that isCoding and ...

How did 7 tests now already pass without implementation?

Oooooooh....

Are there companies that write unit tests over their unit tests?

@skiwi tests are code, and code must be tested !!1 (I sometimes get too clever when writing tests. When a test fails there is an equal chance that the bug was in the test case instead of the actual code)

@Mat'sMug that's definitely not that easy...
owner.fill(mug, Drink.Coffee)

2:36 PM
owner.fill(mug, Drink.Tea.EarlGrey)

Q: Refactor SQL Script

Antarr ByrdI have this sql script and someone suggested that I convert all the SELECT TOP 1 but did not say how. And the query also seems rather slow. How can I make this query better? DECLARE @batchid INT = 102; WITH CTE_ACTIVENFS AS ( select e.EmployeeId,e.OrganizationId,e.MeasurementStartDate, e.Me...

that warm feeling you get when someone actually learns from what you post
4

@skiwi - did you download JUnit 4.x jar and install it in your classpath?

@amon so wait a minute, there's the project, then there's a test project to test the project, and then there's a test project to test the test project. Who's testing the test project that tests the test project that tests the project?
3

2:39 PM
@Mat'sMug I'm lost.

@Mat'sMug You gotta do something yourself, don't you? :)

@Mat'sMug I'm too meta for my shirt, too meta for my shirt, so meta that it hurts?
7

^^ I want that on a t-shirt!

@Mat'sMug You create a self-testing project. And use formal proofs to prove it works. And then, you test your formal proofs with it.

@Mat'sMug To quote my previous message: “!!1”. I don't actually write tests for my tests, although I should for all those the impromptu test helpers.

2:41 PM
@rolfl Yes, it works if I run a sepcific file tho
@SimonAndréForsberg U mad? (code following)
@Override
public boolean contains(Object o) {
    return iteratorToStream().anyMatch(elem -> elem.equals(o));
}

@Donald.McLean "...so meta that it hurts" (gotta maintain the rhythm).

@JerryCoffin Right. My mistake.

@skiwi Assuming you don't allow null objects in the list, I guess that's fine. Although using the streams API might be considered cheating :)

Oh god, of course I also need to read all the requirements of List
It's all part of Java 8
If they were to remake LinkedList now, I would say they would use it?

So is LinkedList so why don't you just extend that? :)

2:44 PM
Now that would be considered cheating.
:p

Possibly, I have no idea what they would do. If they wanted to, I guess they could make the method a default method and provide the implementation of it

Ohmigosh this unicoins thing

hey @Koveras!

Maximum reputation bonus ^^
There you are @Mat'sMug
but why would they want us doing this? Who's idea was it to get users to click on rocks and what do they gain?
There has to be some devious reason

I think it's a large-scale psychological evaluation of the SE communities.
5

2:48 PM
lol

@Koveras Clicking on rocks makes the unicorns happy. We don't know why.
Perhaps it sounds like hooves on the mountains of their native Unicornia.

Q: What are the reasons for not having an index in Java 8 streams?

skiwiI was wondering about the Java 8 streams (Stream<E>), they have the following methods: forEach(Consumer<? super E> action) forEachOrdered(Consumer<? super E> action) What were the arguments against not supplying the following signature? forEachOrdered(BiConsumer<Integer, ? super E> action) ...

@Koveras It is clearly a ploy by Vim users to eliminate Emacs followers: weakened by weird key combos, the Emacsians will succumb to repetitive strain injury by clicking on the rocks.
3

Does it cheapen your rep though?
I mean some people put that on their resumes
Surely they will reset the rep bonuses after a week or something

@Koveras it's just client-side magic

2:52 PM
gotta love light blue comic sans ms comments.

Wait so what is my rep on your end?

925 on SO.
1503 SE-Wide

Yeah so it's not just client side

sorry, corrected SO rep.

owait
Yeah that sounds right

2:55 PM
would have been too easy huh?

Wait, I spent 90 unicoins on client-side rep increase?! This is an outrage!

loooool

Er hang on I haven' t actually purchased that upgrade on SO yet
Only CR

You should divide the problem into smaller parts and solve each one individually. If you then combine all the small solutions, you have solved the whole problem.

They should award some points or badges for hacking the mining thing... took me 5 minutes over coffee this morning. Of course, it's easy to copy/paste that too :/

2:56 PM
583 according to your SO account and your CR profile

I assume that the adopt-a-tag is client side magic too.

@Flambino If you've hacked the mining, you should just award yourself the points.

@Edward Well, I did award myself a stack of unicoins, but those won't last...
@Edward I was thinking awarding some permanent rep instead :)

Okay now what is my SO rep

@Flambino Silly, of COURSE unicoins will last forever.! I keep mine in an online unicoin bank called Gount Mox. I'm assured it's very secure.

3:00 PM
@Koveras Don't try....

