Posted an answer, but will update it
Edit finished.

@SimonAndréForsberg You already had my upvote :P

Thanks, thanks.
And I didn't actually even reveal much about the way I'm doing it *cliffhanger* :)

@SimonAndréForsberg I'm interested to see your AI.

The code for it or play against it in action?

Both

4:11 PM
Nice to hear :)
You might be able to play against it later this/next week (always confused by Sundays. Here it is the end of the week, elsewhere it's the beginning...)
@syb0rg I'm not sure if the user wanted to edit his question to provide updated code, or post a follow-up question, or show: "This is what I ended up with, thanks."

@SimonAndréForsberg I pointed him to that awesome meta post ChrisW wrote. He knows what to do now.

Good good.

When Jamal gets here, he needs to take a look at this user:
All of his questions are duplicates.
Like, every single one. He deleted his old account and is reposting the code.

4:51 PM
@SimonAndréForsberg - you keep saying things that have no context .... is there something I am missing? ( Re. A whole new world has opened up for me, basically. ...) Please don't tell me it's C#)

lol, no... for this challenge I am not using C#, that was the Sudoku challenge.
This is even more amazing.
I will be able to show a result soon, hold on...

Been holding on for hours ... ;-)
Should be able to do a bit more.

Actually, I wonder if @Pops will respond about the user posting only duplicate questions...

@rolfl It's actually a certain monkey that has brought this new world to my attention... Thanks a lot monkey!
@syb0rg I doubt Pops checks this room that much now that the invasion is over.
@rolfl and others: zomis.net/ttt/TTTWeb.html

@SimonAndréForsberg That ping could bring him here. Maybe.

So it is a unique string that you can search for?

Because I Say it, it comes up in a different colour backgroiund for me.
Things you say are bolded for you....
So, I can put a MWH line and then know where I last was whcn checking answers.

Ohh, smart.

@rolfl You know which "world" I'm talking about now, that has opened up?

SEDE?

5:04 PM
@rolfl zomis.net/ttt/TTTWeb.html - this look like SEDE to you?

oohhhh....

GWT, my monkey, GWT... :)

Yeah, I've played with GWT before.... GUI's are not really my thing.... but I will have to learn, I guess.

GWT? Not AWT?

It's not my thing either really... especially not these CSS-things and stuff... maybe I'll have to ask @kleinfreund about some stuff. But generally, I'm lovin' it!
@syb0rg GWT = Google Web Toolkit. Basically compiles my Java code to JavaScript.

5:13 PM
Hello everyone.

Hey there, @kleinfreund

Now there must be something behind that name, @rotfp?

Q: Record using getusermedia and convert into a gif

VulpusI am trying to record with get user media then convert it to an animated GIF using a library I found called GIFEncoder. The only problem is that when the frames convert into a frame of the GIF. I tried converting them at the end but that crashes my browser (Chrome 32.0.1700.102). Example - Code: <

5:29 PM
@SimonAndréForsberg Ohhh. That makes sense.
Hello @kleinfreund

Heya @syb0rg
@syb0rg Check out the update to my answer

A: What should our logo and site design look like?

kleinfreundI looked through the major SE sites and their logos and noticed they're quite minimalistic. So I grabbed my sketch blog and a pen. This is what I came up with: Update 1 No more beta-blue Better angles for the breaks, so people actually figure out what the letters may be. :~) Update 2 Ba...

Heya @200

Is 200 swimming again ... ?

@syb0rg Another person doing that, huh? Got any links to the originals?
(Or has it been taken care of somewhere in the seven-odd hours of scrollback?)

@Pops One sec.

I see the two in comments.

5:33 PM
One I couldn't link to because there were no answers to it.
@Pops Here.

How do I answer this facepalm follow-up question?
Thanks 200_success, How can I merge my code above with your solution? I dont want to use shim for now. — user2513846 21 mins ago

@kleinfreund I saw. It looks very nice. 2 update 2s though?

