00:00 - 19:0019:00 - 00:00

7:01 PM
I was in Sweden once. The next "big thing" was Gøteborg if I recall correctly. We were in around a town called Växjö.

@kleinfreund Yup, Göteborg is pretty close to where I live, in Uddevalla.
@kleinfreund I've been in Germany many times, most recently around new year's in a small village called Altenheim (yes, I know what that name means :P) close to Offenburg, close to the French border and the French city of Strasbourg. :)

Sweden was nice. The landscapes for example. ;)

My brother used to live in Växjö btw :)
And don't forget the girls! :)

Wow, I never knew there is a town called Altenheim. Funny.
I guess there are a lot of these names.
I live in a town called Adorf. Losely translated one could say "a village" with a being the letter "A".
Oh, I can't remember. They say the girls are nice up there. But it was a good amount of years ago.

I saw a funny video about the German language earlier today:

7:07 PM
They have a science museum in Växjo. I remember them having a cool Lego Technic mars rover in the foyer. I was so into Lego back then.

Then you should also visit Legoland in Copenhagen, Denmark :)

Oh yes, that is a good one. I like how some German words are used in other languages. Schadenfreude for example. Or Kindergarten.
I was there. Bilund.
I'm not really a theme park guy, but dude, that is Lego! Lego is the shit.
4

@kleinfreund I was kind of looking for more discussion on the issue. sorry it is taking me so long to reply

Schadenfreude? Gotta say I don't know that word.

@Malachi No hurry. I'd love to have some more discussion about that as well. And also on my question xD
Schadenfreude is when you laugh about the harm of others.

7:10 PM
Very off-topic question incoming.

Brace yourselves!

Yes, take your time, StackExchange...

Is there a way I get notified upon updates of another question? Starring it maybe?

@kleinfreund "skadeglädje" you mean :) (Swedish word) Yeah, makes sense... Schaden = "Skada" / Damage. Freude = Happiness.

@kleinfreund sadly, only rss feeds or external programs

7:13 PM
@amon Thank you. :) No problem. Just wanted to automate. :D

@kleinfreund pull a @Malachi on it (that's star) and you'll see it in your favorites. You won't exactly be notified, but you'll have easy access to it

@SimonAndréForsberg I really like Skandinavian languages. Especially the names. :)

@kleinfreund I have to say I'm not a very big fan of the German language, but I have learned to understand it quite well.

@SimonAndréForsberg Yeah, that would do. But since I only have one question on Code Review and Malachi posted a link to his meta question to the comments I already have this. :p

@kleinfreund But then you are missing out on so many other interesting questions :)

7:15 PM
I feel you. Sure, I'm used to it, but I don't have any preference for it. It could be worse.
Why am I missing out on other questions? :o

StackExchange is such a troll...

:D
Just noticed I still can't downvote here. ^^
SOON.

7:19 PM
@kleinfreund Because there's plenty of interesting and horrifying code samples around here.
@kleinfreund Just start answering some questions and hang around in the chat and you'll skyrocket in reputation

Oh I do browser the questions. I just asked my first one yesterday, so it's okay I only have one. :p

A: Is there a faster way to compare if 2 images are the same?

Jesse C. SlicerAs per my comments, some using usage (and try..finally usage, incorporating Guffa's answer): private Bitmap image1; private Bitmap image2; public Form1() { this.InitializeComponent(); } private void button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { using (var openDialog = new OpenFileDialog...

A: Is there a faster way to compare if 2 images are the same?

Dan LyonsOne thing I have done in the past is to convert the images to 64-bit encoded strings and just string compare. It won't be as fast as using pointers, naturally. However, it can be done entirely in managed code, it doesn't require you to know bits per pixel, and it works for the Image base class....

A: What is the best to select a javascript object property at any depth?

konijnFrom a once over: getProperty is a clumsy name, how about getProperty. receiving a string is functionally the same as an array with 1 entry, so you could map = (typeof map === 'string') ? [map] : map; There is no need for the underscores for i and len, also, I would rather see length than len ...

Hallo!

Welcome! You're new to CR?

I am.

7:20 PM
@kleinfreund: Looks like you have sufficient rep now!

Had me "debut" yesterday.
@Jamal Guessed it. :p

@kleinfreund You're gonna love it :)

I already do. Solving some questions on SO is the one thing, CR is a whole new story.
3
I'm currently working on my personal website for the final project in our Webdesign class. Now I want to improve some things in my HTML/CSS. That's why I started using CR.

@kleinfreund Just remember to vote on anything and everything you see around here!

@kleinfreund I must say, that site looks quite proper. Have you considered using flexbox so that the footer is always at the bottom of the screen? Otherwise, if you've got too little content, there'll be that ugly space below.

7:29 PM
I try to up/downvote if it's appropriate. I know this doesn't only help the users and the author but also the site itself.

@lol.upvote Is it possible to get information from the data explorer to see which people vote the most? Hmm... nevermind, that's even possible here on the site!
@kleinfreund That is correct!

@amon I have sticky footer on my to do list and using flexbox as progressive enhancements seems just like the way to go. You're right. I will look after that.

@kleinfreund CR has been in public beta for ~3 years. Seen this?

Q: Call of Duty - We're on a mission

lol.upvoteThis is a direct reply to Grace Note's recent CR review, more precisely the following part: (emphasis mine) Unanswered Tying in to all of the above is one of the most pressing concerns about the site I had in my own review, which is the gigantic pool of unanswered questions. There are, ...

@SimonAndréForsberg ?!
Votes are anonymous in SEDE

@lol.upvote Nevermind. (removed)

@lol.upvote I check that out asap. Didn't see it.