@Koveras 925

Too late
aw

Do the docs specify anything abou twhich constructors a LinkedList is required to have?

So @Vogel612 you're saying I should resist the lure of the unicoins?

@Koveras Yes - you can try...

Q: Progress line in perl

Felix_SimI would like to create a very simple progressbar for my script. So far I've got this, and it works. However, I cannot get it to be a percentage out of 100. My code is the following and it produces basically a dot for every 5 entries in @entries. my $total_entries = @entries; my $count = 0; my $c...

@Edward Oh, sure, unicorns are forever, but the intersection of their universe with ours is fleeting...

@rolfl Do you know if a parallel linked list already exists? I just had the idea of partitioning a list into n parts (keeping track of n heads) and then searching in parallel

why, in god's name is this the same as:
1350 / 1349

I don't get it - the joke or your question

3:08 PM
well it's two xkcd links.
which both obviously show the same image.

Oh

the problem is...
it's two xkcd links...

Hmmm odd

April Fool?

it's meta humor

3:10 PM
quite very meta...
explainxkcd.com gives: "This comic is a April fools comic with crowd sourced content.
It appears that new panels may be generated by Randall in near real time as user suggestions to dialog is submitted."

Maybe my brain is broken, but I've never really seen the humor in these strips

@Vogel612 but title and hover text are different. Also, the '50 comic has a piece of JS below
<script type="text/javascript">
Bernardo.comic({el: $('#comic')})
</script>
(whatever that is supposed to do)

Hmm, appereantly it is not even possible to make a singly linked list that adheres to the List contract in Java...

Last night after struggling with our test deployment for 2 hrs or so, my team sent an email to our manager with the subject "Can't release tomorrow - massive problems." My manager's response was "Too bad."

3:19 PM
so you're all fired now?

I dunno. I'm going to go back to bed.
This problem will probably work itself out somehow.
Er maybe that's what he thought too.
Btw is your first name Jeff?
Nevermind, I didn't realize a vogel was thing.

How the heck did you get the impression I could be named Jeff?

I play too many video games: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeff_Vogel

Nothing to see here, move along
Google Now cards

hehe

3:24 PM
@Malachi is @rolfl in your computer?!

@Mat'sMug lol this is a work computer, not an IBM though........
BTW.Work

LinkedList implementations ain't easy

@Koveras „Vogel“ is just German for “bird”. Now the real question is whether @Vogel612 is a bird, has a bird (real or metaphoric), or is a bird-man

well we already got a fish and a monkey, why not also a bird?
3

Then it's settled

3:26 PM
And kiwis.
2

Honestly though I had never heard that word before outside of a discussion about video games
Wait who's a fish?

Oh heh

@skiwi I'm not planning on making one.

@SimonAndréForsberg I thought you were planning something, with Java 8?

@skiwi Yes that I am, but just because I use Java 8 doesn't mean I'm making LinkedList (thankfully! If it was, I'd abandon Java 8 directly)

@rolfl beat me to it ("show 1 new comment" didn't show up in the flag review queue)
I don't to perl, but the indentation for $count++; looks off, and the three instructions on the same line (at the top) aren't helping readability, not to mention that $count_tens seems to have two meanings as it's being assigned twice with different values; please take a look at our help center to see what this site is all about, I'm sure you have working code that does what it needs to do, that could benefit from a thorough peer review ;) — Mat's Mug 49 secs ago

Your comment is better.
Also, I promised myself that I would figure out the closed w/o comment flag handling... and, your flag got 'disputed' because I had already dismissed the w/o comment flag.
You must have clicked 'invalid' right after I dismissed it.

Q: What questions are suitable for migration to CodeReview, and how does the process work?

@rolfl I don't think that the migration FAQ will serve its intended purpose in the current form. There's a lot of background information about migrations that gets in the way. The checklist needs to be featured, because that's what we want the moderators from other sites to read.

@Override
public void clear() {
    head = tail = null;
}

@skiwi Did you just discover the a = b = c syntax?

5:30 PM
@SimonAndréForsberg No, I am providing a sneak peek of my LinkedList!

Regarding migrations, I don't think our biggest problem is the moderators. I think the biggest problem is users adding comments and then the OP doing a "manual migration" (cross-post)

@200_success - would moving it to the top be enough?

I'm thinking of splitting it into a separate answer.

That makes sense, on the same questioN?

Right.

5:34 PM
I made it community wiki for a reason ;-)

OK then. I'll give it a shot.

I've been productive today ! 90 reputation points so far!

@SimonAndréForsberg - migrations appear to be the source of the most frustration between sites (whether automatic migration, or not). We need to reduce the number of false-positives that come through. This is especially true since most of our migrated questions source from StackOverflow, where the mods like things to 'just work', and handling exceptions in the exception-handling is a PITA.

Nice! Well done!
Hmm we need to catch those...

@200_success - it is probably worth adding the on-topic checklist from our help center in to the migration checklist too.