He went from v2 last month to v1 today? Huh.

I thought it was strange too. Maybe attempting to cover his tracks? Idk.

I'm actually not familiar with your community standards on making changes to code. Are you supposed to edit old questions to incorporate changes? At first glance it seems like that could invalidate existing answers (possibly answers telling you to make those exact changes).

5:38 PM
@Pops We actually just had a meta post about this.

Yeah, I just found it.
Didn't expect it to be right up at the top there.
Who do you think you are, making my life easier and such?
3

@Pops We prefer if people either add their code below the original (not overwrite), or if they post a "follow up"-question

@Pops A robot.
:P

Basically I was trying to figure out if the guy was actively trying to work around the system or merely confused. But I suppose it could still go either way.

I'm still confused as to why he deleted his account in the first place. That cost @konijn some rep (our JavaScript guru).

5:43 PM
@syb0rg In theory, we're supposed to have three moderators, all equally capable of handling situations of abuse.

@syb0rg I'm quite sure he's gained back that rep by now though :)

@200_success Yes, but I have rarely seen the other moderators on here.

@konijn has my respect for wading through all that stuff.
@syb0rg My point exactly.

@syb0rg I'm going to see if I can check with the person who handled that situation and see if there's any context I'm missing.

6:01 PM
I don't think my printBoard() method that I made last night is very optimal:
void printBoard(Board board) {
	printf("\n\n");
	printf(" %c | %c | %c || %c | %c | %c || %c | %c | %c\n", board[0][0], board[0][1], board[0][2], board[0][3], board[0][4], board[0][5], board[0][6], board[0][7], board[0][8]);
	printf("---|---|---||---|---|---||---|---|---\n");
	printf(" %c | %c | %c || %c | %c | %c || %c | %c | %c\n", board[1][0], board[1][1], board[1][2], board[1][3], board[1][4], board[1][5], board[1][6], board[1][7], board[1][8]);
	printf("---|---|---||---|---|---||---|---|---\n");
Why did I not use for loops?

Uhm @syb0rg method extraction and loops... seriously....

@rolfl As I said, I made it last night. I'm not sure what I was thinking.

@syb0rg What do you mean by "2 update 2s though"?

Update 2

Based retailcoder's T-Shirt question

CR "Approved" badge

Update 2

Another T-Shirt question based thing

@syb0rg Whenever you're using Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V when programming, something is wrong.

6:06 PM
Unless you're coding SQL or COBOL.

Or HTML or CSS, apparently.

@syb0rg Whoops. ^^

It's fine. It's not like it earned an un-upvote from me or anything.

6:29 PM
Thought about putting a bounty on my question. Noticed it's eligible for it in an hour. So I might ask as well here: Are there situations, where this is not recommended?

@kleinfreund The only situation I can think of is when you don't want to lose the reputation.

What happens if still no one answers?

@kleinfreund You've lost a bunch of reputation. That's it.

That's not my point. The reputation will just go away, right?
I won't get it back, that's okay.

Yes, exactly. That's what I meant. You will not get any reputation back.

6:40 PM
But keep in mind that bounties will usually draw some upvotes on the question itself.

Yup, thought about that..

printBoard() method simplified:
void printBoard(Board board)
{
	printf("\n=============||===========||=============\n");
	for (int i = 0; i < ROWS; i++)
	{
		printf("||");
		for (int j = 0; j < COLS; j++)
		{
			printf(" %c |", board[i][j]);
			if (0 == (j+1) % 3) printf("|");
		}
		if ((i+1) % 3 == 0) printf("\n=============||===========||=============\n");
		else printf("\n-----|---|---||---|---|---||---|---|-----\n");
	}
}
Take that syb0rg-of-the-night!

@syb0rg Code Review is proud of you for improving your own code! :)
Self-Note: When a test suddenly fails, make sure that your refactoring didn't cause a method to be called on the wrong object.

