@quid I find this really really interesting. google.com/…
Also this, a highly respected publication in the science community.

The format of the links is a bit inconvenient.

@quid Ahh, so sorry. The last one might be easy-peasy for you, and since you like Trump's "sincerity????", you might like the literally sincere, honest, factual counter points.

@amWhy it's not clear what you try to achieve. Somehow you seem to feel an urge to get even and cannot let go. That's something Trump does a lot. ;-)
But if you like you can post all day critical pieces against Trump here.
I'll likely even read them.
The point is that I do not have a problem with critical opinions about Trump per se.

@quid I couldn't figure out what you were trying to achieve in the Cafe. Somehow you seemed to feel an urge to get even and could not let go. Or else you were nothing more than a troll. That's something Trump does a lot. ;-)

The form of some is odd and counter productive, but that also does not upset me in any particular way.
@amWhy I was trying to set a counter-point to a one-sided conversation.
That this upsets you so much might be considered as indicative of you lacking critical distance to the subject at hand.

1:03 AM
@quid But you never offered statistics or factual data.

@amWhy really? I offered mortality rates.

@quid Stop trolling, @quid. It's rather sad.

That fly in the face of claims that Trump killed 200 thousand people.
It's just a misguided way to put it.

@quid I had no problem with the discussion about Covid stats across the world.

@amWhy alright. But you had a problem with an interview with a Democratic Congress woman.

1:05 AM
@quid Just as your links to editorials were delusional and miguided.

@amWhy I'm not sure how they were delusional.

You want me to find Republicans who vocally objected to Trump??

@amWhy no I know plenty.

@quid okay, I'll stick with misguided.

Contrary to what you think I follow this in some detail since years and in a relatively diversified way.

1:07 AM
Just please stop acting like some self-appointed "devil's advocate"... in reeks of insincerity, and it approximates trolling.

It's not really a "devil's advocate" but maybe that's a detail.
I find a certain form of discourse about politics problematic, and I saw it in that room, so I chimed in to counter act it.
I don't like Trump. But I also don't like certain ways how he is opposed.

@quid As I said, you are smug if you think none of us hasn't followed the same you claim to know. And here's a deal: You can pontificate on who should be a US leader, and praise and criticize all you want in how you perceive American politics, when you share your citizenship, and allow users like me to inform you about your leaders, and in your countries of citizenship. Else you strike me as awfully arrogant.

@amWhy I did not pontificate on who should be the US leader. I joined an exchange. I find it odd that you think this exchange ought to be reserved to US citizens.
You are welcome to join an exchange about politics I might start.
I do see the issue to some extent and acknowledge it in what I intended to be a playful way:
in Cafe and Tavern on the math.se, 10 hours ago, by quid
'Everybody' is a in a way concerned about the US and opines something; somehow the flip-side of American exceptionalism.

@quid You won't start such a conversation about the politics in you nations of citizenship, because you choose to remain elusive, going to extraordinary lengths everywhere on SE about who you are, where you teach, where you live. That's your choice, and I have no problem with that. But your failure to reciprocate due to that fact, in terms of your desire to tell everyone what you know about their countries, but remaining silent about yours, leaves your input open to questions.

@amWhy I do not understand the objection.

1:19 AM
E.g., from what context and political history (from which countries) might influence your opining about other systems?

I have mentioned repeatedly that I am in "Western" Europe.

@quid I am really tired of your evasiveness, dodging questions, and replying only with "I don't understand why you object."

For a general categorizations that's more or less sufficient.

@quid But you are not native to "Western Europe".

@amWhy actually I am.

1:24 AM
@quid I am not here to pry. I am not faulting you for your desire for privacy. My only point is, e.g., if someone off the street walks into a math conference, and begins to regularly critique others presenting their work, without having an affiliation, such a person will not be well received, and for a good reason.

@amWhy I don't think that's quite analogous. Also I'd contest it. If the objections are relevant.

That's fine, @quid. I guess I remember incongruent discussions with you about that, but I never asked to confirm it. I have never wanted to transgress your desire for privacy. I'm sorry that I misunderstood. I know you are well educated in many realms, and do not mean to suggest you don't know what you're talking about. I'm sorry if I came across that way.
Second to last comment: "week" was supposed to be "work" :'(

@amWhy maybe the work was week. ;-)

To be honest, @quid. I do not like it when you and I butt heads. I feel safe disagreeing with you, and you with me. But in general, I do not like conflict.
@quid ;D

Work week? Like the five days you are supposed to be working?

1:34 AM
@amWhy yes. Same here. :-)

@XanderHenderson ;P

Well I do like a little arguing, but I don't want to actually upset you.
Then I think you also like a little arguing.

@quid Well I DON'T like arguing. Knock it off, before I have to come over there and kick yer @$$!
Ooops.
That's the one I meant. :)

@quid Yes... that's true. :-)
@XanderHenderson That had me laughing out loud!!

@amWhy No it didn't.

1:43 AM
@XanderHenderson ;P

To all moderators in this room right now: I flagged two identical answers to two separate posts that showed up in LQ review queue, both stating

"I'm working on the exact same problem as you. I think I have the same Indian math magazine as you. Do you want to discuss through email? Mine is jssmith12342@gmail.com"
No urgency here ... I guess I don't like such behavior >:{

@amWhy thank I deleted them. It's clearly inappropriate, but like an honest misconception about how things should work here.

@quid I agree; no malicious intent here. Thanks!
Oh that's weird: every once in a while when I type a comment, it is repeated immediately below, but in green type, then after I get a "error: retry, edit, delete. No big deal, just trying to alter my emoticon to >:}

2:04 AM
I think that's a connection issue but not sure.

@quid momWhy has declared it bedtime for you! I'll follow in three hours after eating a late dinner, and finishing up some work! Take care, and see you!

Ugh... okay. Me go sleep now.

@amWhy you are right! Good night!

@XanderHenderson: I checked that Monty python video. It was really hilarious. Is this some kind of comedy series?

@ParamanandSingh Oh, my.
Monty Python is a comedy troupe from the 70s and 80s.
There is a television series consisting of skits (including the one linked above), called Monty Python's Flying Circus.
There are also several movies: Monty Python's Holy Grail, Life of Brian, and The Meaning of Life.
I suggest you google "Dead Parrot sketch".

@XanderHenderson I like spam spam spam! Asaf used to regularly link Monty Python skits in some of his comments ;D (guess the topic of the meta thread in which he commented with the Spam link ;D)

2:45 PM
@amWhy Dat one is gud, 2.
Teaching time. :\

3:21 PM
Thanks @XanderHenderson for all that info on Monty python. Will watch that stuff in spare time. Enjoy your teaching for now.
@amWhy: that info on Monty was not spam. But you can argue that it is :) :)

@ParamanandSingh ;P

7 hours later…
10:48 PM
Done @amWhy

@quid Gracias!

I'll leave now, I need to finish some unrelated stuff. See you!
Sorry forgot to ping @amWhy

@quid See ya!
