the votes give people feedback on how their answers are being received that they can act on or not
the votes that count happen when the election proper starts - votes on the questionnaire mean no more than votes on any other meta post so far as election mechanics are concerned
It looks like a nice set of candidates already. If we do end up with more than 10 then my voting in the second stage will be easy - everyone so far gets an upvote :D
How does the actual election work once all the nominating stuff is done? Do we just vote for a single candidate or do we vote for our preferred two (seeing as there are two spots)? Or is the voting more complicated than that?
@adaliabooks In the election phase you get three ordered votes. It's a preference ballot; your vote is for your first-choice candidate until that person is eliminated, then transfers to the second, then to the third. (The implementation is a little more complicated, but that's the idea.) If there are more than 10 candidates there'll be a primary first where the voting is different. @MonicaCellio thanks for pinging me about the questionnaire. I had a somewhat busy week which made me prioritize work over filling out a questionnaire which I could fill out still at the end of the week. Mentioned it over at the Factory Floor but oughta mentioned it here as well. Either way I'm now in the process of starting to answer it, not sure I'll have my answer ready today tho :)
@dot_Sp0T understood, and it was just meant as a ping not a nag. People have 8 days to vote once the election starts on Monday, so if you don't answer until tomorrow that's still plenty of time for people to see and consider.
Theres a dedicated core of users who basically only have an account so they can downvote and close other's matierial. When you end up on the top 5 users list for the stack they follow you around like fleas trying to cut you back down to size. They dont contribute much content and prefer to harass others on semantics rather than actually contribute. It gets frustrating.
@Hosch250 I don't think that it's too relevant; nobody involved in that chat is a part of the election so far. At any rate, I've looked into the mod-only voting info for the relevant users, and the data refutes all of the claims made there.
That's fine. It's just that targeted voting accusations are rarely accurate; users can't tell who's actually downvoting them. But we have a tendency to see patterns when they aren't there - I think it's similar to apophenia, if I'm using the term correctly.
Speaking of which . . . what to do about users who seem to just post tons and tons of answers on tons of questions that get like +2 each and rise quickly, but not really good content?
@FoxElemental I don't know what to do here, but I found I just had to ignore people like that on other sites, because we can't do anything as long as they keep within the guidelines.
@Hosch250 In this case I would more suspect a conflict between a high-ranking content-poster and a high-ranking community-moderator. Those types will often interact with one another, which leads to more chances for misunderstandings/disagreements. But obviously something like that should be flagged for moderator attention so that they can have a look at it.
@FoxElemental Nothing. As long as they are sticking to the guidelines and keeping conversations civil there isn't really any basis to do something. If they start posting stuff that gets deleted as low-quality and downvoted regularly the system automatically intervenes with question/answer bans.
@Hosch250 Do you know that the comment was mod-flagged? What I meant was: if you feel that someone is targeting you and after speaking to them you feel that they harass you then you should flag your own post for moderator attention, explain your problem and ask them to investigate.