7:03 PM
@syb0rg use {} for 1-liners after if/else..... bad boltset.

@rolfl boltset?

You.... you're a set of bolts.... right?

Oh, I thought you were referring to some obscure coding term.
Lol.

I got it the same way, @syb0rg

@rolfl You don't like that style? The simple-if statement?

7:13 PM
@syb0rg I have seen too many occasions where people shoot themselves in the foot when making maintenance changes.
add a printf to some code, or add a small variable change... whatever, and suddenly things don't work

Q: Better C++ FSM solution?

niloThis question was asked on stack overflow, but they sent me here. I have been looking for a good hierarchical FSM (finite state machine) solution in C++ for a while. I have always been put off by what I have found: Hard to get an overview of the state machine (e.g. switch statement based) Too ...

@rolfl Depending on the length of the statement I add braces. If it is something simple like if (!n) return -1, I think that is okay. And if I went back for maintenance on that, I wouldn't get confused.
@StackExchange Thanks for the wall of code...

@syb0rg - it's a bit of a fuzzy one.... and, with the C-style {} braces it's 4-lines of code instead of 1, but, it is almost always worth it.....
I don't criticise too hard when people do it, but on a number of occasions I've had a good 'told-you-so' moment.

Do the curly open braces need to be on a newline?

C standards suggest they should, Java say they shouldn't.

7:19 PM
What do you personally think?

@kleinfreund They should be, otherwise it somewhat defeats the purpose.
If I was to use them.

"Defeats the purpose" which?

@syb0rg another reason to do is is if you want to put a breakpoint on the printf in a debugger.
2

@kleinfreund Defeats using the braces, for the same reason of having a one-liner not using the braces.

Oh, I'm not talking about leaving them out.

7:20 PM
@rolfl You have a good point there. I can't really counter that one ;)

In CSS your write:

[selector] {
[declaration]
}
(Or you can, you're not restricted in any way)

if (something) dosomething();
if(something) {dosomething();}

But in the above example it's:

[for loop]
{
[statements}
}

^ Pointless braces in my little snippet of an example.

I was asking whether the open brace has to be on it's own line or after the loop/if statement whatever

7:22 PM
@syb0rg I have spent a lot of time working with 'old' code..... 1-liners are a PITA for many reasons..... and another is, in most diff/patch systems, if you can't easily tell if the condition for a block was changed, or the block itself was changed.

@kleinfreund Ohhhhh. I prefer on it's own line, so you can easily tell which brace is the closing brace (if you are using proper indentation, that is).

Just like you have a single-responsibility for classes/methods, so you should have a single-responsibility for each line of code.

It think, CSS and programming isn't comparable here as well. In CSS, everything looks very similar. It's fairly easy to distinct between selector and declarations, if you use proper indentation.
Some people write CSS like this:
[selector]{[declaration][declaration][declaration]}
[selector]{[declaration][declaration]}
This is, I'm sorry, absolute bullshit.

@kleinfreund but people on 1200baud modem will appreciate it ;-)

Have I just missed a holy-wars debate?

7:29 PM
Yep.

No.... It wasn't really a debate... it was some old fart pontificating about why the youth of today ....

WHAT IS WITH THE YOUTH OF TODAY?
(Please note, I'm typing ^^^ while holding Shift down, because I deactivated Caps.)

@kleinfreund They use caps-lock way too much. That's what's wrong.

Humor. Lol.

I almost never do it.

7:31 PM
BUT APPARENTLY IT"S OK TO USE THE SHIFT AS A PINKYREST

Think about it, I installed a piece of software to disable the Caps key.
A shame this is not a build in functionality.

I believe it is built-in on some keyboards

This needs to be build into the OS. <.<
You can even do it on a Mac!

I have a registry flag that disables the eject button on my CD drive, a bios fix that swaps the Ctrl and Fn keys (that is a cool one), and another setting tht turns Caps-Lock in to a tab.