7:35 PM
@lol.upvote I didn't want to know who voted for what, I wanted to know who vote overall. Especially I'd like to know how much chat users vote compared to non-chat users :)

@SimonAndréForsberg exactly. the UserId is wiped from most Votes records. Bounties can still be tracked, but votes can't, so you can't know who's voting - you can know how CR is voting, but can't break it down by user or even by reputation range.

@lol.upvote This is a bummer. I'll check the tags I can participate in on the weekend and help answering and voting where I can. (Mostly being HTML, CSS, ... stuff)

We also had a couple events until late December, in all likelihood that's coming back soon. It helped generate lots of votes, too. And made reviewers post their own code to be reviewed :)

@SimonAndréForsberg it's a favorite star. not a chat star...

@Malachi A star is a star is a star is a star :)

7:47 PM
Ugh. I'm out of stars. ^^ TS

@SimonAndréForsberg A* is an algorithm. We're not on Philosophy ;-)

@amon looks like a bad name for a pointer to algorithm-ignorant me

@amon A pretty nice algorithm as well, one might add :)
Almost 10 years since I implemented my first A*, I wonder if there's been any improvement in pathfinding algorithms since then?

Played CoD recently?

That moment when you push your files to GitHub and notice you still have the rule in the their that basically hides all the content to test the sticky footer. xD

7:51 PM
@lol.upvote Nope, never in fact. Unless you call CR'ing as playing CoD of course.

You even linked to a meta question with the title "Call of Duty [...]" about CR unanswered question issues!

@kleinfreund time for git commit -amend -C HEAD? (saw that on a coworker's post-it notes today, I think it can be useful for you)

@SimonAndréForsberg I don't know what pathfinding algo they're using, but the baddies are surely smarter than the Pac-Man ghosts.

Wait a second, let me google that. I started using GitHub a few weeks ago and I'm using the GUI.

@lol.upvote Even monkeys are smarter than Pac-Man ghosts.

7:54 PM
Sucks to be a Pac-Man ghost then
@kleinfreund the CoD post is a must-read if you're going to be hangin' in the 2nd Monitor; too many memes emerged from that!

upvoted and starred already.

@lol.upvote Especially since one of the answers in it actually contains the memes :)

There is a lot of "military slang" there. :D

Out of ammo.

Okay, votes are our ammo.

konijnI am guessing that the '.volume' elements are like volume indicators, the louder the sound, the more you show. @lol.upvote Probably, many users got to 10K in < 100 days: that's 100 rep/day on average.

8:16 PM
@ChrisW and 100 rep/day is average? I think it's < 0.5% but have no data to back it up..

I mean, probably many (not most) users averaged 100/day

I guess you're right.

@lol.upvote Am I seeing a data explorer query in our future?

that would be a tough one. You'd have to work user rep backwards!
If I make that query, I'm certainly seeing a CR question in the same future, that query is bound to get ugly! @SimonAndréForsberg

@lol.upvote I can imagine :)

Tried to answer some unanswered questions. Let's see how this whole Call of Duty stories works out. ;)

8:45 PM
@kleinfreund I skipped your edit suggestion. Editing OP's code is generally a no-no on CR, even broken indentation can be part of a review :)

Oh, good to know. Thank you.

and then you have @SimonAndréForsberg approving them...

@lol.upvote I figured that the question was specific enough to approve the edit suggestion this time.
But I think whether or not I approve or reject depends a lot on my mood actually.

Still would have been better off as a comment though, especially that minor.

But you're absolutely right. The intendation, syntax behavior, etc., etc. is a whole new story here as well, too.

8:49 PM
@kleinfreund Many times those things are a part of the review.

@SimonAndréForsberg 200 ended up approving it anyway

I keep that in mind if my dirty SO fingers want to get this nasty intendation right. :p

@lol.upvote: If there are indentation issues resulting from tabs (such as when you see a lonesome closing curly brace outside the code block), I do fix it. Style, even if it differs from mine, I do not change.

@Jamal fair enough

8:51 PM
Plus the code here is more likely to be somewhat more structured as opposed to the things one sees on SO on a regular basis.

True. Rarely would you see ALL the code unformatted here.

@kleinfreund Hah, that's what you think! There is a reason for why people come here, you know... ;)
@Jamal Well that's true, at least people here seem to know the basics of SE formatting

Just another reason why I prefer to be here. Walls of text and unformatted code dumps annoy me.

"Keeping track of people's relationships in MySQL using a people relation table?" and I immediately think of all that NSA-nonsense and how they probably know what we all have done "last summer" and the summer before that one and so on.

^^ TS

8:55 PM
@Jamal That's what I mean. Sometimes, I think they do it on purpose. "Let's have some tabs here" and "Let's write all the properties on the same line"

(that's theoretical star, since I'm out of real ones)

There is a star cap? :D

@konijn sure is raising the dead around here. 19 Revival badges!

Nah, eveything is alright here.

@kleinfreund You learn our memes fast, that's good :)

Things move quickly, better get behind today then tomorrow. Awkwardly enough I have school tomorrow. We have an open day at our school.
Pupils are doing "demo" lessons and stuff. I signed up for the Webdesign one. Gonna bring my laptop and work on my site ._.

Well actually, speaking in internet time and therefor week being like a century, it is. :D

Considering how tired I am, I say it's time to disconnect from CR for now! Hope to ask a question here this weekend, I've got at least three code bunches to choose from

@SimonAndréForsberg It's guessing based on your tags. It's guessing your tags based on previous answers. Probably it's a tag-match for [optimization[. You could personalize the query with a specific list of tags; or perhaps change the algorithm by making it look at tags which you are explicitly "following".

@kleinfreund There's usually not very much activity here on the weekends. People aren't working then so apparently they don't have much time to visit CR (Don't ask me how that works out...)