Sounds good. Especially swapping Ctrl and Fn for the retarded keyboards having Fn on the most left side.
This place belongs to Ctrl!

7:44 PM
I do find it strange that CapsLock still has a place on the keyboard.... It must be the most wasted realestate on the machine... A simple concept like double-shifting to enable caps, or some other feature would do a better job, and thn the keyboard ca be adapted to put 'Google' there.

I find it strange, too..
It's just wasted.
Double-shift for Caps would be wasted as well.
Questions should only contain own code, right?
Questions with code from some documentation etc. are not allowed?

@kleinfreund It's preferable if questions also contain an explanation about the code...
@kleinfreund It should be code, yes. And it should be code they've written themselves.

I mean one has to post code he has done himself, not code from others.

Then this seems off-topic:

Q: Good practice using SCSS

ssriI saw a sassy CSS for a rails app like this: $std-margin: 30px; @mixin solid-bg($color: #EEEEEE) { background: none repeat scroll 0 0 $color; } @mixin solid-border($direction, $width: 1px, $color: black) { @if $direction == "" { border: { color: $color ; width: $width; ...

@kleinfreund Correct, CVA.
Where's @lol today?

And what happened to @Malachi?

And where's @Jamal?

And another one:

"I don't really understand what the final rule does, can anyone please explain it if could?"
What is with code where only parts are clearly written by others, because it's stated?

@kleinfreund He's not saying though that it isn't his code. Theoretically, he could have put it together himself without really understanding it.

@Simon Which makes it impossible for him to say whether he post's working code or not.
Is this a difference?

8:02 PM
It feels sometimes like programming is a puzzle where you have to put pieces of code together to make something awesome.
It's almost impossible to code without taking parts of code that were written by others.
@kleinfreund I think it's better to not judge than to judge too much. When in doubt use C4 let it be, I think.

Okay, I understand.
Can I somehow revoke my vote?

@kleinfreund See also this meta question
Yes, click close again and click "Retract close vote"

Oh, the orange button couldn't be more obvious, I guess. :p

Quote by @lol.upvote: Do we need to be the "code ownership police" and hunt down liars? I don't think so.

@kleinfreund I missed a day, I was so close to Fanatic, I am just not fanatical enough

8:06 PM
@Malachi That's sad. Sorry for that. :/
But hello anyways. :)

I had something like 87 days or something

I'm at 81 at SO.

I am going to try to add some things to the one page before the game starts

@Malachi So because of that you're so depressed that you don't hang out in our lovely chat room and lighten our day by starring our messages?
4

@SimonAndréForsberg I am spending time with family, and playing video games, and working on a website now...

8:07 PM
Won't be able to get the 100 here. :(

@Malachi Good choice!

@kleinfreund I put an app on my new tablet. hopefully that will help me....lol

I've been coding all weekend, and I've just played another game against my AI and it ended in a draw.

I will be on Mallorca for a week.

@kleinfreund something wrong with your site, it seems to be in German??? ..... JK

8:09 PM
Maybe that's on purpose?
Maybe I am from Germany? :D

Oh, crap! Now I'm out of stars.
3

I am hoping that you get 20 stars per chat room.

I... released it yesterday. Officially. ^^
You get 20 per chat. rooms combined.

@kleinfreund that kind of sucks. but makes sense.

I feel you. ;)

8:11 PM
like you get 40 votes per stack

yup.
not per tag. :D

okay going to work on a website

Someone just stole me 50 rep.. jk

i think I am going to throw some tags in and then put backgrounds on my text

What are you even talking about?

8:12 PM
I am going to post my code for review @kleinfreund do you work with PHP?

Not really, but don't mind including it. I can focus on the HTML/CSS stuff.
Also I'm going to watch Tatort in a few minutes.
When I'm back, I want to see a good answer to my bounty question xD
Later, guys.
Turns out... I have another 30 minutes...

And it also turns out... I still have no stars.
This is not really a refactoring I expected to be doing, but I just removed an interface.

Sorry, I'm still catching up with flags. It looks like the "A ... - V1" user isn't too happy now.

Q: Review Structure of PHP/HTML

MalachiI am very new to PHP, I kind of sort of want to create the pages like I would in ASP.NET, it's just the way I am wired. I have been inserting the header/menu using a PHP Include and here is what the code looks like for just the first page. am I doing this properly, or is there a better way? i...

Wait a second... we're at 94% answered?!?

@Jamal Yup, @kleinfreund noticed that earlier today.

NewAI vs. V1: 845 wins, 24 draws, 131 losses (86,58 %)
NewAI vs. V2: 738 wins, 62 draws, 200 losses (78,68 %)
NewAI vs. V3: 736 wins, 48 draws, 216 losses (77,31 %)
Seems like my latest AI is doing well against the older ones. But unfortunately, fighting against AIs is not the same as fighting against humans.

94%? Awesome!!

There you are!

Hello @Corbin

hello
how's it going?

@Corbin Me against my TTT Ultimate AI: 2 - 2. That's how it is going.

Thank you, everything is alright. Going to watch "Tatort" now. Have a nice evening/day/whatever
Not a damn good AI so far, huh? ...jk^^

8:46 PM
TTT?
You too, kleinfreund.

TTT => TicTacToe

Ha, I got you there AI!

Ahhh

It needs drastic improvement in order to be any challenge against a human.

Out of ammo. I noticed we already have an entry! That's so cool!

8:52 PM
Not a complete entry, but it's a start :)

If I posted my code now, I'd have similar functionality (although mine is already ultimate)
We have 3 hot network questions!

@SimonAndréForsberg: Looks like actual Scala people answered that FizzBuzz question. :-)

9:08 PM
@Jamal Yeah I noticed, it suddenly became even more neat!

Oh, they're gone.. stupid phone..

Here's my TTT-Ultimate so far, now with some AIs: zomis.net/ttt/TTTWeb.html

At least I still got some cheddar. :-) I think it became Hot, too.

Now I will go to bed, gotta work tomorrow. Feel free to play my TTT-implementation. Let me know how the AIs are doing :) Also added a simple load/save feature with replays, will add actual replays later (with buttons to go back/forward) just because.... well... I'm me...

I got up at 2 PM today...

9:12 PM
I got up at 9:30 or something, started coding directly. Never used GWT before until today.
First day I'm using GWT, definitely not the last...
Anyways, night it was. Night it is...

I've received an email from Tim Post not too long ago. I've been talking to him about voting, and he has given me new information.

9:46 PM
@Jamal and?

* 6 10K users is great and not a problem
* We need our 500 users to reach 1K (or more)
* We need our 250 users to reach 500 (or more)

Can you share any of it?
Hmm we're graduated by Easter!

That's mostly what he told me. He also found it weird that many 500 users seemed to have stopped contributing.

I think any 500 user that participates in the code-challenge can get to 1000 in no time

Whatever works (as long as it's legitimate). :-) We just need to start showing the lower-rep users more love.

10:24 PM
I can't update the answers feed now, but it's a good tool to see what these users are contributing (between all of rolfl's and konjin's answers)

Speaking of unanswered questions, how did we get to 94% all of a sudden? Did konijn kill more JS zombies overnight?

IDK but he sure has contributed to that!

I hope we're not too close to the rim, otherwise we may be back at 93% again.

I expect it to go back and forth 93/94, as it did with 92/93 - it'll stabilize at 99% anyway :)

10:40 PM
Perhaps there are more old off-topic questions out there that have slipped through. If so, I can close them right away.

10:53 PM
Good morning!

Rolfl's "rep race" query is good to monitor one's progression too; I wonder if it could be tweaked to aggregate users by rep range...
Hey James!
